With all the discussion of further promotion, new investors, new stadium, new players, etc, what would our short to medium term targets (say three years) be and what would be needed to get there?
For me I would like us back in League 1 and finishing in the top 10 whilst playing in a good stadium (UWE or decent plan B). After that become debt free and have excellent training facilities. Only then look to challenge for the Championship (5 years from now) once the foundations are built.
The following springs to my mind -
New stadium - £30m New training facilities - £? Pay off director's debt - £5-7m? Pay off external debt - £5m? Team of sufficient quality to be a top 10 side in league 1 - £500,000 - £750,000 for 3-5 players over the three years
Not cheap and money won't guarantee the playing side.
Does anyone know the sort of sums other teams have paid in order to gain promotion out of League 2?

Yr 1
Consolidate league status. Lower/more realistic running costs
Yr 2
Top 10 finish Working towards break even running
Yr 3
Promotion push if possible (based on financial position) Break even finances
Following years
If promotion is gained, consolidation on the pitch Work towards lowering debt
If not repeat Yr 3

Id take mid table obscurity any day next season. Just for the one mind. I couldn't agree more, which is why I suggested 3 years. Just trying to get a balance between stagnation and getting ahead of ourselves.

We could be in even more debt by the end of it. I agree re breaking in terms of income over expenditure. I would like to think we are on our way to that after last season.

Step one, don't get relegated. Don't even come close. Strengthen squad.
Step two ?
Step three, profit.

Where's richhertford when you need him?
We need some GROUNDBREAKING goals!
Mind you from the Wycombe troll's thread there is plenty of groundbreaking to be done next season.

I can't see the logic of starting this thread as surely everything now relies on the outcome of our court case, and also whether Sainsbury's submit an appeal if Judgement is given in our favour.

Yeah, unfortunately, we can't even plan two weeks ahead, at the moment. That's the problem. So much is up in the air with UWE it must be impossible to plan where we are going. I just can't help but feel it will be pretty bleak should we get the wrong decision from the judge in a couple of week's time. Either way, planning is essential. It seems we have been relying on blind faith and throwing money, that i'm not even sure we have, at crap players. Then when it all goes tits up, getting another manager in. Hopefully, we are now in a position to give a manager time to reshape the club. Our plan, as supporters, should be to back Clarke and trust his judgement. Hopefully the board will do likewise.

Clarke said he wouldn't consider leaving Rovers until he'd achieved his target of League 1 football. IMO, there's no mid-table consolidation in football, if you're good enough then you go for it. Teams change all the time and footballers and managers come and go. You only get a team to peak once in a while so take it as far as you can while you can and replace the odd player when needed without rocking the boat.

DC seems more ambitious than many of our supporters it seems. P'raps he's raising the expectations that Paul Buckle lowered for us.
