I think DC will keep a low profile in this transfer window simply because he knows every agent out there knows we've got money now. Smart move IMO. Go big next season.
what will be different next season? (assuming we are not back in L2)
Its amazing how short some peoples memories are - A lot of the hype that we have money would of died down and the newest sugar daddy on the block will be the stack of sh** the flies can swarm around.

I'm not any more convinced Taylor's leaving or staying than I was at the end of the season. No reason I would be . As supporters our job at this time of the season is to sit back relax and let the clubs agents and players do their negotiations. All this talk of telling him the offer no longer stands because he hasn't signed for anyone yet is crap. People need to chill out there's plenty of time during the 9 months of the season to be getting excited or irate.

It already has died down hasn't it?
I think hype would only kick up again if/when we start throwing money around, whenever that may be.

Yep we don't know any more really, but what DC saying this does, is create pressure on Taylor to make a decision either way.

Its weird how, given our success on the pitch over the last two years, some want big signings and all the rest of it.
Peterborough succeeded getting the best of non-league and lower league, many applauded them for it whilst we were spiraling down the leagues taking the opposite approach.
Many successful players in the couple of leagues below (maybe even more), no need to become fixated on 'big names' or under 21s from big clubs who probably aren't ready for the FL yet.

P'boro still paid relativity big money for those players though, Burton's & Walsall's model is seems the one we need replicate.

I know what you mean by replicating others but I hope we develop a "Bristol Rovers" way of doing it and I think DC is doing that. And that will be similar to how others (Burton, Bournemouth, Crewe perhaps) have done it, but it should be "our" way. UTG!

I thought the Simon Cox suggestion the Bristol Post put forward was a decent shout. Lost his way the last couple of seasons but if anyone can coax it back out of him it's DC and there's no doubting he's a decent player and has the benefit of being a proven goalscorer at this level.

Yeah, Peterborough have formed a bit of a reputation since the days of Mackail-Smith and Aaron McClean, they are very good at selling for the optimum price. Whilst they pay big fees, I'd imagine they still make a profit from transfers... Burton and Walsall absolutely show that you can take a similar recruitment structure to our own and be successful with it. For every City or Wigan buying the league there are clubs who are more prudent and compete.

According to someone on the Grimsby fans forum Reuben Reid has failed a medical at two clubs. They are saying Notts Co and us. Anyone heard anything? Or are they plain wrong?

I was hoping we would take advantage of the FFP rule for new league entrants which means for the first 2 years we can spent a higher proportion of our turnover than the rest of L1. We have an advantage over all L1 clubs for players wages, but only for this season, then it will level with everyone else next year. You don't want to get in the position of players and agents taking the p**s as they did before, but we need more quality in this league whereas L2 is similar to the top end of the conference so wasn't as much of an issue. Other than that it would be replying on DC to pull some free gems out of his hat, but sometimes you have to pay the price for quality. So give players big one year contacts, that's throwing money away! If your going to sign a player on higher wages than we are paying now, us and them would want it to be a minimum of a 2 year deal. So we would fail FFP next season. How would our current squad feel about a few players coming in on higher wages than then, what would that do for our fantastic team spirit??

I didn't mention 1 year contracts, anyone decent would have 2 years minimum like most of L1 teams are offering at the moment. It doesn't mean we are 'going back to the dark days' The players aren't all stupid, they will know that with progression will bring new faces to keep up with the standard we find ourselves in. They have all been rewarded and are happy with their own contracts. Team spirit is probably good at all clubs, its what happens when a group of players spend a lot of time together. The players accepted Gaffney when he started scoring goals and winning matches and urging him to sign on social media. As I said before i'd be happy to tread water in L1 for now, you only need to spend big in L1 to aim for Championship football and I dont think we are ready for that now. I'd be interested to know if we offered Taylor a new contract during last season, you don't see many 25+ goalscorers available on a free. Ridiculous that we wont get any fee for him.

Yeah that is a waterer I'm assuming he was offered an extension during last season and he declined but if it turns out he wasn't that would be water poor management and could cost us loads of money in the long run!

I'm fairly sure I saw somewhere we offered him a deal in the January window to ward off other clubs. He rejected that and said he would decide at end of season. Personally, I see where he is coming from - why would you leave a place where you are at the top of your game and well liked? However, if he thinks his ability is good enough for something bigger, then why not have a go? 1 average/crap season now and his value goes down. I guess he is trying to get the best he can at probably the best time in his career?
That said, I would hazard a guess that the other offers are not that great and he is still trying to up them a bit. His biggest problem is DC - he won't (as stated yesterday) hang around and wait. You are either in or out, and if the right person becomes available and DC snaps them up, Taylor will be gone.

Looking at it another way what was the point of getting excited about Al-Qadi's taking us over if we are only ever going to live within our means?
