Good point about getting rid of Starnes and Wriddington, who replaced the seemingly equally poor Hamer, as any previous Rovers manager shook the whole club up and, seemingly, set it heading in the right direction on and off the pitch? Possibly only Gerry Francis Mk1 did something similar but Mk2 was a total disaster. I think Holloway & Penrice did for a brief period tbf Although all went to sh*t after the f*ck up season at the turn of the Millennium.

If they had done then perhaps we would have signed a decent replacement for Mauge rather than let Dunford bring in a couple of average young loan players, just think where we could have been if we'd brought the equivalent to EA!

They did sign Mark Walters and The Latvian. They were two 'Marquee' signings I suppose. But yeah not replacing Mauge in hindsight was the turning point as well as Cureton & Roberts goals drying up completely in the last 10 games

I had so much sympathy for The Latvian. Came here on the premise that he'd be playing the equivalent of Championship Football within a few months, I'd imagine with the hope of possibly even plying his trade in the Premier League within a short while to further his career. However the most capped International at that time ended up slumming it in the basement within just over a year. He captained Latvia at Euro 2004. Bless him 🙂

I expect the contract will include clauses to cover all eventualities. Wael isn't stupid. Unlike a few, who for whatever reason decided to criticise Joey from day one, and have been proved to be totally wrong; Wael recognises and appreciates the asset he has in Joey, and rewarded him while protecting his interest. Joey knows what he is doing, he told us the team he inherited were not good enough, and he has since rebuilt the team who not only won promotion, but also did so playing an exciting brand of football, the like which we have not seen before at the MEM. Joey sells tickets, the MEM is rocking, we will not miss any supporters who unfortunately feel they are unable to watch, or get behind what Joey is doing at the football club.  Let's just hope he isn't convicted of beating his wife up then. Do you think those who have reservations about Barton are mistaken, misguided, paranoid, or just too fussy about personal standards? Unlike you, I can't just forget about the accusation unless he's found not guilty or the case is dismissed. All this stuff about him being a legend could look very unfortunate in a few months. And no, I don't want him to be guilty or sacked. I want him to be innocent and retained.

Each to their own but for me, in any situation an accusation remains exactly that UNTIL someone is found guilty by the courts. It’s a more than unsavoury episode, but we can’t live in a world where merely being accused of something equates to guilt without trial or judgement via the appropriate processes. That being said he could well be found guilty in a few months time and I’d have still witnessed one of the greatest seasons in our entire history. On the flip side, he could be cleared not guilty/case thrown out & anyone staying away purely because of Joey Barton would’ve missed one of greatest seasons in our entire history.

There are countless pages of anti-Barton rhetoric plus the moral minority who chose to say away. It has been said time and time again that if he is guilty the majority will want him out and the club will absolutely do this. I chose not not to prejudge JB as I was not there and I will wait until the case has been heard and the verdict given.
