Thank you for highlighting the fact there is still so much work to do. Sadly - We still have sexists and racists at our club. Umm… you’re welcome? Lol

Strange it takes a long trip for anyone critical to sing and implicate themselves, in other words, what a place for her knockers to be exposed ...?

Is fairness to all but one Barnsley fan who thinks its ok to bring up JB on their forum to divert the topic they all seem to be disgusted about it, just the one idiot, obviously the ones in the ground let them down

Quiet Tilly, the men folk are discussing what’s offensive to women. You have no place in this discussion! Typical post of no use. Yawn. It was offensive to many people, regardless of gender. As this thread shows. What I've not seen yet is that the chant was sexist and derogatory of women. That would include the women of Barnsley and Yorkshire. You'd think therefore that it would be condemned locally.

That would include the women of Barnsley and Yorkshire. You'd think therefore that it would be condemned locally. It’s more a notion of chivalry, of defending the honour and respectability of the person in question, than derogatory. It’s actually quite an old fashioned concept playing out in a modern context. I’d say it falls more under “rude” than anything. There’s also a meta narrative that male spaces, where men can express their boldness and sometimes crassness, are a bad thing, and these should be modified in order to make them appealing to all. This is a representation of that. Whether one accepts that male oriented spaces are a de facto bad thing is another matter of debate, but I hope this provides some kind of analysis of whats going on with this and why it’s such a clash of ideas. Personally I wouldn’t sing it, but I’m neither wringing my hands and horrified.

Not sure of the percentages but I’d hazard a guess at least 25% of your average football crowd is female . Also if you’re prepared to turn a blind eye ( not wringing your hands) you’re not helping to stamp it out . Racism was often (and still is rarely) heard but it was called out , often on forums first as unacceptable ( it’s easier to do than face to face for obvs reasons) . It’s now been ( rightly) seen as totally unacceptable.

I wonder if any Rovers fans at the game used the special text number to report the abuse immediately? If so, you would have expected Barnsley to take immediate action.

Many on their forum condemning their fellow Tykes, yet a handful more using our employment of JB to make themselves feel a little better about the whole sh**show.

If we're serious about this, I guess it would be a good idea to store the number in our phones, so that it is to hand if needed. 07834 521283 is the Her Game Too number to phone or text.

Thankyou because I didn’t know the number. Is there also an Alert number that the Gas have, like Barnsley have alluded to for there supporters reading there club statement. I have to be honest, I hope never to use either and upto now haven’t really had any reason too. Although the Brighton game that we were rightly fined for did raise a few eyebrows around me and me included a few seasons ago. That would have led to a few calls texts I’m sure, and potentially saved the club a few quid for showing that we have a robust process in place. That’s if we all knew what the numbers were. I caveat that with I would not ever want to spoil anyones enjoyment of the game and get involved with a sing a long, voice opinions about the normal good hearted banter with our opponents. Provided it does not cross the line, and something that would not even think about shouting in the street on a normal day.

Off topic and nothing personal but it's been bugging me for a while....first rule of Latin club is get it right. Second rule is only use Latin where it provides a more apt or concise alternative to the English. De facto ("as a matter of fact") is properly used in contrast to de jure ("as a matter of law"). I think you meant "inherently", so best sticking with that. Not criticising your point of view but if someone drops Latin incorrectly and gratuitously it comes off pompous and pretentious. Which I'm sure you will agree is something best left to me.
