My card has twice been fraudulently used as a result of being skimmed at petrol stations. Once in North London and once in Bristol.
I have never been tricked or conned/ convinced to provide my details by a scammer.
I have also never been mugged (thankfully).
Therefore 100% of my experiences of fraud would have been avoided if I didn't use my card in those petrol stations.
... As I have said I choose to use my card. But to deny those issues exists just because it isn't your personal experience helps no one.
Anyway, as I said I just think people should have the choice to spend their hard earned cash without using a bank if they choose to. It is a matter of choice that I think is important.

Again, I'm not denying those risks exist - this is turning in to a bit of strawman... the point I was making was the exact opposite - that Inee was effectively denying risk existed, purely because he didn't use his card - that is simply not correct and was the point of my posts. For every person "skimmed" at a petrol station, there is another OAP passing over an envelope of cash following someone knocking on the door from company "xyz". The point is risk exists with both. And in fact mugging is far more of a threat with cash than a card - so on balance, you could argue card is safer - especially when factoring in "no-fault" fraud via card usually results in you getting your money back; very few examples of getting your physical cash back!

Anyway, as I said I just think people should have the choice to spend their hard earned cash without using a bank if they choose to. It is a matter of choice that I think is important. Don't you think it's getting to the point where using cash just isn't viable, cost effective or secure enough any more? The vast majority of people pay with cards now, virtually all the time, including purchases at the Mem. This wasn't something forced on them by the club. They were doing it anyway. Do you wish to see all ticket booths have a cash till, trained cash handling staff, and cashing up at the end of the day for an ever declining group of people who cannot or will not catch up? And for how long will you keep those facilities? As long as there is at least one fan left with his twenty pound note? And should all the food outlets and club shop also keep every cash till because of a very small minority insisting on doing it their way? I imagine we had similar arguments, in somewhat different language, when we introduced money as a more convenient alternative to bartering two sheep in exchange for five sacks of wheat. This cashless change has virtually already happened, and it's been chosen and adopted by ordinary people because it's just a better system. The fundamental reason that places are going cashless is because so few people use use the stuff nowadays that it's an expensive pain in the arse to provide cash tills for the few.

It's purely the lack of any choice that concerns me...
Just you wait - as soon as you are unable to pay with cash anywhere banks will find a way to ensure you have to pay to access your cash (a monthly bank subscription or just a fee for each transaction). They will dress it up as you merely paying a fee for the service they provide.
... But we'll be forced to accept it as the norm as there will be no alternative.
Once there is no alternative banks and shops will be sure to monetise it.

Can we not just give out IOU’s and write a cheque at the end of the season……? 🤔🤗

When I read the headline I thought Higgs was back. I know this was in jest but NH deserves some credit (not cash) for doing due diligence and selling to Wael. We could have a far worse owner!

Most people can use contactless technology. There’s still some who struggle with it. It’s baffling for those of us on an Internet forum how something so simple can be such a battle. However these people are out there. There are also people who can understand it, and use it, but prefer not to. Many because they don’t trust it, don’t feel they can budget properly with it (especially at this time!!!), some because of tax / legal concerns. For me if I could Apple Pay everywhere in the stadium or even use my season ticket card to make payment then I’ll celebrate that progress. However, I’m concerned there are many that will see this as a backward step that represents a kick in the Mitre Deltas. Amazes me the lack of empathy on this matter. Would people celebrate bank branches, post offices being closed in this manner? Priceless.

I would imagine there's lack of empathy as it's such a simple and trivial matter. It's basic and straightforward, and if you've not got a bank account, and deal in 'cash only', as you want to 'play the system', then that's your fault, no one else's. My old man is as luddite as they come, but at 78 years old, even he knows how contactless payments work. Play the system my arse, i prefer cash, yes you have to take it out the bank but from then on what i buy is known only to me n the person i bought from, cashless just another way of monitering individuals. Besides with cash i know where i am and can budget accordingly , its much easier for me to have a pocketfull of money as once my pockets empty i know im skint, whereas with a cared you can go over easily then get charged. Cards are easy to scam, hence why banks have bought in the pain in the arse authentication, with cash the only way you cann get scammed is if yer mugged I will only accept this as an argument from someone who doesn't have a mobile phone.

Appreciate that you want a choice. Are you prepared to pay more when using cash? So a 50:50 ticket is £1 for card, would you pay £1.20 to pay by cash? Or would you want the club to lose vital profit for your choice?

Is that really how much it costs for every ticket sold, to break even against tap to pay? scdave how are the prizes to be paid out? It used to be in cash. Will these now be bacs payments?

I think that by that point it was sell or go bust and he was lucky Wael came along. I met Higgs twice didn’t like him either time he came across as arrogant and pig headed but it was only two short moments in his overall time as the owner of our club so I generally rate him on his time as our owner rather than those two moments. Which was pretty Dam awful.

It is run by the FC now, not the SC, so best ask Dave Bright. Good question though. I doubt if anyone at the club have thought of that, but I would guess it has to be electronic payment.
