The reason I resurrected this thread was because it's hard to keep up with the forum and so much transfer news, and wanted to put this on a Chris Lines thread and not just general transfer thread. Interesting news that PV have signed ANOTHER midfielder! Must help our bargaining position a lot www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/3325934524 June 2015 Port Vale have signed former Crewe midfielder Anthony Grant and defender Ben Purkiss after Walsall released him. Grant, 28, who played 91 times for Crewe after joining in 2013, has now signed a two-year deal at Vale Park. "Anthony will be a great addition to our squad and will really help strengthen the midfield area", manager Rob Page told the club website. "He has performed very well for Crewe over the last couple of years and we're delighted to have him on board as we head into the new season."

What doesn't help our cause is that we paid 100% of whatever his wages was last season while he was here so both him, Port Vale and his agent know there's good money to be spent and they want the biggest slice possible.

But if we play hardball and don't give into their demands then they will be in danger of cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Another option is signing Torquay's Luke Young. Torquay are desperate for the money and it would not make us as desperate to sign Lines. Depends how tight the budget is I guess.

And Lines has a young kid, was commuting to Stoke, and wants to be here. That will also mean a lot. If neither will bend then say adios. There are literally 1OO's of football players out there in need of a job.

Depends how tight the budget is I guess. has a discipline problem, not helped by having an [ex] manager who laughed off their discipline problems and blamed everyone else buy himself / themselves. IF DC thinks he can tame the lad, then maybe, but doesn't seem like the kind of situation DC likes. In contract [presumably need to pay a fee for him] / discipline / hyped up player.

BUT be careful of stats- he took over 3OO corners and freekicks for them last season. I would hope that anyone who did that would get a lot of assists. Missed 6 games through suspension. 1O yellows / 1 red. Didn't score after mid-October. Maybe he likes it when the going is good but not so effective when the team were struggling? DC could sort him out, but no-one wants to pay transfer fees these days. How about a cheeky season-long loan offer? will reduce their wage bill

What doesn't help our cause is that we paid 100% of whatever his wages was last season while he was here... true. but was only for 8 games, which then became 11. A necessary evil in order to get us over the line, and it worked. No different to paying a consultant higher wages for an important short-term job. He/she would not expect to get that levelof payment every week of a 2 year contract.

For a pleasant change our board speculated to accumulate, we spent say £15K on Lines wages but achieved 3 big gates at the Mem plus the Wembley money not forgetting promotion, that must have all banked us around £1m, not a bad return!
Torquay disbanding thier youth set up this week shows how grim failing to get promotion could have been!

i dont really think its about lines,,its about getting a good creative midfield player within our wage structure,,, lines or anyone else as long as they can provide that ability.

Just ask any Argyle fan who couldn't believe he was released by John Sheridan this time last year.

Well apparently Grimsby are offering better terms than us to a player that wants to stay with us. Can't see the Lines deal happening based on that...unless we'd squirrelled away half of Monkey's money to pay for Linesy!

Maybe it hinges on the length of the deal?

That has little to do with Lines or finance. Also their circumstances are similar. Li escwants to be near his family here as does AM up there. You reckon Grimsby pay more than us?! If DC had wanted him, he would be here next season-Monkhouse that is.
