Not sure if I heard it right but did Alfie say in his interview that Mansfield have a bigger fan base or a big fan base? Ha! I thought the same.. but I think he actually just says "big uhh fanbase" which unfortunately does sound like "bigger fanbase". I'll certainly give him the benefit of the doubt as a Gashead

I just don't think some people appreciate what damages injuries cause to someones career. I think Alfie has had at least three pretty serious injuries, that would have ended careers in the 60/70s. Luckily medical and rehabilitation advances mean players get a chance now, but it still takes a lot out of a player. Wayne Jones could have been one of our best ever players, as could Jamie Shore, but if they tried to seriously play again, they would have been mere shadows of their former selves. Once you lose that one yard of pace, have a mili seconds hesitation, you go from a top pro to average. No doubt Alfie is still a hundreds times better footballer than the individuals who are saying he is not good enough! And I bet Alfie is a much better human being as well. And he is probably a better Gashead. He will be back to watch games at the Mem and will see the Gas away if they play near Mansfield and he doesn't have a game. Ignore the ignorant, best of luck Alf. Well Barton obviously feels he wouldn't improve one of the worst defences in the league. If he was good enough he would have played more. I guess thats why he's dropped to L2 and not found another L1 side.Apparently there were League One sides interested in him, but we didn't want to sell him to a rival club without significant compensation. www.bristolworld.com/sport/football/bristol-rovers/joey-barton-reveals-the-reason-why-alfie-kilgour-had-to-leave-bristol-rovers-3985498" Kilgour did receive interest from League One clubs, but given they would be selling directly to a rival, Rovers did not want to strengthen their team, without receiving a fee to compensate them for that. As a result, Kilgour has had to drop down a division, but is likely to play regularly. He added: “We felt that it wouldn’t be right to let him go into League One without a significant fee, the teams that were interested in him didn’t want to do that. Thankfully for us the sides in League Two could give us the compensation we were looking for.”"

Thanks for that Sleepy. The people that think he wasnt capable of playing at league 1 seem to have missed that he has excelled in this division before, and would have been a great addition to a league 1 side that isnt looking to play out of the back. We have seen there are quite a few of those.

I dont think he is good enough to have us challenging at the top end though but he isnt the only one. Barton sees him every day in training and for whatever reason felt he was better somewhere else. He hasnt got much wrong to be fair

In this case, the undisclosed fee may not be a lot, but at least we are not boosting a rival - not for this season at least.

Fair play to Alfie for making the move. He could have waited till the summer and moved to a L1 club.

Good luck Alfie - hope you do well at Mansfield. I am not sure the decision is all about ability - JB seems hell bent on moving on all the players he inherited - only 2 left I believe. That's his managerial prerogative of course, but he now has no excuses. Its now his players and his coaching team. He has been backed well by the owner. I will be more than happy to give him the credit when we get promotion - equally he has to take responsibility if we fall short.

Bit harsh - we paid decent money for McCormick who was already here (albeit on loan) and he seems to love Josh Grant. I cant remember Alfies name being mentioned when gasheads plastered their preferred starting XI on here and social media. Sent off twice this season and given a penalty away in small amount of games

Hope Kilgour gets some time and pushes on for the rest of the season. He's one that will get a good reception if he ever plays at the mem again.

In his latest presser he was having a swipe at Garner again There is potential in Zain, it's just not going to be at this club “Ben Garner signed him and hopefully we can get as many of them out of the building as possible because not one of them has been productive in my tenure.”

Bit sad really. Fizzled out with us and I honestly believed he was going to be more than the real deal. Made some mistakes and we didn’t get him through it. I hope he gets full form and develops into a cracking player, even elsewhere.

Really sad to see Alfie go, definitely good enough, had rotten luck with injuries, that have absolutely stopped him from showing his best form. Needed a good run of games to find his form but was never going to get that now. Frustrating really because Thomas has been poor and there has been games where Alfie could of made a difference, Wycombe, Exeter..... His no nonsense style could of earned us points the back end of games. Good luck to him.

Sad end but an opportunity for Alfie to rebuild his career. I remember in that FA cup tie v Sheffield United people were saying he was the next player to move for a big fee. It shows how quickly things can change in football
