Fanastic achievement by AFC Bournemouth... Starting in Lge 2 with a 17 point deduction 7 years ago they have made it to the Premiership. Their supporters must be in dreamland.
But it proves that small clubs can achieve great things - there is hope for all of us lower league 'minnows'. Long live the football pyramid and the eternal optimism of the fans!

Never liked Bournemouth as a club... always a bogey team for Rovers... and now they have a Russian sugar-daddy and in the Premier League, i hate them even more!

Happy for them as it shows what a good young English manager can do with the right backing and that an "unfashionable" club of similar size to Rovers can get to the Premier League (with a fist full of Rubles!). Jealous as I still see them as rivals from '73-74.

Who else remembers when we beat them 1-0 at the Mem in the relegation to League 2 season? I think Jeff Hughes scored a penalty Infront of the South Stand? Brilliant atmosphere that night, I remeber think we'd stay up after that!
How our fortunes have changed in the last few years!

I can remember going down there a few years ago in the F.A cup, lost 1-0. Lewis Haldane missed a 1 on 1 in the last minute. They are Prem now, and we are non-league. Who'd have guessed that?

Can't agree with this - there's no hope for us (or anyone similar) unless we end up with a Russian billionaire also (like they have).

I remember seeing us being battered by them at Desn Court with Efan Ekoku scoring a hat-trick. Can't ever remember seeing us beat them. Good for them though, with their attendances it is an astonishing achievement. Howe has done wonders there.

But by all accounts they have not spent a massive amount of money.
They just got a very good manager and he brought very good players that suited his needs at each stage of their rise in his two periods of management at the club.

I remember going there in the relegation year and throwing away a lead with ten minutes left to lose the game.
We got relegated the next week but those two goals killed us really.

Yay, another team bankrolled by a foreign billionaire! I wish they would all form their own league where they can compare the size of their owners wallets on a weekly basis. Then the rest of us can get on with playing sport on a level playing field.

I guess that the difference between fans. Its absolutely the last thing I would like to see happen to Rovers. To me the huge injection of cash from rich owners and sky has absolutely ruined the game.

Well in excess of a 50M spend to get us to exactly where we were to begin with....? Nah, you're alright, I think I'll pass.

So, say Steve Lansdown bought us instead of City you would have been totally against it? (Not having a pop or anything) A genuine question. Absolutely. I'm not sure how to explain it though. I guess I don't crave success so much that I am happy to sacrifice the connection I feel with the club for it. Its morals. Its history. Its people. Its faults (which you moan about but you would secretly be sad to see corrected). All the things that I love about a match day that would be slowly eroded in the name of progress. When a load of money is thrown at a club the hope, the butterflies before a game are replaced with arrogant expectation. You expect to push past clubs that you have historically jousted with as if you are now somehow better than them. And when you inevitably get the success, you don't own it. Its not deserved. Its tainted. I would honestly rather see us stay in the non league and retain our dignity rather than try and buy our way out of it off the back of some billionaires ill gotten gains. I realise I am probably in the minority. I also realise that Rovers are currently bank rolled to a large degree and I still don't really understand why that's necessary.

Off the top of my head, but didn't Bournemouth sign someone in the Jan transfer window for 4.5 million quid? I can't see them affording that on their gates, so all this talk about the 'small club done good' is nonsense really.

Pretty good considering the original deal was only £3000.

The Russian bloke has put in £15-£20m which for Bournemouth is a lot as you say with their gates etc, but still small in comparison to the Prem teams and other Championship teams
Promotion has just earned them £100m+
