If only he came through Chelsea's or Liverpool's youth set up.

Percy Purnell said. People read what they want to react to on here sometimes! Kinda funny he isnt a "Joey defender" when we currently cant defend at all tho. FWIW i definitely said he should have been picked ahead of Wheelan and Hoole in CB a few times this season. Glad for him though and agree he wasnt going to get any game time here. When someone is moved on it’s not the time to have a go at them. They are all human (even Westbrooke) and have feelings like the rest of us. As many have said in wishing him well he never gave less than 100% for us on and off the pitch and had a great sense of humour. I was lucky to meet him at The Quarters just as it opened and he was deep into a rehabilitation spell, training alone. I asked him how he felt being constantly referred to as a ‘Bristolian’ (I knew he wasn’t). ‘Bit harsh’ was his reply. Lovely guy with time for everyone and always encouraging. Glad you got a great start at Mansfield Alfie!. (He was born in RUH Bath and lived in Melksham. Gas through and through).[/quote] Great post. Some need to take a hard look at themselves before pressing post.

He was a good player next to Craig and MOTM a fair few times. I think we will regret this and he will go onto better things. I wish the lad well in anything he does from here on in, yet would bet everything I have he doesn’t play higher than league one before he jacks it in. Plenty of good Rovers players never played higher than league one in their club football. Astafjevs for example .

Wasn't that down to most of us assuming AK had lost his way and possibly hadn't recovered from his knee ops? Not sure many of us expected him to be MotM for Mansfield in just his second game for them. Meanwhile his replacement has conceded 5 goals on his debut and then given away a match losing penalty in his second game! Not really as he was on the bench a lot. I trust Barton and his team to make the right decisions given he sees them almost every day and has played at the top level. That’s working well isn’t it 😂. Picks the team, has majority of possession but no end product. Yeah, superb tactician plus great at projecting his faults onto the players when he had picked them, laid out the way his wants them to play and the set up. Let’s see what happens today as I near enough am praying his doesn’t sulk and give up, as he did when we had our record low relegation season , with him as manager. He really needs to show true leadership, admit HIS mistakes and take responsibility for the tactics

Just waiting for Westbrooke to start flaming for someone like Carshalton and hearing stuff like "we didnt give him a run of games" etc etc to be fair virtually everyone is just wishing him the best, not saying he should be playing. Not being a “Barton player” is a whole different matter from if he is good enough to play for Bristol Rovers. I wouldnt have got rid of him if I was managing the club - he’d be on the team sheet but played to his strengths. To me it’s a great shame a local lad who has done well for the club (imo) despite injuries has moved on and he has shown he is more than capable of playing at L1 level. However if Barton isn’t going to play him because he doesn’t fit into Bartonball then there’s absolutely zero reason for him to be at the club when he can go off somewhere like Mansfield instead and ply his trade and try to get back to this level on merit. Whilst we’ve been awful at times recently we don’t play well launching the ball from the back. If Kilgour was to be played in this squad there would be a rod for his back every time the ball gets lost being lumped to attackers. He needs someone like Craig alongside him and someone like JCH to collect the forward ball.

Clough has always adopted a fairly direct style and he's played Alfie in a back three alongside the experienced James Perch and Elliott Hewitt, both versatile players with Hewitt converted more into a centre half in recent years, but both having started out careers as full backs mostly. Kilgour looks to be the aggressive and dominant ball winner amongst the trio with the other two comfortable on the ball. Up front they seem to go with the physical and experienced Lucas Akins and hard working Rhys Oates, with Jordan Bowery the physical option from the bench.

As you have compared the two, maybe we could have done a straight swop with Liverpool, Alfie for Quansah....i'd have taken that.

It's just that Alfie didn't fit in with the style of play he wants, Alfie was aware of this himself. Much better to let him move on to somewhere where he will get regular game time, than keep him here, in case needed in an emergency. I'm sure that Alfie will do very well, although that doesn't necessarily mean that he would have done well if he remained with Rovers in the current set up.

From the outside looking in Alfie does seem to have a great attitude. Always supporting the playing players, celebrating wins he had no involvement in, always clapping the fans the longest etc. I hope he does do well but I can understand why he is no longer here Absolutely zero evidence Barton wasnt supportive, but that doesnt support the narrative so...

I loved how NC had Derby playing and watchOS, in awe, when we played the friendly against them. That is the calibre of manager I’d love to have. I honestly thought he would be at a prem club and quickly. Makes me wonder why it did not happen as the teams he has been at have seemed to play very good football

Ok, i take your point but i get the impression that he already knew his future was not here so why would that be ? I thought it was daft getting rid when we did and with the lack of decent players in MF but no point going over it, we have to deal the cards we have
