DC did brilliant to turn rovers around and get out of the national league but you have to remember whilst high pressure BRFC are a big city club and the national league had lots of village teams and part timers there. Cheltenham bounced straight back by winning the league easily..... Manchester city,Southampton and Leicester city probably do not look at their league one success as highlights to be proud of ,an evil that needed sorting out more like. Rovers being a non league club was the same. Yes there is a generation who have only ever seen BRFC as a non league ,poor league two and poor to mediocre league one club. So maybe a new generation has a lower expectancy from their club. The club are now back at the starting line ,let's hope rovers never ever ever drop to these low levels again and we can put the 16 years of under achievement behind us Well done Daryl.....but the real test starts now. one of the worse posts ive ever seen!! man city etc all celebrated there league 1 promotions as it meant there clubs were on the way back from where they believe they belong, sean goater for instance is a man city legend despite the obvious fact he wasnt a top class player. its the same with us,we all pondered and worried about a long stay in the conference which at the time of our relegation was the norm but dc has swept us back to league 1 and has nothing to prove at our club "the real test starts now" what a joke!!! Definitely. I bet you can guess who will be one of the first to start the 'DC is out of his depth' threads next season.

Our last few managers Trollope: Coached at Norwich: Cardiff: Penney: ? Who knows? Who cares? Campbell: Played in US and now coaches there. Buckle: Failed at Luton: Went to US (apparently) Mc Ghee: Went to Scotland and apparently coaches them John Ward "helps out at Walsall" Now of all of them, who has gone on to do better things? And if Trollope gets a managerial post as opposed to a coaching role he will again fail miserably. He's OK as a coach, with someone else calling the shots, but as the main man, forget it. If if in the future he proves me wrong then I will eat humble pie. However, the test for him will come when he assembles his own team, not piggy backing on the team built by the previous manager. As others have said, DC completely rebuilt our squad and took us to back o back promotions. A tremendous achievement by a very special talent. I hope he has the wherewithal to progress us further.

maybe at cardiff, tan wants to manage the team so trollope would be a good choice as opposed to a strong personalty type manager?

Well I think you talk utter tosh!! So those clubs you mention did not celebrate their league one success because it was beneath their station? Behave. Somthe real test for Darrel starts now does it? And I bet you are one of those short sighted 'supporters' who will continue to wait till a little blip then call for his head. Just like some last season. You you give Trollope praise for his success with Ian Atkins side, then was the catalyst for our demise with crap signings/attitudes on high wages,£2,500/3000 some of those wasters were on, then say Darrels achievement is nothing even tho he had players doing the business for him and Rovers on £500/600!! Are you for real? There is no test for Darrel. Only progression, unlike Mr Trollope. The wage bill at rovers probably started spiralling out of control under Ian Holloway with the expensive players onboard at the time . I don't think I have ever called for any rovers managers head...ever. As for DC I'm not completely sure but I don't think I have criticised his team selection or tactics at all since day one. Did I say they never celebrated those games/seasons ?...no I didn't...I said they will not see them as highlights (of the clubs history). They will talk about cup finals, premier league wins or games ,European games and local derbies....I don't think playing at the mem will feature in the man city greatest moments. I also did not say his achievements (DC) were nothing I congratulated him . Rovers are now back to the starting line .....and the real test is how we do from now on. Do not confuse that with wanting DC to fail ...what would the logic in that be I want DC to achieve what I always wanted at the start of a league one (and other guises) season and that's to be challenging for the playoffs (or better if lucky). Which as a club that historically didn't get promoted to the championship very often was the natural level of expectancy.

This narrative about us only starting to go downhill when Lennie left is a bit simplistic and convenient in my opinion. We took some thrashings in Lennie's last season, 5-1 at home to Southampton, 5-1 at Norwich, 4-0 at home to Leeds, 5-0 at Orient, to name a few. We also went on a 6 game losing streak and ended the season with 5 losses and a draw from our last 6 games. It was hardly all wine and roses, and Higgs made the change probably because he was worried about a rot setting in. Maybe he made the wrong call and should have got rid of them both, but the way we also capitulated under Penney and Campbell gives a clue that the downturn was not purely down to Trolls' bad management. It ran deeper and uglier. Very few managers get to leave a club on their terms or in a good light. Trolls did well for us and I think he deserves another shot at management, 5 years on and having doubtless learned plenty from his time with us and in his coaching roles since.

I am afraid it would be a. Complete disaster if Mogadon got the Cardiff or any other managerial post. He seems to make an OK coach or assistant , just as long as there's a main man making the decisions. He was only successful when LL was in the background telling him what to do. He ultimately wanted Lawrence out so he could run the show, and once that happened we went through a slow decline. Do you think Lawrence would have allowed Brilliant, Disley to leave, or not replace Lambert when he left? People have said on here in hat if Mogadn had stayed we would have stayed up. Why? He'd taken us to a relegation position and had clearly run out of ideas. What did for us and hat season was the appointment of Penny. That really was a Higgs master stroke. I could'nt believe it when he was appoint d, he had been a disaster at Oldham and the culmination f to hat was a fight he'd had with his players at he races! THey bought that divisive influence into a dressing room full of player power and lasted a couple of months. We all know hat happened next, with that disloyal Captain Fantastic destroying the club from within. God, when I remember the club in that era it makes me shudder! What a load of tosh! For a start the period under Trollope was the most successful this club has had in some 20 years! Really no need to shudder about that... Second of all, it was not Trollope who wanted Lennie out at all, it was our fan base at the time who inexplicably decided that we did not need Lennie anymore and thus demanded he was sacked! Our fans cost us massively big time back then and I just pray that we have learnt our lesson from that time. We became restless and decided that mid table in league 1 was not good enough... few seasons later we were in the conference... Sometimes you really do get what you wish for..

This is how I remember it as well. Of course some of the heavy defeats were very poor and alarming, but ultimately the pairing of Trolls and Lennie got us from a position of League 2 strugglers to League One midtablers. The way some fans started getting restless and the chaos that followed very much reminded me of when Charlton parted with Curbishley back when they were upper mid table in the Prem. They got fed up, demanding more, and their return was a swift decline into League One. We suffered a similar fate after deciding to get rid of Lennie. Trolls did underperform in his last few months as boss, but he deserves more credit for the good he did at our club.

Yep obviously as one of the fans back then it was my fault that PT assembled a squad with only 5 defenders in it one of which was Carl 'i couldn't give a f**k' Regan and one of which was Tunnicliffe who I honestly think PT forgot was in the squad. It was also my decision when approaching 120 minutes and a penalty shoot out and having not used all our subs to leave our regular penalty taker sat on the bench (of course we lost the shoot out). So please accept my unreserved apologies it was all my fault evidenced by the fact PT couldn't make a choice on his own (evidenced by the little piece of paper he always showed LL before making a substitution). Has anyone any idea why this footballing genius, PT not me, not been given any managerial role since he left us?

Absolutely spot on, I recall some moaning about the football and openly refusing to attend matches until PT was gone. There are many who are seemingly never satisfied...........see threads from this year, which included one regarding DC being out of his depth, supported by a few but thankfully on this occasion just a very small minority. You just know that this miniority will be much larger if we dare to struggle or lose a few next season completely ignoring all the good.

Also, in response to Twerton Kid, the fact is you're missing the point. The early success was down to LL. He would have achieved that success with any half-decent coach to carry out his instructions. If you were to reverse the situation, and LL was the manager/coach -with Trollope as D o F, if the club sacked Trollope and left LL as manager, it is as likely as not we wouldn't have collapsed the way we did. As for the fans getting LL sacked, well that's what I would call a load of tosh. Were there demonstrations before and after home matches, with fans demanding LL's sacking, with the Directors cowering in box 1 and the Police having to move in to restore order? Were there consistent chants from large numbers of fans during matches demanding LL's sacking? Probably not. The only complaints about LL's role were a couple of dozen forum users who obviously didn't realise the managerial dynamic. LL was removed because Trollope wanted to run the show and the board saw it as a way of saving money. How much success, and much higher up in the leagues had Lawrence enjoyed before he came to us? FFS!

As somebody has already suggested LL & PT should have both been given the boot once they lost their way and a decent manager bought in as replacement.

Would not be happy about this if I was a Cardiff fan. PT for me is another one of those decent coaches rather than a manager.
PT and LL inherited a good bunch of lads, who they successfully galvanised on a run that would see us gate crash the playoffs and get promoted. As soon as they started to break up that squad and the spirit it held, the team started to fall apart. I can see PT struggling with the dressing room with Championship players, and the fans won't be kept onside for long with his tactics, which were hardly exciting. There was a reason our attendances were just as bad in league one as they were as when bottom of league two.
DC brings in players with the right personalities and uses that to our advantage, with tactics that are rarely cautious or boring. Trolls signed decent footballers but fails to keep the command and respect needed to get anywhere with them. An extreme example would be his first day at West Brom, where after trying to give Ben Foster a telling off for being late, was basically told "who the hell are you to have a go at me?"
Those talking up PT/LL's record in league one should remember how large the wage bill was to sustain that, and our gradual slip down the league.
