TBH this all sounds pretty positive stuff which most of us have been asking for? He is expected to be officially presented at the Memorial Stadium later today where Bristol Rovers will confirm that Sexstone is being brought on board to lend his experience towards the continuing bid to build a new stadium on land owned by the University of West England in Stoke Gifford.
He will also oversee the process of putting in place plans t o maximise revenue streams resulting from the new venue should Rovers eventually realise their dream of constructing their proposed new home away from the Memorial Stadium. Sexstone is also expected to tap in to a wide-ranging business network in an effort to help the current board of directors in the on-going process of trying to attract outside investment.
The Post has been told that he is taking up the position on a voluntary basis after being persuaded to come on board as a result of his friendship with current directors Chris Jelf and Ed Ware.
During his tenure, Gloucestershire won five one-day trophies at a time when Sexstone was overseeing the ultimately successful bid to bring the County Ground up to international standard. He joined Bristol City in 2001 and was at the club as they won promotion from League One to the Championship in 2007 before narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League when they lost the play-off final to Hull City the following season. Revenues more than doubled during Sexstone's tenure at Ashton Gate as he managed to turn the venue into one that delivered a host of income-boosting non-football related activities. Fair play to him for doing this on a voluntary basis - that alone improves my opinion of the man. Always found him annoying when he was at Ashton, so that must have meant he was doing something right down there - hopefully he will become just as annoying to his former employer and their fans .....
