For anyone undecided about making the trip along the M4 to sutton on Sunday lunchtime can I just say the new £500 000 3G pitch pitch is now ready to use and looks absolutely fantastic ... It's like a snooker table and rovers will be the 1st team to play on it & have promised to send a strong side to the famous old ground ... Come along a warm welcome awaits

From their website:
It's now only a week to go before the new 3G surface at Gander Green Lane is officially inaugurated with a game against a Crystal Palace XI, kick off 7.45pm. We will be marking the evening by welcoming guests from Sutton Common Rovers and AFC Wimbledon Ladies, who will both be playing home games at Gander Green Lane in the coming season, as well as JD's Football School, who will be running summer holiday coaching classes for youngsters at the ground during July and August and who have good links with the club's junior section.
Also present will be members of the Sutton United Community Football team, who made such an impression when making their debut against Woking in April, and our girls' Under 11 team, who swept all before them with the treble of the Surrey League, Surrey League Cup and London Capital Cup last season, and who will play an exhibition 5-a-side game at half time.
The club will also take the opportunity to announce its official charity partner for the coming season following successful previous link-ups with Radio Marsden, Sutton MENCAP and St Raphael's Hospice, while it will be a chance as well to see U's lining up in this season's kit, which carries the name of Banstead Downs Golf Club across the front, the two local sporting organisations having teamed up for the current season.
Sutton season tickets are valid for the game, and pay on the door admission is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for juniors.
Before that U's entertain Bristol Rovers, who regained their Football League place at the first time of asking, on Sunday, kick off 1pm, and home friendlies are also arranged against Welling United (Saturday 25 July, 3pm) and Bromley (Saturday 1 August, 3pm). Admission for those games is £8 for adults, £4 for concessions and £1 for juniors, and, again, season tickets are valid, making the £99 season ticket on offer this season even better value.
-------
So, looks like we're not actually playing the first official inaugural match on their new surface (I guess as League 2, we're not good enough for that) and Palace reserves will be doing the honours.

The pitch was only finished yesterday ... So however you want to look at it , rovers will be the 1st team to kick a ball on it.... It's worth a visit just to see the pitch .... It really is out of this word

Been to Sutton's ground loads of times back in the 80s when I lived in surrey. Used to watch Leatherhead play for a number of years. Best match at Sutton I went to was without doubt when they beat Coventry in Jan 86 2-1 in an FA Cup 3rd round tie.

Sutton are the only 'proper' non league club to have knocked a top flight team out of the FA cup... I know Luton beat Norwich a couple if seasons ago ... But Luton were about as much a 'proper' non league club as rovers were!!

Not sure what the problem is. I only mentioned that we weren't officially inaugurating the pitch, and no one else has said anything remotely negative. Not sure what there is to ignore, really.
In any case, I'm not whining that Sutton don't rate us proper enough to inaugurate their pitch, just whining that we clearly aren't box office enough to do so. Nothing against Sutton.
But, you know, good that the police have turned up to make sure everyone is posting acceptably.

All I did was quote from Sutton's website about the official status of our game. It was a perfectly reasonable post. If people take offence at that, they should probably take it up with SUFC, coz it was from their site. You came on the thread specifically to have a go at people, so not sure why you're being so disingenuous about it.
