If we're the Gas then new badge should be Johnny Fart Pants surely. The kid in me always giggles when i hear that name. One of the bodyshop guys we use has that as a nickname and he is actually quite fond of it, luckily, as he is a big old unit. Still laughing as i type, somethings i guess i never grow out of

We should have a gasometer on our badge instead of the pirate a bit like Everton's lockup.

Both Pirates is historical and I have no recollection of reference to the Gas when I went to Eastville in the 70's, it's a much more modern day thing and thanks to the Darkside for giving it to us! Think the Gas nickname came about 1980 …… happy to be corrected if anyone else remembers it earlier or later ? I remember it being said by the teds, at school but nothing like now. It was much more niche in those days, god.. i feel even older when i look back to those golden days, the 82 having 3 successive relegations and going bust. As a school kid no one really mentioned the nasty connotations of how it affected the larger community. I do have a radio Bristol interview, with Geoff Merrick and he was the first to tell the whole and tawdry tale of how players were intimidated, physically as well as mentally. I will have to take the HD out and search it out. The whole and fictional story of 8 “heroes” ripping up their contracts, in some kind of altruistic act was put to bed with that. It made for some harrowing listening. I don’t blame SL is now looking to pull away from the club because, as he says, he is 70 now and wishes to pursue other things plus, if you have ever read their forum, personally i have not done so in a good while but the posters really give him stick and many want him gone. Make you wonder if there is a brain cell amongst them given that he has been the difference to them being, at all. Just goes to show that even billionaires can have enough. I know it’s more of a hobby for him but he had started by saying he was looking for outside investment and ideas, to then saying that if the right offer comes along, he would consider selling up.

Club Statement. Over the past few weeks, Bristol Rovers has been actively engaging with supporters on a possible new crest to positively represent the club moving forward.
It was felt that, after 25 years of the current logo, it could be time to modernise it. The existing option is also not particularly versatile and poses problems when it comes to applying to merchandise or using it through online channels. Finally, it was felt that the current pirate was more representative of an Admiral and the direction of the sword often leaves the crest off-centre.
The plan for this process has always been to be open and honest and to try and find a solution that all supporters could get behind.
To date, this process has involved three surveys to canvass opinions from all supporters on whether you would be open to change and what changes you would like to see.
The first allowed initial feedback to be shared on all aspects of the crest; this resulted in a strong resistance to a circular template-style crest and had a small majority of supporters that were open to change. As there was a majority, it was decided that the process would continue to see if a consensus could be gained.
The follow-up survey took the predominant themes that were mentioned in the initial surveys and gave some examples to further fuel conversation and input across three areas - shape, imagery and font. Again, there were clear preferences for one option in each category, with a majority of supporters in favour of each choice.
The third survey then pulled together the selected options into an initial concept crest, with a view to garnering further feedback to work towards a position where we could create a final crest through more in-depth focus groups.
However, within this final survey, for the first time, it was clear that the current route wasn’t the right path to go down. We have therefore taken the decision to halt the process and we will continue with the existing logo.
Since the release of this survey, we have been inundated with responses from supporters who have designed their own concepts and shared their own feedback. Thanks to all of those that have taken the time to develop these concepts and should any of these gain traction in the future, the club can re-open the process.
Thanks to all supporters for your continued support and cooperation.

We should have a gasometer on our badge instead of the pirate a bit like Everton's lockup. That was done, in the mid to late 90’s. I remember it as it was a great time for the creative types and we seemed to have a fair few, who were making regular but limited runs of various things.

Some things are just best left alone and although i would like to see the pirate a bit more realistic i think this is the best decision. Credit where credit is due

If two nicknames are good enough for West Brom, The Throstles & The Baggies, then why can't we have two. Throstles ? Well I’ve never ever heard that before and I thought I was pretty good on football teams nicknames ! Everyday is a Skool day 😀👍 Throstle is an old name for the bird called a thrush. Apparently that name was adopted because a large number of the birds took residence at the ground, one even sitting on the crossbar during a game which led to the name being adopted.

Posters keep suggesting the pirate is more marketable but when did the club last market anything with just the pirate theme? They sell the cross swords clothing range but they are produced by an external local clothes suppliers. I'd imagine most youngsters want something with the "Gas" shown on it rather than a pirate.

Bristol Rovers football club are the pirates.
The Gas...or gasheads is a (at first derogatory) nickname given to the fans.
The football club are not "the gas" the fans are.
Therefore, the club badge should have nothing to do with "gas" .
The club are "the pirates" the fans are not "the pirates"
Pretty straightforward really.
The pirate being another name for a sea rover. The quarters on the shirt ,from "no quarter given " a term often used by pirates.
