Blimey, why would Tom, one of the most grounded footballers I've seen and heard want to play for a neanderthal man like Steve Evans? Perhaps he might not be there at seasons end but even so. And IMO we should Invest to keep him, it wouldn't be splashing the cash. It would be putting a marker down and saying we are going to keep our best players and build rest of team around them. Yeah, if we mean to progress steadily it makes little sense not keeping the sort of home grown player who clearly has what it takes to progress alongside the team and club.

Let's not start with the 'get your cheque book out' crap. It's really really embarrassing. Why ? All I'm saying is I really want us to keep our best players and to do that we need to sign them before they sign for someone else. I don't think it's crap it's how football works. We all want to keep our best players, but let's not start it with get your cheque book out, reeks of South of the River.

Young Tom was in talks with Higgs reference a new contract just before we were taken over. At the present time I am given to understand that he is very happy with Rovers and quite happy to stay if new contract terms can be sorted.

Who cares what those south of the river think anyway ?

i didn't realise Tom was OOC at the end of the season.
disappointing.
He is seriously worth £2m, but a compensation tribunal wouldn't offer that.
In terms of progress so far, age and how far I'm sure he'll go, he's up with what happened to Gary mabbutt & larry Lloyd. he will be a very good player at a very good level for a very long time.

Having watched Leeds v Brighton on TV the other night, they'd do well to get rid of half of their squad and start again!
TL would be a great signing for a much better team than Leeds Utd!
And it's great to seem them struggling! The most arrogant fans ever to visit The Mem!

If he can't get in the Peterborough side he won't get in those teams. How old is he? Thought he was one of the best on the pitch? Don't know but he was originally with Hartlepool then moved to Posh, couldn't get in the team and has gone back on loan to H'pool. I think he was Ronnie Moore's last loan signing before being sacked. Didn't see match so can't comment on him but just felt if he couldn't get in Posh's team would struggle higher up. UTG!!

I see what your saying, just if he is still young he has plenty of time to develop, and for such a small lad I thought he wasn't afraid of anything. One to watch I feel. Edit: he's 21

Let's not start with the 'get your cheque book out' crap. It's really really embarrassing. how the hell is it embarrassing!? We've waited YEARS & YEARS to be able to say ''no, we don't need to sell our best players, we've got money too now!'' ... Quite right that's what Wael & Clarke should say. Let's change the thread title because Leeds should NOT sign Tom Lockyer, Bristol Rovers should keep him!! UTG Because for starters we don't even know how much money we have or don't have. Maybe when that's clarified we can all go round screaming about being owned by a billionaire or not.

Lockyer is only going to get better and he's the only player that I would truly be gutted if we lost.
The rest I believe we could replace without having to spend a lot but we would do well to find another young CB with the potential and ability of Tom, along with the experience he already has at such a young age.
I hope we're really pushing the boat out to get him signed up!

Why would Tom want to go to a cash-strapped club like Leeds? Because they are in the championship and we're not? That's a bit short sighted mate. Leeds have been in decline since George Graham left for Spurs and we all know the only way is up for the Rovers. Hopefully in a few years we will be playing them again,or if not before.

To be fair to Socrates I'm sure he would have used the same wording if Higgs was still chairman. It really is a common used term in general not an arrogant one towards the rich.

If he can't get in the Peterborough side he won't get in those teams. How old is he? Thought he was one of the best on the pitch? To be honest all the Rovers players were better than any Hartlepool player. Man for man none would get in our side!

I still can't understand how NH has allowed TL & MT to run down thier contracts, what's the point in investing in good young players then potentially losing them for a small fee/on a free?

I think there will be a huge overhaul of the squad next season. With all bar 3 out if contract and no new deals being signed we could have exciting times ahead
