You may wonder what this has to do with Rovers , well i do remember us being on there back in the 1960s when we knocked div 3 league leaders out of the cup , Coventry managed by Jimmy Hill!. !My Question is 'would you miss it if the present controversy ( i know better than to comment on the cause of it!) led to it being scrapped.? personally what was once a 'rush home from pub' to catch on a Saturday night programme has out lived it's appeal and i rarely if ever watch now, there are now so many other ways to catch a game, highlights, time to consign to room 101 IMHO.

There are other ways to watch highlights online but usually shorter clips that don’t give a full understanding of what happened in the game. I think the highlights are edited very well on MOTD and whether you like the analysis and punditry is a personal thing. For our family, not having a sky subscription, it is still a must watch.

I still have an interest in the Premier League so for me it’s almost a ritual and something that makes my Saturday nights. Not just the in depth highlights and analysis but the punditry as well. The problem is BBC are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Not everyone will agree with the outcome as it is but again not everyone would agree had this outcome not arrived. Freedom of speech is a thing of the past in this country. I know In my job my contract specifically says to avoid political debate and this is a prime example of why this is in many ‘ordinary peoples contracts now. Going back out Joey mentioned the holocaust in his summary after a match. Now an idol in Gary Lineker does the same and there’s and outcry of support for him. Was there this support when Joey mentioned it? Think we all know the answer there.

He compared the language being used by the Government to the language being used in the 1930s. Very different from comparing losing a football match to the extermination of millions don't you agree?

[b I absolutely agree with you. The point I’m making is people have been offended by what was said. All this is forgotten because it’s Gary Lineker. I like the bloke myself and I wasn’t offended by what was said but that doesn’t mean others weren’t offended. People will back him and that’s fine as everyone has their own opinions but in circumstances like this I believe he should have been more cautious. He’s taken refugees into his own home so has as much of a right to comment as anyone. I just think the extra point he made was a tad unnecessary and may have brought back some painful memories for their family members. This is obviously my opinion and people will disagree which is kind of the point of a forum to spark RESPECTFUL debate.

The only people offended are the right wing press and the head of the BBC who was appointed by the Tories and had a very dubious role in helping Johnson get a very big loan while he was in the process of being appointed to his new job, by Boris!

Sick of hearing about this, personally, and think the clubs stance will do more harm than good.

I had to laugh when Shearer said he'd pulled out. This is the bloke that seems to have turned a blind eye to the filthy Saudi money at his beloved Newcastle. What a bunch of hypocrites.

After a show of solidarity with Gary Lineker, Everton have announced that they will no longer appear on Match of The Day from next season.

My view is that Lineker has been unfairly treated, misquoted and misunderstood.
As Hugo points out above he compared the language being used by the Government to the language being used in the 1930s. I took that to be simply drawing to attention the lack of regard for the sanctity of human life amongst everything going on with tragic channel crossings and the governments approaches to dealing with it.
My opinion is that the government are targeting the desperate people driven to extremes in an effort to improve their lives, many fleeing for their lives and those of their families being in danger. What the government should be doing is solving the root of the problem working better with France and other countries to stop dangerous channel crossings, tackle the human traffickers and their processes and agree and adopt a proper humanitarian process to deal with these desperate people stuck in the likes of Calais.
I applaud Gary Lineker and everyone else involved with MOTD who are standing in solidarity.

Dare I suggest that the real reason for his dismissal is that many, if not most, people outside of football, and a lot inside it, see him as grossly overpaid for a nothing job. It didn't need much of an excuse to get rid of him. Unfortunately he played into their hands. I don't agree with him but I strongly disagree with his dismissal.
