If he was keen to stay, he would surely have signed by now. If he does end up staying, it would be hard not to think that Rovers were just his fallback option, not his real choice. Can't quite see how this saga fits with only signing players who really want to be here He's played non-league for most of his careerer, I personally don't blame him for trying to get the best possible deal he can get. How old is he, 27? This is probably going to be the best contract he will sign in his careerer. He's just trying to do what's best for himself & his family, just like we all do. I can't blame him for doing so.

We have had better strikers than Taylor before, and we will have better than him in the future.
Of course he has every right to get the best deal for himself but I hope we are actively seeking replacements if its still up in the air.

He's a bit of a risk for a Championship club with only one Football League season in his career. Therefore I wouldn't expect anyone to offer him a long contract or mega-wages by Championship standards. On the other hand he can't expect us to pay Championship wages or to smash the wage structure at the club.
So he should sit tight, have another good year, gain valuable experience and get a really good salary and contract length offer from a big club next season.
That's my advice to you, young Matty. If you're reading.

IMO we have had much better forward players than Matty playing for the Gas in the past; however, this is the here and now and MT has done well for BRFC playing in the conference and div 1. SH said Matty would be giving Rovers a last and final opportunity to table an offer, I guess with DC returning to work today, that is what is happening at this moment. Personally, if Matty decides to leave Rovers to earn more money elsewhere (other than the S***) then best of luck to him. I just hope the matter is settled one way or another today.

Matty has got to do what's best for his family, DC has to do what's best for his team. If I was DC I'd give him until Friday to sign, failing which fire in a bid for top of the replacement wish list.

Most likely reason he is't training today is to meet DC and sort out if he's staying or going. I agree with RoverDrive, most likely he has been offered a really good deal elsewhere and is doing what he can to stay If he wanted to meet DC then he'd need to go to the training ground. That's where HE was this morning.

Can't believe people are slating Matty, "supporters" acting exactly the same as when it was DC.
Matty isn't a Rovers fan, which many Rovers fans need reminding. I've seen countless posts about how "We gave him a lot of time, other fans won't". No, the majority were slagging him off every week and it was DC who gave him the time he needed. People are under the impression Matty owes us, but he doesn't? We have gained two promotions and a lot of it is down to his goals. People should respect this is a hard decision for him at this time in his career, and he very much feels something about Rovers otherwise he would have gone already. I very much doubt there's much time left for him to make his decision, and DC will want it sorted by the end of the week but whatever his decision, he should have the respect and best wishes of every Rovers fan for helping to bring the club back from oblivion.

Didn't we say that last week? Surely MT knows what offers are on the table and we know how much we need to pay before he'll re-sign for us, why can't a decision be made now what difference will waiting until Friday make, unless as somebody else suggested we've come to an agreement with MT's new club that they won't announce his signing until we announce his replacement, perhaps it's Robson-Kanu (joke).

If Matty had gone or signed a pre-nupt weeks ago everyone - make that majority - would have said fair play, make your money you have no commitments here. Rather like most peoples jobs. Now a lot of people are getting wound up by the delay in HIS potentially life changing decision. In short regardless what is happening behind the scenes he's obviously giving us first refusal. Chapeau

Sigh, no news today then. Be nice if we had something else to talk about to be honest, trialists or whatever.

I don't see that it matters that he hasn't signed for anyone yet. If he needs s bit longer to tie up the right deal then so be it. There's over a month to go until the season starts.

I suppose technically no announcement is needed considering he's out of contract and so is no more tied to the club than I am. Would've been nice for a comment or update on the OS though as a curtosy. It's unlikely at this point anything is so sensitive or confidential it'd make one ounce of difference to his future.

What if DC does not have a clue what is going on as Matty and/or his agent has said nothing?

From the BP:
When will the future of Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor be decided? By JamesMcNamara | Posted: July 04, 2016
BRISTOL Rovers are unlikely to make an announcement on the future of striker Matty Taylor until Tuesday at the earliest.
Taylor has been the subject of several offers from elsewhere this summer after scoring 28 goals in League Two to become the highest scorer in England last season.
The out of contract striker has also been offered a "fair and competitive" offer to remain at the Memorial Stadium and has been taking his time to come to a decision on his future. Sources say that Taylor has agonised over whether to stay at or leave the Memorial Stadium for several weeks.
The striker has been going through the concrete offers he has received since returning from a holiday in France two weeks ago, but has remained tight-lipped on his future as he wanted to inform manager Darrell Clarke on his plans before speaking to anyone else.
Read more: Who is up to the job of replacing Matty Taylor if he leaves Bristol Rovers?
It is yet unknown as to whether the pair have been able to speak since Clarke returned from his honeymoon over the weekend, but Taylor was absent from the first day of pre-season at Cribbs Causeway on Monday and also did not take any part in fitness testing over.
Rovers' offer remains on the table and some clarification on the issue is expected to be forthcoming on Tuesday morning when Clarke conducts his first official press briefing at Cribbs Causeway since his side won promotion in May.

What if DC does not have a clue what is going on as Matty and/or his agent has said nothing? Can't see that for a second to be honest. He must have some idea. If MT or his agent have literally said NOTHING to DC, then why on earth would our contract still be on the table? That would be utterly, utterly disgusting behaviour and we should wipe our hands of him immediately. But as I say, I don't believe for one second that would be the case. They may not know his final decision - sure. But DC would surely have some idea what was going on.
