I don't get how fans can say they are v. happy etc with this signing when he's done little since he left Hartlepool, and was sent home early from his last year long loan spell at Bradford. One of those signings we'll need to see play before we can really draw any judgements, hopefully he's come in to replace McBurnie/Fallon rather than MT. Very happy based on what I've seen of him previously. Can't say anymore than that.

DC says James' best position is "off the shoulder of a striker".
Does that mean, a striker with his back to goal - so James would be right up top trying to get in behind the defence etc.
Or a striker facing goal - so James is an attacking midfielder/no.10? (I.e not a Taylor replacement)

Very clever signing IMO. The potential is there and DC is the right man to make the most of that ability.

I always thought an "off the shoulder striker" is someone who stands alongside the opposition defenders and looks to get in behind and beat the offside trap. Not 100% though

2 goals in his last 61 matches isnt great though Sounds like he has been played out of position, still young too. If DC can get him playing in his fsvoured position and put his arm round him then who knows. It reminds me of Matty Taylor signing in someways. He was being played on the wing too, at FGR. lets hope he can get his career back on track with us

Don't forget about the new beginning thread!! I called it right, straight from the start!!! If my memory serves me correctly (and it usually does), you were pretty much the only person who believed Gasinciders rumours. Everyone else doubted him but you stood by his side right from the beginning. Even in the darkest hours you stood up for him and backed the information he was providing. Respect. Tick tock.

Beat me to it, exactly what I was about to type. I take it RoverDrive is being massively sarcastic, we really need a sarcasm font.

What a interesting signing....a season long loan! Why not just buy him!!! I'd agree if he was available on a free, but I'd imagine the Posh would want a fee for a transfer? He attracted a significant transfer fee when moving from Hartlepool to Peterborough - reportedly a record for Hartlepool.

I thought MT was an "off the shoulder striker"? Can someone confirm what OTS means?? I think players like Taylor and Cureton are described as 'off the shoulder of the last defender' strikers. Which makes me think that someone who plays 'off the shoulder of a striker' plays in 'the hole' (ooh err) behind a striker?

What a interesting signing....a season long loan! Why not just buy him!!! Wages possibly too high? Also motivation for him to earn a long term deal here.

No reason the kid can't fulfil his huge potential with us.
A couple of early goals and his confidence will come flooding back. UTG

I thought clubs could only demand a fee for a young player if they'd offered the player a new contract on similar terms to their present contract, if they've just released them how can they demand a fee. I doubt we could demand one if Kiran Preston signs for another club.

Don't know about his quality but it looks ok but this is exactly the right type of signing for us. We need to sign players on their way up, not those looking for a final good pay day. He's young but over 150 games and with a point to prove after a few indifferent seasons. With the likes of Macca, Mansell, Lee Brown and Sinclair around him and others he could do very well. Coming into a strong squad with strong characters should help him if he comes with the right attitude. DCs guidance and MSs work with attackers could help him a lot and DC already knows where he will play. UTG!

Which makes me think that someone who plays 'off the shoulder of a striker' plays in 'the hole' (ooh err) behind a striker? The greatest 'advanced strikers' These strikers specialise in playing 'off the shoulder' of the last defender, making well-timed runs onto incisive through balls and beating the offside trap (although these players may often be frequently caught off-side during a game). They will principally use their pace to get into goalscoring positions, and also tend to have great dribbling ability. Their finishing is excellent and they can score from many angles outside the box. They are also great in one-on-ones with the keeper. Sometimes these players can be positioned (or drift) wide, coming inside to attack the goal (i.e. Thierry Henry). These players tend to work best when combined with centre forwards or second strikers.
