Mine was a friendly v Tottenham at Eastville around 1981/1982? I would have been about 7 and think it must have been arranged as part of Gary Mabbutt’s transfer. Played at Eastville not long after in a schools six a side competition that took place immediately before a game versus Wigan. It was organised by Canon who were the leagues sponsors at the time. Even though it wasn’t a huge crowd it was a nice insight and started my dreams of being a footballer (never made it like most schoolboy dreamers!). I was lucky to be a mascot versus Darlington in the first season at Twerton. In those days you were in the changing room listening to team talks etc, took part in the warm up (knocked a ball about with Penrice and Tanner and took a penalty v Timmy Carter I think it was), sat on the bench with Bobby Gould, Roy Dolling and the two subs. School mates were well jealous!! Wasn't that match played for the centenary celebrations so possibly 1983? You will probably be right - I just assumed the Mabbutt connection years later. I remember being disappointed when the likes of Hoddle were not playing. They had a young fella called David Leeworthy who scored 3 or 4 and I thought he’d go on to be a superstar but saw his name a few years later playing for Farnborough in the Conference.

Started watching in 1953 - which is why I think of our first four matches this season being against non-league clubs. I wonder if others think of the sides in the same division as Rovers when they started watching as still in the same place. Must admit that I have got used to Liverpool no longer being on the same level as us!

First game I remember going to was Jan 2nd 1978, home to Cardiff. We won 3-2. Sat in the North Stand, 11 year old me slightly bemused at a bloke shouting sheep sh@ggers all game.
One of the main reasons I can place the game was it was the same date as the first episode being aired of Blake's 7. I was a bit sci-fi nut and was looking forward to watching it but a promise from my dad of a half time pie swung it.
I do though have a very vague recollection of going down Trashton with my dad to watch Rovers before this. Looking at the fixtures on 11v11.com this could well have been the Anglo Scottish cup game at the start of that season. Didn't enjoy it much, mainly due to the crowds and being hit in the face with the ball lol

I wish I could say I remember exactly which match but it would have been December 1967, finally got dad to take me to a game as a birthday present - I was 9. Remember being so excited and loved every minute of being with my dad and his older brother my uncle John. Lasted until dad passed away in 2017. R.I.P both.

I started being dragged along to Rovers in the late 80's (I was born in 1980), but I hated it. My memories of that era was that it seemed to take an age to drive there and then a fairly long walk to the pub (and the Panda Pop and Scampi Fries didn't make up for the thick smoke you used to have to endure inside pubs). Then I could never see anything at the ground - and if I did, I didn't really know what was going on (nothing has changed there ). When we played City away it was a lot more convenient. I remember being jealous of how lucky they were that their club was based in Bristol. The first game I can actually distinctly remember was Liverpool(h) in 1991. But by that time I was a lot more interested in watching football (and so a lot more grateful to my Dad for taking me!)

Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forum, hope i'm doing it right??
My first game was a 2-2 draw vs Aldershot sept 10th 1988 at Twerton Park. I had been persuaded to come and watch rovers by my workmates (thankfully, there were more gas than the other mob!!). I'd been told that Gary Penrice was the main man so was a bit disappointed when he limped off early in the first half, then we went 2-0 down before halftime. Luckily it was Big Dev to the rescue in the second half getting both goals - and that was it...hooked forever!!!
