Let's assume he is doing something wrong. Why not? If it was us, those c0cks would be having a field day. It's likely that SL will have his sh1t sorted but that doesn't mean we have to stick up for the bloke. Their owner is a monopolising tax dodging turncoat. Ha, ha.....I'm with you !

Not casting aspersions on Dwane Sports. You said, dig deep enough and you can probably find all sorts. Wtf is that supposed to mean, then, in this context? I just find it weird how on this subject, and it's pretty much the only one I can think of, people forget the local rivalry and run to defend SL at the first opportunity, as if it's illegal to banter about tax. Since when has diligent research and impeccable proof been a requisite to take the p**s out of the sh1te? I mean, what's next? 'You know, I have investigated the situation, and after taking soil samples and doing a few rudimentary sniff tests I must conclude that in all probability Ashton Gate isn't necessarily entirely full of sh**.'
Maybe the wrong turn of phrase, but as I say I doubt any Rovers fan could tell us anything about how we are owned
Sorry If I have misinterpreted some people’s ‘banter’. Trouble with a lot of the 'bants' it's not particularly funny

As to the question of tax avoidance, there are people out there who are far far more knowledgeable regarding International Tax laws etc than anyone on here. It's pretty safe to assume that there is some measure of tax avoidance going on, otherwise, just what would be the benefit of setting up these complex arrangements? Nothing wrong with tax avoidance by the way. Yes, of course, iirc SL has said explicitly that he went to Guernsey for tax avoidance reasons. The trouble is people (deliberately?) mix up evasion and avoidance. It's like mixing up earning a wage and mugging someone. Correct, in response to the last labour government raising income tax levels to 50%. Who'd have thought a democratically elected government would seek to encourage tax avoidance?

You need to double check your tests, because I can assure you that trashton is indeed, without a shadow of a doubt, full of sh1te. Rather than taking lots of small soil samples, what you need to do is construct one big bore hole,....oh wait a minute!

Might I suggest a reality check on the underlying issue here? It's not really about legality - whether it's evasion or avoidance is next to irrelevant as it's all probably totally legal. It's really a moral issue - if you squeeze a fortune out of the UK, shouldn't you contribute to the benefits of the UK? Most on this forum contribute more than their fair share to the upkeep of the UK. SL & his ilk don't. I note his partner Hargreaves lives in Somerset so presumably pays UK tax in full

He can only spend x number of days in the UK

Buying Duty Free is tax avoidance, just on a smaller scale.

Buying Duty Free is tax avoidance, just on a smaller scale. Duty free is avoiding paying a secondary tax using your income that has already been subjected to income tax and national insurance on a one off occasion (for most of us). Basing your businesses through multiple offshore holding companies is avoiding paying any income tax at all. They are completely different situations.

[br) I know one, a Gashead as well, who was doing it as a black market business - until he got caught & spent some time at Her Majesty's pleasure. But as you say, a much smaller scale - about a billion times smaller! Anyway - so all you guys are totally relaxed over Chelsea & their billionaire tax- avoiding owner distorting football in the UK?

We will be set up in a similar way so would just forget the whole argument. It is exactly what people with money do, to save more money. Sh*t, if someone said to me they could reduce my income tax legally, but it might look slightly bad, I'd certainly have a look! It makes me cry just looking at my Tax and NI contributions each month..... Hell knows what rich peoples would look like

I think it's more like this, although there are probably more side/parallel branches. From their website: "Sustainable Technology Investors Ltd (“STIL”) manages private equity investments in the energy, efficiency, water and waste sectors. STIL invests family office capital from Sustainable Technology Investments (Guernsey) Limited, and family office and high net worth investment through other fund structures. STIL focuses on the asset development of cash generative sustainable technologies and on late stage venture capital opportunities." High Net worth investment via Panama has been the whole issue. Time for the Duke of Guernsey to come clean methinks!!

and where is the actual real evidence of Tax Avoidance/evasion? I trust we will be following any flow of money to/from Bristol Rovers via Jersey? They call it tax avoidance not evasion because, as Nobby points out, it's within the framework of the law.

If it's all legal then it's just a moral issue. Anyone on here had handywork done and been offered the tax free slighty cheaper cash in hand offer and not taken it? (That's asking for some innuendos) Not sticking up for the bloke but if its all above board and he can live with his conscience then so be it. Annoying, Idiot, ted yes. Stupid? Maybe not although I would love it if he got caught out. Just make sure his paperwork is watertight.

But all that money is staying within the UK, SL is taking his money which he'd normally pay in tax out of the UK and spending it elsewhere, imagine if we all started doing that, who'd pay for the NHS, the Police, Schools, our state pensions etc? It also mean the 82er's aren't really playing on a level playing field as all their income is most likely tax free, unlike say us under NH.
