Also look at the thread below on the Grimsby forum. They've just won 3 in a row including a thumping 3-1 win at Barnet and they are still not happy because they are not scoring 3 or 4 goals a game or playing attacking flowing football! www.thefishy.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1425150053/s-new/At this stage of the season its all about getting points on the board so I'd settle for another 9 ugly Gas wins!

As much as I'm enjoying ONE season in this league, the Grimsby forum is a firm reminder that it must only be one... We have lost one match in 30 and we are still only just top. God forbit a NH appointment having a go next year with further budget cuts...

Well SteveK's also moaning about DC's tactics in his usual match report! I just read his report, one of the very few posts that are always worth reading. I hope he continues to make the best contributions to the forums.

Who's suggesting he shouldn't keep posting? Just pointing out we like to moan as well even though we're top.

I don't understand this mentality of Rovers fans. Go and celebrate your success. Why are you here rubbing our noses in it?
Because they have a crippling inferiority complex caused by the bullying suffered at the hands of Bristol City fans throughout early childhood, their school life, student life, working life and beyond. This complex causes most Rovers fans to be bed-wetters well into their teens and, in a great many cases, adulthood (University of the West of England study, 2011). This is obviously no laughing matter, apart from for Bristol City fans which, tragically, only exacerbates the cycle of water and tears that is the lot of a 'Gashead'.
Due to their suffering at the hands of 'bigger boys' in the form of City fans, and having observed bullying behaviour at close quarters through their lives, Rovers supporters seek solace in trying to act as the bully towards fans of much, much smaller clubs with whom their club would not be competing had it not failed spectacularly over many years. What they fail to realise is that it does not count as bullying if those you are trying to bully do not give a toss about you or what you have to say, and whose only feeling towards you is not one of fear or envy but a vague sense of pity.
As fans of a club whose average home attendances are a small fraction of those of Bristol Rovers, we recognise that 'attempts' by Rovers fans to 'banter' with us are akin to Barnet fans trying to goad Wingate and Finchley supporters if we failed on a similar scale to Rovers and found ourselves scrapping away with them at a level at which we should not be competing. In such circumstances Barnet fans would largely have sufficient self awareness to recognise that a little humility is called for, and to hold our tongues until the inevitable promotion back towards the sort of level at which we should be competing.
---------------
Can I make a plea that those who are posting on Barnet's forum put a sock in it? It's been a brilliant couple of weeks but we need to have a bit of class about us. Bragging on other team's forums is a bit daft, particularly with nothing won as of yet. We are only setting ourselves up for a fall if we don't go up.

Yes i agree, but it was Barnet fans coming on here in the first place that started it. I have read most of the Gas replies and it is a bit of light hearted banter, nothing more. They are just peed off with throwing away an 11 point lead that's all.

It allows people to make idiots of themselves with no way and no reason to justify their views*. I would argue winding up Barnet fans online is a good way to ever-so-slightly affect the team's performances as it may make a few fans either not turn up, or turn against the team if things aren't going well*. If we go up, people will hate us as a club and us as fans because we've achieved something few others have. If we don't go up, people will still hate us as a club and us as fans as we've not achieved something few others have. But it'll be fun finding out which happens, and if you can't wind up a few Barnet fans along the way, what can you do? *all of these statements are probably wrong...depends on the next 9 games for us and 10 games for Barnet. The internet is always black or white and there is no middle-ground. Abraham was right...

But isn't it exactly the same as the chants you'd hear at match day? Isn't going "whey!" when an opposition striker hits it out of the stadium after going through on goal winding him/them up? What about "you're sh** ahhhh!" when their keeper is in front of the Blackthorn? "You're sh** and you're getting wet?"
Trash talk and gloating is the life blood of football, we all participate from time to time whether down the pub or on the terraces, some people do it online, deal with it, why give the internet special status as a medium for communication?

I trust many of you have seen some of the posts on the skrill premier banter page on Facebook. Much of it makes me recoil. As for banter. I'd rather save it till we have a confirmed ticket out if this league!

But isn't it exactly the same as the chants you'd hear at match day? Isn't going "whey!" when an opposition striker hits it out of the stadium after going through on goal winding him/them up? What about "you're dung ahhhh!" when their keeper is in front of the Blackthorn? "You're dung and you're getting wet?" Trash talk and gloating is the life blood of football, we all participate from time to time whether down the pub or on the terraces, some people do it online, deal with it, why give the internet special status as a medium for communication? I confess to joining in with the chant of "The Gas are going up!" when we scored against Altrincham, even though I now recognise, upon reflection, that promotion is by no means certain and that this was an inappropriate and arrogant thing to do. I realise that it could have caused offence and/or distress to football fans of other clubs, including those who were not present at the time, but who may have been told of this regrettable lapse. I also ask for 27,437 other such offences to be taken into account.

The idea that the level of banter between fans on the internet needs to be at the same sort of level as that of fans in a football stadium is pretty risible. And for evidence, try getting two-hundred people to chant your post.
