Joey has to take the blame for poor Hoole. He is not a CB and definitely not a left sided one. Leave him as cover for Gibbons at RB and stop trying to make the CB happen. Rest up lads. Good month, much better than we all expected and I can see 4 wins coming in Nov. UTG

Like Kilgour, you’ll still be saying he’s young and promising at 26! The lads been outmuscled & bullied all day, his decision making shocking from the off. Also a fan of lofty since day dot (unlike most) not to mention the other legends you mention😄 As I say, Barton has learned plenty about his squad today. Hooles not 26🤣, so it's not quite the same! His career could still go either way. He's an under 21 international. Exactly my point, still be saying the same in 5 years time. Give me a Gibson loan over academy ‘prospect’ anyday.

The defence had a shocker. First goal - Woeful pass by Gibbons, Hoole then takes himself out the game by attempting a challenge instead of holding position. Both equally culpable. Second goal - No marking whatsoever. Free header, unchallenged tap in. Not sure which players lost their men. Third goal - Hoole again attempts to win the ball and fails instead of staying in position, allowing their striker an opportunity to get his shot in. Fourth goal- Poor, unnecessary ball by Hoole to Thomas, who then decided to try and play his way out instead of clearing the ball up field. Got robbed, 4-1. Mistakes from Gibbons, Hoole and Thomas cost us the goals but Gordan was equally poor and both him and Finley played us in to trouble more than once. Bad day at the office, too many players didn't perform and we got what we deserved. Connolly for Hoole and Sinclair for McCormick next week, assuming all the injured players are still out. Next week is Rochdale, that seems an ideal game to give the likes of Hoole, hopefully in his favoured position of RB, and McComick more game time, I wouldn't be surprised if 'boro ask us not to cup tie Coburn.

Would you really like the club to scrap the Academy so any local lad's only choice in the future is to play for City's Academy, once they do join them are they, and their parents, really going to stay Rovers supporters or join the dark side? Hoole had no critics last season when he was playing at RB not he's doing the team a favour by playing out of position, he should apparently be shown the door.

Championship strike force against a league two defense.
Not a criticism, just an observation.

Tbf speaking from a parent point of view who’s son played for 7 years with Rovers Acadamy, it really isn’t the boys fault. They are picked up at 7 or 8 or even 15, so the scouts must see some ability in these boys. They are then handed over to if I’m honest very poor coaching and facilities. His mate joined our friends cross the river at the same time and they are exactly the same, very poor coaching but fantastic facilities. It’s proved it to me if you have some sort of talent ignore acadamy football. They are both playing for different teams at 16 years old in the Toolstation western league first team mens football and are smashing it. These boys Alfie and co, who I’ve watched before getting pro deals, are good players. They unfortunately have been let down by the standard of there development both by Rovers and City. That’s why we are a million miles away from producing proper players. Even Joe has said it’s pointless without an u23, because they just don’t get mens football. Just my opinion but at 16 playing the Mens game at a really good level, must be better than sat in the bench until you are 20 something if you get that far.

Evans, rossiter, Hoole and Gordan were absolutely dreadful and we can’t carry 4 players But ta put in context - All four have been major contributors to our recent great form.

Poor old TC … got really roughed up Can't think of any positives to take from his performance. Showed why Joey thought he wasn't good enough.

Problem is only many 16 year olds playing Toolstation level football ever make a career out of the game, compared to Academy players waiting for their chance? I don't follow City at all but I thought their academy was producing first team squad players. Perhaps if JB stays around in the medium to long term things will improve with the Academy

Remember please...whilst its apparent Luca isnt the best for centreback ...He was the only choice as Connelly wasnt ready for 100 minutes yet. Also he is not purposely doing things badly lets not bully him . Just recognise ,centreback is something he isnt good enough or strong enough to do currently. I'm not bullying him, at Right Back I rate him very highly. But he aint a Centre Back. I apologise, i was replying to your writing but was talking in general terms to all of us (myself included). Sorry, didnt intend to infer you were bullying.

Back to Leicester a while ago. Hope those getting trains back to Bristol have made some progress - sounded like a nightmare with delays from a tree on the line.
Anyway, great support from the off but those early goals were a gut punch, especially as looked so avoidable. I’ve skimmed through the thread and a few harsh comments. We didn’t give up (although why we were playing it back and sideways with 5 mins left and 2 down I really don’t know). I think if we’d made it 4-3 earlier in the half then I really felt a Rochdale-esque comeback was on. The ref didn’t help but the better side won. We missed Loft and the bench wasn’t as strong as it has been and after two hard battles against Plymouth and Wednesday we did look knackered (remember Derby had an extra day rest from midweek and hadn’t had to travel twice in 4 days).
At least we’ve got this tricky trip out of the way now and have some home games against arguably weaker opposition, plus a chance to rotate a bit in the cup.
Finally, I’d forgotten how overpriced Frankie and Bennies was for what it is!
