I dint know why we're getting so excited about all this. Over on One Turd, some financial expert, a self regarding prick who calls himself Charlie's Boots has been telling anyone who'll listen, that Wael has been unable to get the necessary financial backing and that, in fact, people at the various meetings were looking down at their feet and shuffling about in embarassment at his discomfort. So there you go, if you want to know the truth about our finances, visit the magnificent 233 page thread on One Turd where, amongst other things, you can read all about they don't mind being called Sh1!heads, and are happily telling each other if thats the best we can do then they have nothing to worry about. In fact, I think they are very worried. In fact, I think the Sh1!heads are, well, sh**ting themselves! Do you really think that they are sh**ting themselves ?...their 27,000 all covered all seated ground is nearly finished and Rovers new ground hasn't even started,I think that they are p1ssing themselves.
AG has always suffered from poor parking and its getting worse, but they now have buses to the stadium from various parts of Bristol and if it gets to bad I expect Lansdown would buy a piece of land and make it into a car park with shuttle buses.
That new stand at AG although its a blot on the landscape will be superb, I doubt that it will be used very often for the football as I think that football crowds will decline in the future ( all around the country ).
They are very concerned. Why else would hey have a 233 page thread where they constantly discuss our owners wealth, the club's prospects, their nervous assassination of DC, and all the while they are desperately assuring each other that they are the superior club with superior fans etc etc etc. The Arseholes were desperate for him to go to Leeds, and were devastated when he stayed. All this is classic symptoms of worry. One twat has even stated that he refuses to acknowledge that we won promotion via the penalty shoot out. So there you are, we have absolutely nothing to celebrate because we are actually still in the Conference.

The latest gem from our One Turd financial guru.....".Wael is looking down the back of the sofa fo 30 million quid. So far all he's found is a £15k watch"
Some other genius has responded with "He ought to ask to look down the back of our Steves sofa, he'd find enough for 2 stadiums"
I bet that if you looked down the back of the average Sh1!heads sofa all you'd find is his sisters/mums/ aunties/grans knickers, a couple of used condoms and numerous chips and pieces of pizza.

No idea why Wael doesn't just sell up as it's obvious we've lost the battle already!!! Regardless given the choice where would you hold a Conference to impress present & future customers, a re-vamped football stadium in middle of a run down part of S Bristol, or the state of the art sports, leisure & conference complex on a university complex, possibly with it's own hotel, next to a good road network and a nearby mainline station? I know which venue I would prefer to attend irrespective of which club I support. I understand the bias, of course I do. There are pros and cons with each location. I won't accept that ours will be so much better though on this forum because it's just not true. How about accepting the facts rather reposting things about selling up due to rival developments? Success of our facilities will be as much down to marketing as location. I haven't been, but I'd imagine the facilities at AG are pretty good and there are loads of businesses within 3 miles of AG not to mention SL is a pretty big player in town. Al-Qadi's Jordanian Bank bought out HSBC in the middle east I guess they know something about marketing, or at least how to recruit the right people. If NH/BB/TW were still running our marketing I'd agree with your concerns but we've surely moved on to a new era now. Regardless of which club you support I'm pretty certain if you wanted to organise a conference or wedding etc this side of Bristol then the UWE Staduim would be far more attractive than AG, assuming the catering/organisation were up to scratch.

Saying they're not worried doesn't make it so. The very fact they are constantly talking about us (almost as much as they talk about their own affairs!) tells us that they are clearly uncomfortable with how well we have closed the famous gap they so often refer to. So let them jibe and jape and speculate all they like, the more they do so the more obvious it becomes that they are panicking about the future. Now I have no idea what will happen anymore than anyone else but the fatties down in bemmie are wincing and as long as they keep talking about us they are just proving their beloved owner to be completely wrong... Also their stadium will look like a tiny patchwork quilt up to the uwe when its built #otibbait

All this talk of conferences and city already have facilities is garbage. There are facilities all over the city for conferences already. The cricket club have been doing it for years ,most large hotels do them including the one just down the road from the uwe. BRFC will just be offering another choice. Companies will choose the place that suits the size they need, the facilities they require and the cost they are prepared to pay. It would be like saying city have a 27,000 stadium and both clubs average crowd last season came to a combined 23,000 ish so there is no need for a second stadium.
Bristol's population has been growing which should have meant crowds should have increased by those same % .....but they have not been maybe if Manchester united open a stadium in Bristol for its academy to play at they could facilitate those missing % . A good reason why Bristol needs 2 decent stadiums offering higher level football and facilities , as that American style move the club (which has already had its baptism with Wimbledon/mk dons ) will happen if prem clubs get their academy teams in the football league. My bets for the future. Chelsea building a stadium in Bath and allowing bath city to use it along side their academy.

You are right about Conference facilities being available in other places all around the city, if anyone thinks that massive amounts of money are to be made from Conferences they can think again,as for having weddings in a football stadium well yes ardent fans might but I don't think that many people would want to,loads of hotels etc doing it already.
I agree that the Bristol area has had a population increase, but that's been happening for a long time and crowds haven't increased by the same percentage, why ? lots more choice of things to do in peoples leisure time now. Have a look around at the crowd at a football match and think of the average age of the people there, probably in their 50s,that doesn't have much of a future as the 'baby boomers' die off who replaces them ?. A lot of people who would watch a game at a sports bar would not attend a match, especially outside the Premier league, also the rise in population is down to immigration,Bristol has a comparatively big Somali Community there is also a large Asian community, but you don't see many at football matches. I think that crowds around the country will peak soon and then gradually dwindle, anyone who says that's rubbish needs to have a look at the way pubs have closed down over the last few years, many less pubs but a larger population, times have changed.

As an events coordinator in a venue in central Bristol, I have to say (and it may be biased), that the facilities at Ashton Gate don't stand out from the hundreds of other venues in Bristol, actually I thought the marketing was pretty dire!
Unfortunately, I think UWE maybe too far from central Bristol to entice the big companies to host conferences there. Either way it wouldn't be a big money maker for a business with wages in excess for 1.5 million.. Although a years worth of conferences may cover Mattys wages...
I'm eagerly waiting for this news on Monday..

If they didn't care and felt secure then maybe their forum would be like Stoke City's oatcake where there are no threads on Port Vale on the front page and they are barely mentioned. oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/board/2/stoke-city-fcAs an aside though there is a thread on there slamming the idea of Prem academy teams being allowed in the JPT just as much as it is being slammed on here.

What point you are trying to make as Rovers can hardly advertise they have the best Conference facilities in the area when they are clearly dire, Wael with his employment for Coventry City's FD and the ex Wembley chief clearly shows he knows how to get the right personnel in. Once the UWE is nearing completion I can see our advertising etc having a complete overall. Assuming the club confirms finance is now in place on Monday then people with a lot more knowledge than most of us must feel the plans for the new stadium are viable as they aren't going to knowing invest in a obvious loss maker.

It's how it should work....just means clubs have been lazy and relied on parents bringing their kids to create a new generation of fans, which means as family sizes shrink less and less get introduced to rovers. The smaller the proportion of football fans to the general population in the city the more insignificant it becomes. As mentioned by someone ,the rovers crowd (like many clubs) is a grey crowd .

Thanks for the links '79 - hopefully we shall be able to match their facilities and advertising in the not too distant future. Incidentally, after 6 pages of mostly "The Sh1!heads are obsessed with us* posts, the post after yours begins "The Sh1!heads are obsessed with us". Are we obsessed with the fact that they are obsessed with us?
