I think Gaffers is good for 10-15 a season.
If we get a partner that can do the same we won't miss a single 25 goal striker as much.

Peterborough fan at work - Bought as a goal scorer for big money but never really happened (supposedly home sick) - Pushed out to the wing but can cross a decent ball - Even when not scoring always a solid 7-8/10 performance (doesn't stop running). - Like him as a player, definely got potential If he was home sick in P'boro then why move even further from his north east home? 1 goal in 20 games for Hartlepool in Div 2 last season is hardly a great record for a striker and now he's moved up a season, if MT moves on you do wonder where the goals are going to come from as Gaffney is hardly a prolific goal scorer. I think (hope?) that the off season will have done wonders for Gaffney. Did well when he came on loan, loan, so good after. That might have been as he was feeling a bit of pressure to keep it going. Now it's a new season, pre season to get his confidence up then I hope we'll be OK.

I'd agree if he was available on a free, but I'd imagine the Posh would want a fee for a transfer? He attracted a significant transfer fee when moving from Hartlepool to Peterborough - reportedly a record for Hartlepool. I thought clubs could only demand a fee for a young player if they'd offered the player a new contract on similar terms to their present contract, if they've just released them how can they demand a fee. I doubt we could demand one if Kiran Preston signs for another club. Peterborough have not released Luke. I guess my point is that Peterborough paid a lot for Luke James and he is still contracted to them. Despite him not commanding a first team place, they would only want to let him go for a fee, but are happy to loan him to offset the wages. He was 20 yrs old when sold to the Posh, so I don't think any of the young player/ tribunal / etc. applied to him.

Gaffers long throw to the new centre half from Muff'will be an extra ploy.He has a good record from scoring with headers even as a defender which Tom Parkes sadly didn't.

It seems LJ was signed on a 4 year deal in 2014, given he's moved to us with a view to a permanent deal next summer then you have to assume they just want him off the books, as I doubt we're going to be paying a transfer fee next summer.

It will be interesting to see how Luke James gets on . Could he follow in the footsteps of Taylor and bodin and increase his goal tally ,even the less successful strikers at rovers got 8 or 9 even blisset went on to score at torquay. Are we going through a spell of having good attacking players OR do we actually have a good coaching set up that if a player works hard they can improve their striking abilities. If the latter then the coaching set up is our top asset ,which may attract players to the club over the coming years.

I've said it before but in the last 15 years of watching Rovers we've managed to develop strikers that have gone on to play in the championship and premier league numerous times. Very few Rovers defenders or midfielders have left us for greater things. There's something about the Mem and a great scorer. Lethal combination. Add to that DC and Stewie coaching magic- if the lad works hard he's got a chance.

People are going on about his lack of goals - but he kept being put on the pitch by a variety of managers, so he's no mug clearly.

I'm glad people are slagging him off.
If they weren't, I'd question DC. As it is, the moaners convince me DC has got it right once again.

Who the heck are you to question the quality of DC's purchases after back-to-back promotions on a fairly tight budget? Gaffney has had less than a season with us (and wasn't even a regular at CU). Good grief if you're that moany, jog over to Trashton.
