I've not seen another viable Plan B from anybody on here, only if it begins with 'let's get a sugar daddy' or 'with significant investment...' There is no evidence that people are lining up and willing to take over. Dream world. Don't blow loads of money on sharp/opportunistic deals for getting a stadium on the cheap. The board f**k off and write off their debts. They failed to make money off the club or progress it in any way, so now they can pay for their failure. We work on getting the Mem up to standard gradually. We cut our cloth as befits a mid-range 6,000 att. L1/L2 club. Invest in the stadium, and the local community, youth team, decent youth scouting. No one gets rich, but no one flirts with bankruptcy, and we end up with a stadium to feel comfortable in, if not be proud of, and a club with its roots in the community, and a thriving youth/development program. You could say that that won't get us very far or isn't ambitious, but had we adopted this sort of approach ten years ago, say, then we'd be in a much, much better position today than we are. This I'd love us to move to UWE in the original plans. But if its a watered down version we don't own, I'd rather we stay at the Mem. It's only unsustainable if we overspend. God forbid if the club was actually run properly and maximised it's revenue streams. Unfortunately, the boards **** ups have landed us with a debt of £8m (??), and so 'have to move' to pay back their mess.

South, will be joining us in the same division soon, most likely debt free whilst owning thier own ground!!

It's a lovely idea Antonio, but where do you get the money for all this? A fan-owned club would live within its means I'm sure, but would our fanbase accept being an Exeter or a Wycombe? Because that's what we'd be. Bear in mind we've had a thread on here this week which criticises our board for moving to a 15k seater because its not big enough.
I'm not convinced there would be enough cash to do up the Mem, Pompey are fan owned now and they can't afford to do up Fratton Park to the standard required by H&S, despite getting 15k through the turnstiles. Fan owned clubs struggle to finance their youth teams too. Exeter have clung on but Wycombe scrapped theirs in 2012. It could work, I have no doubt that there are dedicated Gasheads who would get involved, but the repercussions of it going wrong are daunting.
Nice to have a realistic idea being put forward to discuss, makes a change from the ITK types talking a lot but saying nothing.

At least we would be break even. The biggest problem we have is the stranglehold the current board have on the club because of that debt. Not only does it stop them leaving, it also seems to mean we will be forced to sell the one asset the club has.

I was just saying 'we' to mean the club. I just meant a board (of whatever type) who would concentrate on balancing the books, building slowly, maintaining the ground, while playing to the community roots. But as you say, lots of people would dislike this for its lack of ambition.

Not only does it stop them leaving, it also seems to mean we will be forced to sell the one asset the club has. Absolutely, the asset also prevents outside investment I think, because of the increased value of shares. That's the difference between us and Oxford for example, who were invested in this summer. No doubt a Supporter's Trust would be more financially stable than the current board, because a ST couldn't afford to rack up huge debts! I don't think its viable whilst we have debt and stadium problems. If Plan B is successful? I actually think a Supporter's Trust could work at that point. I think though whilst we have the Mem and the debts outside investment of that ilk is very unlikely. That's why Plan B may be better than people think if it allows us to 'start from scratch', so to speak. Potential for new investment/ideas becomes a lot more feasible when there isn't £30m worth of asset attached to it. @holmes Hadn't seen that link before, interesting stuff! Exeter don't own their ground from what I can remember, but good to see that the ST are looking to improve it. Hopefully it works for them.

We cant stop falling out on a forum, how the hell can we even think of fan ownership ? It would be like one of those Popeye Vs the Hulk or what ever those films are.

If Plan B involved UWE & AN Other investing a 33% each in the new staduim then why on earth would they hand over a £10m+ investimant to a fans trust, who could well have no experience between them of running a business?
I really think fans need to wake up and realise there's not going to be fans trust running Rovers any time soon, or a millionaire turning up with a spare £10/20m to invest in Rovers.

I'm not quite sure that you understand how a supporters trust operates but it is very similar to any other company with an appointed board of directors with various key skills and amongst our fanbase we have some very successful businessmen so I have no fear that the quality of board elected by the supporters would be excellent. I wouldn't expect investors to hand over a stadium to anybody but I 'm damn sure they would negotiate a lease and collect their rent when it's due.

Why are we still contemplating the moon shot when it could well result in a financial meltdown? We are masters and owners of our own domain at the Mem.Tart it up build a proper south stand and it works fine well to the top of league 1. Obviously NH needs to roll the dice and go sh** or bust for his own reasons. Let's not pretend that his interests (payback asap at all costs) in any way align with outs (long term viability).I'm giving some thought over the weekend as to how we can put a wedge under this runway train. (Ps where do i pick up my award for post with most mixed metaphors? )
