For those that are interested Thompson's injury is confirmed as a double leg break. The good news is that the breaks are "non weight bearing", whatever that means, and should be back before Christmas and not as bad as first thought. Wishing the lad all the very best and a speedy recovery

If the Collins incident was on VAR would it have been given? Not doing anything that Vardy wouldn't do. I have lost count of the number of times I've thought 'stay on your feet' especially when he's through on goal People suggest decisions may go against us due to Barton - consciously or subconsciously - I wonder if the refs have a list of certain players to keep an eye on Pretty sure VAR wouldn’t have given it, especially not this season. I really hope not anyway. If they are given players would be doing the same thing non stop. We know he goes down easy, so like you say I’m guessing the refs would too. They probably have a forum just like us Can you imagine a refs forum 😁. Probably is in some format but clubs, players, managers are not named in threads

Serious question. How did you lot veiw Barton when he was manager of Fleetwood? How did you veiw his initial engagement, were you pleased or concerned? Have you noticed any change in your playing style? On Saturdays game I wouldn't have said Rovers were any more physical than any other side. In fact I thought Portsmouth were more physical if anything with their pressing game and we were pleased to see our players winning the ball so often. Also I don't think we were bullied at any time which is a change from over the last few seasons. I don't have any preconceived intentions in my questions, just interested in your veiws. Thank you for your interest. Personally as a player JB used to annoy the hell out of me but based on his Fleetwood record i thought he was a good appointment based on football reasons. Of course he came with baggage so i took the trouble to buy his autobiography and by the end of it i had a much better understanding of what made JB. For what it's worth it's a good read, not your usual football auto, and i would reccomend it. Not all fans were happy , a few still aren't but JB has proved to be an excellent football coach, thinks deeply about the game and other topics, has harnessed a great team spirit and has transformed the club on and off the field. except for a tiny few, fans are right behind him . He gets abuse where ever we go and has shown admirable restraint in dealing with it so far and has never let our club down. This abuse is fuelled by local rags who delight in championing the popular profile of JB which fans like yours are only to happy to latch on to, you seem prepared to find out the facts before jumping on the bandwagon and would probably enjoy the book.

Thank you for your interesting reply. I asked this question as I was interested how Rovers supporters felt at the time of his appointment. You are right that the press do stoke things up a bit and, as you point out, that includes our local paper. They seem to print anything that will sell papers. They are playing on the fact that there is no love lost between Barton and Portsmouth Football Club from past encounters. He was sent off for head butting a Pompey player and after another game received a long ban. He was caught on camera elbowing a Pompey player which caused a bad injury to him but not picked up on the day. I think he has let himself slip a little by saying how Rovers will finish higher than Portsmouth and that the system they play will get them nowhere. He somehow managed to to make an analogy with music by saying Rovers music will be a hit with Pompey's music sliding down the charts. He could be right,of course, and Bristol Rovers will do better than Portsmouth. That will remain to be seen but his comments can hardly be said to be seen as diplomatic. There again Cowley comes out with some baffling comments quite often. I would like to point out that Barton's words were spoken by him on a recorded interview. On the evidence of the game on Saturday I wouldn't have thought that Rovers were overly physical. In fact I thought that Portsmouth were the more physical of the two sides and we were pleased to see how often we won the ball off of Rovers players. Although Rovers were largely defending they did play some nice football at times and if they get the players they need Barton's prophecy may not seem so far fetched.

He has had mixed results with his previous prophecies 1. We won't go down - false 2. We will get promoted - true
