It has been reported a growing number of football fans are just not interested in their local teams. What the hell is going on?

All the Premiership exposure on TV has given them false expectations.

The media forcing the Premiership down everyone’s throats, the BBC who have stopped reporting football scores on a Saturday after the games. It is like mid Championship and bellow doesn’t exist. Struggling to get my youngest into Rovers, he keeps telling me he supports City, much to his brothers and fathers disgust.

Give him 20 lashes and send down the coal mine for a 14 hour shift , that should teach him right from wrong 😱 Oh while you’re at it send that fecking ref from yesterday with him!

With the number of people of all ages in Bristol wearing Liverpool shirts you would think we’re part of Merseyside.

I’m at the point of disowning him, he actually asked me to take him to Ashton Gate last week, I’ve lied to him (bad Dad) he’s coming to The Mem Saturday thinking he’s going to see them 🤣 If that doesn’t work I’ve failed as a Dad……

I wouldn’t say this is news. This has been going on a long time. While the premiership has made it worse it was always the way. I grew up in Trowbridge and most of my friends were Liverpool/Man Utd/Spurs fans etc. in the late 70s/early 80s.

It does make me cringe, seeing people I know who I grow up with do all this Facebook banter about Man U and Liverpool, knowing full well they’ve never been there.
It’s like those teenage girls who think they’re in a relationship with a pop star because they once signed them an autograph and they’ve joined their fan club.

I live in Bournemouth
You’d think what with their Prem flirtings all the lads in my boys U14 team would be in red and black stripes….
But no!! Last training session I counted 5 PSG tops, 3 Chelsea, 3 Liverpool and 2 Spurs.
One lad had a cherries top on
And there was this one lad with a glorious black and green BRFC away kit on running rings around them all.

I’ve always supported Rovers because of my dad, but only moved to Bristol when I was 11. All I saw were away games. If I supported my local club growing up, I would have been a Blackpool fan.

TBF, a sweeping statement. If you are an armchair supporter and never buy a shirt or a ticket, and rely on sky sports news or MOTD then fair enough. IMO you are entitled to be a living room supporter regardless of where you live.
It’s the real fans and not plastic supporters that will always support their local club, regardless of it being, Rovers, City, Hallen Hengrove, Manor Farm.
My perspective, if you move out of your local area and still support your team like many Gasheads on this forum that are spread across the globe then that’s real support

It’s the years of my life spent in bedminster that made me a gas head! The proliferation of Paris st German shirts these days just proves the global/marketing nature of big boy football these days. I take my three kids (12,8 and 5) to the mem and I explain to them that people are queuing around the block at the food banks while some other fella earns six hundred thousand pounds a week and it makes no sense, I also suggest that supporting a team of the telly shows a distinct lack of imagination!
