I guess he can't "earn" a contract unless he gets more game time, although how much stick does Lines get for seemingly putting in more effort when his contact is coming to an end? And to get more game time, you impress in training. Even on match days he looks to be joking about sometimes rather than seriously warming up.

I might get slated for saying this, but whenever Ellis Harrison is on the pitch, I get a feeling that he is a "yellow card waiting to happen". I don't know what his disciplinary record is like this season so I have got nothing to back this statement up - but that feeling is a very strong one.
For that reason I would start with Gaffney and would prefer Ellis to be used as an impact substitution. He can and has affected games really positively when being used like that. However, if he started I would be worried that he might get two yellows or even a red.
I have also been quite impressed with McBurnie - he seems to add another option, and I do like Easter, playing in that role just behind the front 2.
Isn't it great to have options up front.

Ellis could learn from that because Ellis has all the other attributes needed to be a really successful player at the highest level. Work rate counts.

I think you are fully justified to feel like this. He picks up silly bookings, like against FGR in the semi finals last season getting sent off, that could potentially have turned the tie.

What a joy to have options!
I'm in the Easter start for Gaffney camp then bring him on later, but what the hell, if it ain't working we can change it

What was the first thing Ellis did after he scored that goal - yep he put his hands up to his ears saying "i can't hear you" he needs to grow up and get out he would be my 6th choice now

It is going to be a really tough decision for DC to make in the summer.

I also wish he hadn't netted the equaliser on Saturday.... For Christ's sake. I'm very glad indeed he equalised but that ear-cupping thing gets to me. The fans forked out a lot of money to travel to Northampton and they also pay his wages. Everyone was happy for the club and for him when he scored, so why add that sour note to something good?

I really don't think it's anything sour etc. I really do think it's just a celebration he likes

Do you know - I couldn't care less what EH does when he scores. Just bloody glad he has scored.

Do you know - I couldn't care less what EH does when he scores. Just bloody glad he has scored. Yeah, I do think some are being picky when it comes to this. Ellis certainly gets stuck in whenever he comes on and has had a great impact in games : Oxford, Plymouth (away) and on Saturday, but for me he rarely shows enough quality over 90 mins when he starts - later in games when players are more tired he's all over them and trying to get on the end of through balls and crosses. You could argue Gaffney hasn't being scoring enough but his all-round game is very good. If DC thinks he needs a rest, I'd sooner have McBurnie starting - the lad is good on the deck as well as in the air.

Gaffney has a lot more to his game than just goals I think. That ridiculously good cross-field pass he played to set up a Matty Taylor chance in the Cambridge highlights was sublime for a player of his size and his experience. He's a bit of a late bloomer and he still seems pretty raw but he's a bit of a talisman for the team - even when he's not scoring we're winning!

What was the first thing Ellis did after he scored that goal - yep he put his hands up to his ears saying "i can't hear you" he needs to grow up and get out he would be my 6th choice now And 6th choice?! Behind Fallon?! Just what I was about to say, I wasn't there but watched on the beam back and it looked like it was directed at their fans not ours. I'm firmly in the stick with Gaffers camp, he clearly brings so much more to the game than just his goals and while Matty T is banging them in why change it, as someone else said, we've scored 15 in our last 5 games, doesn't need changing imo and also Ellis is better at being an impact sub for me atm. It's very hard to choose between Ellis, Easter and McBurnie for me, but what a great dilemma to have for a change, how we would've loved to have half this problem a few years ago. Edit : Oops, quoted the wrong post, meant to quote the one above about Ellis cupping his ears to the northampton fans.

Imagine wanting to put a striker down the pecking order because of a celebration when he scores an important goal...

Matty Taylor has scored 11 goals in the last 9 games. Doesn't Rory deserve some credit for that too? We have great options up front at present, but McBurnie, Ellis and Easter all have to earn the right to displace Gaffers, who is doing a good job alongside Matty.
