Feel for Geoff 20man. To win over City fans after his history must have been difficult but he seems a decent bloke and has funny anecdotes and quite impartial. I am sure he will be bombarded by fans asking his views, which will put him in a difficult position. He is no doubt an intelligent man, but probably will feel uneasy about talking about his personal thoughts on the subject. He is paid, and no doubt wants to talk about sport, not politics. Geoff’s a great pro and a gentleman who seems to have the respect of all. He’ll come out of it absolutely fine. Hopefully this stand off won’t last long.

Well done Rovers, what ever your political view you should be allowed to express it. Freedom of speech !!! UTG Not when you are being paid over a million a year and know the company's policies you shouldn't!! He would know, what he can and can't say. He would have attended courses on it, I have previously for rubbish jobs! A lot of employer's will check social media, before employing people know. If your employer pays you to stay impartial on social media, it's not hard to stick to it! Freedom of speech, is just a cop out and an excuse. He knew he was breaking the rules and gets paid enough to stick to them! Do you feel the same and get as hot under the collar about people like Alan Sugar who is very vocal in his support for the government? It has to be applied consistently and that has definitely not happened on this occasion.

Great to see Rovers taking a lead among EFL clubs on this. Makes me even prouder to be a Gashead!

OK - I'll put my head above the parapet. Lineker is a high profile, highly paid and influential BBC 'employee'. He is prone to virtue signalling and making inflammatory comments despite his contract with the BBC requiring him not to. The tweet a couple of days ago did go too far in my opinion in that it implies the Government are as bad as Nazi Germany. Whilst the Government approach and language may appear heavy handed, the problem of 40000 plus arriving via the channel last year, and potentially even more this, has to be addressed. We all know that many of these people are not genuine asylum seekers, a very large percentage being young men from countries that are not war or natural disaster zones. There was a news article just a few days ago reporting the words of a young lady of the RNLI or Border Force where she said she felt threatened by the groups of young men. I believe that this country has a proud record of welcoming genuine refugees/asylum seekers and of helping peoples all around the world. Our country is relatively small in area, we already have the lowest level of nature and wildlife diversity of all major nations and our infrastructure, water supplies etc etc are not infinite. I'm no expert, but there has to be some way to stop the illegal trafficking gangs that peddle a false story and misery for the people they con into making the journey. Gary Lineker's virtue signalling tweet does not help and I find it disappointing that our club has jumped on his bandwagon.

Fantastic decision by Rovers. This utterly corrupt, racist, lying goverment trying to control any criticism of them is disgraceful & what you would expect of China. Clearly got their stooges runing the BBC. This country won't progress until we get rid of the Toriescum.

Rules should be the same for everyone.

Gary Lineker's virtue signalling tweet does not help and I find it disappointing that our club has jumped on his bandwagon. There may be an issue regarding channel crossings and I'm sure many will have an opinion on what amounts to Rowandan refugee camps but regardless of that, and anyone's opinion on Lineker, he was totally correct in what he wrote. The policy and the language around it is appalling. I've been saying for many years that the current political climate in the US and Europe is very much like the 1930s. Many people are (rightly or wrongly) looking to politicians to help our own country before we look to help others. People, even the lower middle classes are struggling to live, work, eat, heat their homes etc. Migrants make a very good/convenient target for people to point the finger at. This is a very dangerous time and the rift between the left and the right only seems to be widening.

Sugar should receive the same punishment, if he's done similar. I don't follow it all on social media, so I don't know what he said. Just saying, it's not hard to keep quiet if you have to. Same applies to Sugar and employees to a lot of companies. They teach you at uni about what you can and can't write on social media, as it might come back on you in the future. Lineker would know what he can do, he would be trained in what he can and can't say. Do you think they don't talk to them about it? If they don't, then the BBC neg to improve their policies and train their staff properly.

The press seem to somehow be trying to say that but it is simply not true. Linekar said the language was similar to 1930's Germany. Which is objectively FACT. Using words like "invasion" and "swarm" is undoubtedly similar to the propaganda used in the 30's. Any mental gymnastics to claim he was comparing the government to Nazis is simply not true. And any suggestion he was disrespecting the Holocaust is also absolute nonsense. Most historians would agree that atrocity was a decade later! I think the whole point is that some of this language sets us on a dangerous path. I can't see anything Linekar said was even untrue whichever side of the political spectrum you sit on.

I'm not going to disagree regarding the issue and difficult climate we and the World faces post Covid, the war in Ukraine, climate disasters becoming more prevalent, etc etc, but we'll have to agree to disagree Hugo regarding the tweet - I don't believe it was appropriate.

If you say something disgusting and vile about a public figure you face a disciplinary process, as far as I'm aware Lineker hasn't done the same.

I didn't say it was appropriate, I said he was correct in what he wrote. My guess is he knew he could be released because of it, but did it anyway. About time a rich celebrity stood up for what's right. Again, I note, no one has yet said he was wrong, only that he should/shouldn't be sacked. Just a shame GL has only now finally grown a pair. Shame he had nothing to say about the World Cup.

Lineker is clever and cute enough to know that whilst his words were carefully chosen, the implication of those words would be taken to infer the connection. He has set a massive and disruptive hare running with this and he shouldn't have - IMHO. That's all I'm going to say on this now - we all know it divides opinion and no-one is likely to change their opinion based on an exchange on here. UTG - Looking forward to three points today.

Shame he had nothing to say about the World Cup. I don't agree with that last line, he had a lot to say about it, in fact he even opened BBC sport coverage of the world cup with a rebuke of Qatar and it's policies. The difference being in that instance it was the BBC's plan for him to comment on those issues whereas he's put them on the spot for speaking out for what's right this time.

Hi it's JB here. As I am not allowed freedom of speech by the club and talk to the BCC today I thought I might give my post match report here in advance
The young players are prone to mistakes, they will learn from them The young players made mistakes today, they haven't learnt from the previous match. The young players made mistakes today, they were brilliant. The young players made mistakes but they will go on to be good professional The young players made mistakes etc etc (answers on a post card for something that I haven't already said please)
Please let me know which phase you like best via my "locked out" twitter account
Thank "god" that there will be no GL etc on Match of the Day tonight, not that I watch it anyway, I am just sick of listening to grossly overpaid prats spewing rubbish from their over inflated important gobs. I will miss the pre match team selection though. Thank "god" that Sky channel will show the highlights on pc without commentary BLISS.
Why does a person like GL think it's acceptable to take an ""alledgedly" £1.2m annual payment for the last 20 years from the likes of poor people to watch TV and then show profound disquiet of poor people. If GL has any real sense of injustice try taking £50K pay and donating the £1.150m balance to food banks, homeless shelters and immigrants. No i don't think that will ever happen. It's my understanding that BRFC has rules regarding twitter account for staff, fines or the sack for breaking them It's my understanding that the FA has rules regarding twitter accounts for players, clubs etc with fines sanctions and points deductions for breaking them. It's my understanding that the BBC has rules regarding twitter accounts for staff etc with fines and sanctions Why o Why has BRFC jumped into this morass when (albeit as far as I know it not the current owners) they have in the past taken action on this very issue of twitter accounts.
