Means nothing - no chance Joey is going to Stoke (or that they'd want him) Let's hope that whoever does get the Stoke job is good mates with Joey and also prioritises bringing in a new central defender (so we can have our Conor back <3 )

him and Wael have a very good relationship, Wael backs him 100% and said last season when JB said he would resign if he wants him to, Wael said we could lose a 100 games but he won't want him to go, it would be one hell of a kick in the teeth if he left now, I can't see him leaving anytime soon. Me neither But in the hugely unlikely event that a Premier League or Championship club came sniffing, I would be massively surprised if he didn't grab the opportunity with both hands. He is ambitious and wants to get to the top as a manager. You're very naïve if you think that ambition is restricted to just with Rovers (even with all his "Premier League before City" talk). In fact; he is on record saying he would love to go back to Marseille and manage one day. He's even given his latest kid a French name Yeah OK I can see your point

Don't worry lads, plenty of options Stoke will approach before they'd consider Barton

JB has signed a 4 year contract with us and he has already said he wants to be here and get us into the Championship. If they want him we'll that's their problem This is the sort of thing that all sorts of players/managers say.. and then leave as soon as a club offers them a deal higher up the pyramid. I'm definitely not saying he is going to Stoke - but in the unlikely event that they actually came in for him, I would be very surprised if he didn't go! You are not a fan of Joey then ?

If a Championship club were to be interested in JB, I can't imagine them giving him the autonomy which he enjoys at Rovers.

Of course he’d be interested, I know I would. Contracts for anyone in football aren’t worth the paper they are written on.
His contract will
1) compensate us if he goes. 2) takes the pressure of him for instant success.
Problem is I’d be stuck on who to get in if he did go.

The better he does for us the more likely someone bigger and better will take a chance on him.
The only saving grace for us is that he isn't everyone's cup of tea

That fact that he is not out of contract for the foreseeable, just means the other club will have to negotiate a compensation package. Stoke or anybody else. My understanding is that if it’s 2 3 or. 4 years is almost irrelevant. If he has 6 months or next to nothing left, than clearly nothing payable as the player / manager walks. A manager did that recently didn’t they, walked away and into a new role virtually the next day. I can’t remember who it was, must have dreamt it.

I’ve remembered Rob Edwards FGR to Watford. I remember the Dale Vince interview.
I thought I was losing my mind for a minute

Well I guess we will have to just hope they all think he is a lady garden then. Someone will take a chance on him, Fleetwood did, Wael did. He hasnt relocated despite signing a long term deal. He will leave sooner rather than later if he continues to improve us.

I can't see JB going anywhere soon, the fact he has the majority of the fan base on side will be a major factor to him staying plus he would see as an insult to us fans if he left JB might be a lot things but I think loyalty is high on his list. Whilst he's not everyone's cup of tea and some will be happy to see him leave, I've always been a fan of JB and I'm happy to see him here he's a no nonsense straight talking manager which is just what Rovers need.

If he got us to the Championship no doubt a bigger club would come knocking. Would he take it though? Probably, but he has said it's not about the money - he doesn't need it.

Exclusives Reports now saying Stoke City are willing to pay whatever it takes to get one of their top two managerial targets, Chris Wilder / Joey Barton.

I would have thought DC would have been the better and most obvious choice for Stoke

Stoke have been given permission to speak to Sunderland manager Alex Neil.

Also we wont only lose Joey but we would surely lose all the backroom staff that he has brought in which would be a massive upheaval

Sean dyche will be a good fit for them Lol I said that on the other thread! Maybe wishful thinking on our behalf because we don't want disruption at this stage and many are excited to see where Barton can take us, but Dyche would be their kind of manager I reckon.

Funny how 2 years ago many couldn't wait to see the back of JB. Now we're hoping someone else takes the Stoke job so he stays.
