www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTOL-ROVERS-d-love-stay-Rovers-season-says/story-26524621-detail/story.htmlChris would be a very good addition on a permanent basis. My fear is that with our interest in Lines being public, Vale will hold us to ransom. I'm sure I read that Vale want him off the wage bill, so fingers crossed they let him join us. One thing is for sure, I don't want another JJOT style transfer saga all summer. Months of speculation will only increase the pressure on Lines, if he does join us. He is a very good player for a club in our position, but lets just let DC take care of things.

Lines, Sinclair, Mansell. Hmm. 2 from 3 of those might just do it in LG 2. Not amazing but competitive.

Think all gasheads would love him to sign. Never thought he would when he arrived on loan

If we hold onto Linesy that will be a major coupe.

If we hold onto Linesy that will be a major coupe. Without him we'll be in a right estate. If we do get him, I might celebrate with a night in a saloon. I feel it's more important to keep our hatchback four though.

@roadman will be fuming: he's seen the videos from Embargo and is convinced it's Lines's influence that got the gaffer drunk.

@alidurdenbbc: Chris Lines' return to #BristolRovers looks more likely after Port Vale midfielder Michael O'Connor signs new deal and Sam Foley joins them.

I don't want to get my hopes up about this, but it seems like good news.

Would be really surprised if they tried to hold out for a fee. Hard to say. On one hand, they have a player who doesn't really want to be there, costing them more than they can afford. On the other hand, Vale are reportedly cash-strapped so will not be keen to let an asset walk away for nothing. My guess will be a small fee. There is no sense in them pricing us out of a deal and being lumbered with him.

An "asset" I doubt Lines has any transfer fee in the open transfer market in this age of free transfers, more importantly PV don't want to be shelling out £2K/3K a week to a player they no longer want, particularly if they are cashed strapped.

They will let him go for nothing so that some other club will take the players wages of off them
In Rovers case (in the past) we have often paid the players off to leave with a settlement or covered a % of their wages for x period of time so that another club could afford them
If Rovers can agree a wage with Linesy, Port Vale will happily let him go for nothing

Radio Stoke to-day states four players at Vale have now signed new contracts and delighted to say not a mention of CL.

I think you have brought out a key point...If Rovers can agree a wage with Linesy. The apparent lack of speed of our "out of contract" players signing new contracts suggests to me that money remains tight at Rovers. Lines came to Port Vale from a Championship side, initially only on a one year contract...surely therefore not a big drop in salary. Let's say he is on £10k a month. Difficult challenge for DC to: a) Get Lines to drop his salary by much b) Not have to give him a 3 year contract to offset any drop in salary BUT c) Keep a happy squad where we will (probably) have first team players earning less than half of what Linesy currently earns For me, a case of good negotiation on both sides, with Linesy possibly having to take a pay cut to get back to Bristol and Rovers giving him a two year contract with a third year both ways (subject to appearances in year 2) to help him with the pay cut...but what do I know?

No real challenge for DC as he simply gives him our best offer and hope he's accepts in order to get his career back on track, if he doesn't we will have to move on to another target. The real problem is for Lines as if we don't offer him what he wants he may not get his dream move back to Bristol.

It's clearly a bargaining chip. They start off saying 'if you want him you'll have to pay for him' [whilst his agent whispers in his ear, and our ear, that he could sit at PV for a year, and thus shouldn't take a pay cut to join Rovers], and after some bargaining they will reluctantly agree to let us have him for free and we think we've done well, and then agree to pay all or most of the same salary he was on. After the deal is done the PV lot will then gather in a back room and you'll hear the whoops and hollers as far away as Gloucestershire. I REALLY think we need to play hardball on this one. No transfer fee, and a reduction in wages to what is fair and affordable to us. Otherwise move on elsewhere.
