Joey Barton has been rewarded for steering Bristol Rovers to a sensational promotion from League Two with a bumper new contract. Barton - with one year left on his current deal - has today signed a three-year extension agreement, taking him into 2026. He was appointed as manager of Rovers on 22nd February 2021, with the club in a relegation battle. Unfortunately, he could not prevent the Gas from dropping into League Two. However, the club bounced back in his first full season in charge, finishing third and gaining automatic promotion back to League One with a stunning 7-0 win on the season's final day. On his new deal, Barton said: "I am delighted to sign a new deal at Bristol Rovers. The journey we have been on and the support I have received from the owner Wael Al-Qadi, the CEO Tom Gorringe and the relationship we've built with the Gasheads, these are all massive factors in me signing on for another four years." Owner Wael Al-Qadi said: "I am extremely pleased Joe has decided to continue to lead the club forward. I am really excited to see him building this squad of talented and committed players. I wish him all the very best and this new deal hopefully shows him just how important he is to my vision for Bristol Rovers football club." Prior to managing Rovers, Barton was in charge at Fleetwood Town between 2018 and 2021. www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2022/july/barton-signs-until-2026-010722/

That’s a lot of staying away for some folk . Just a bit of paper at the end of the day to protect 'an investment' like any player He won't be here for 4 years, because he will either be sacked or off to a bigger/better club well before we get to 2026

Fantastic news, it's refreshing to see us tying down players and management that we want to keep on long contracts. To me the biggest part of this is he must have assurances regarding the progression of the club, he doesn't strike me as a person that would settle for anything less than 100%.

Christ, didn't see that coming.
Potentially a very expensive pay-off if anything goes tits-up!
Certainly no sign of that tbf, but I always worry whenever I see any club giving a manager a bumper contract. That said, based on the evidence thus far, we hopefully have nothing to fear and means we should be due a LOT of compensation if any other clubs come crawling (which in turn should put them off).
Will no doubt give player recruitment a slight boost too, as they'll see he's definitely in it for the long haul.
Perhaps an indication that the CPS charges have been dropped too...?

Wonder if he will now relocate his family to Bristol. Liverpool is a long way away and we don’t want him to do a Coughlan.

Motivation and Inspiring Video. We are on route to the Championship.
“When I took over in 2021 we were 91st out of 92 in the form table.”
“We are now number one in form table. Better than Man City, better than Liverpool.”
What a turnaround.
This is a ground breaking manager helping us all believe in better.
It’s been a long long wait to have this level of ambition at our football club.
The executive coach is ready to ride again.

Delighted with this. No doubt about the commitment from Wael, TG and Joey. Joey yet again talks about our great fanbase, we all need to get on board with them and who knows where we might be by 2026. UTG!
