LINKThe Bristol Rovers star would be an excellent signing from the club.Leeds United boss Steve Evans has made it clear that Leeds will not be bringing in emergency loan signings just for the hell of it at the moment. The club are, despite their recent blip, still some way off relegation and way off of promotion so have very little to play for this season. With that in mind they have plenty of time to start planning for the new season. Leeds should be looking to strengthen every position for the future, including the defence. Lewie Coyle and Charlie Taylor look like long-term options at full-back whilst Gaetando Berardi appears to be a top option for both sides of the defence. But central defence is an area that needs improving. Sol Bamba and Giuseppe Bellusci are both error-prone and a new centre-back would be welcomed at the club. So what about talented Bristol Rovers defender Tom Lockyer? The 21-year-old Welshman is a cut above in League Two and in January he was awarded the Football League Young Player of the Month. He is out of contract at the end of the season and would therefore be available for a compensation fee if Leeds were ready to make a move for the player. He could offer a great option in the heart of defence but he can also play in midfield and a utility player is always welcome at this level. Lockyer would be a great affordable option for Leeds United to improve their current team and should be a player they consider.

Newcastle, Crystal P and Millwall had scouts at the last home game, among many others.
There must be a strong possibility that they were there to look at Lockyer.

I would expect to see some development in the next few weeks with a few out of contract players, as im hoping we will be in a better position now to offer a more desireable package to the likes of TL

Why would Tom want to go to a cash-strapped club like Leeds?

Listening to Tom on Radio Bristol last week, I did get the vibe when Geoff was asking him questions on a new contract that he wasn't too keen to talk about it and that he didn't really say anything to suggest he would want to stay.

Tom has the potential to be something special at this club and I hope he stays with us to witness something special.
As DC stated before Wael arrived we don't need to sell our best players.

I really hope that Tom signs a contract with us. I'd love us to keep him but to see him leave for next to nothing would be awful.

Written by Lockyers agent I presume. Don't see why Lockyer would go sit on the bench at Leeds when he's having a team built around him here. Lockyer isn't the sort of player Leeds go for anyway , I'm sure they will sign some over priced foreigners instead.

Why would Tom want to go to a cash-strapped club like Leeds? Because they are in the championship and we're not?

All I'm saying is I really want us to keep our best players and to do that we need to sign them before they sign for someone else. I don't think it's crap it's how football works.

It's really really embarrassing. how the hell is it embarrassing!? We've waited YEARS & YEARS to be able to say ''no, we don't need to sell our best players, we've got money too now!'' ... Quite right that's what Wael & Clarke should say. Let's change the thread title because Leeds should NOT sign Tom Lockyer, Bristol Rovers should keep him!! UTG

So hopefully our new owner will get his cheque book out and keep the players we would have lost in the past. We need to keep the majority of this squad and add more quality to it not rip it all up and start again.

Blimey, why would Tom, one of the most grounded footballers I've seen and heard want to play for a neanderthal man like Steve Evans? Perhaps he might not be there at seasons end but even so. And IMO we should Invest to keep him, it wouldn't be splashing the cash. It would be putting a marker down and saying we are going to keep our best players and build rest of team around them.
