People are going on about his lack of goals - but he kept being put on the pitch by a variety of managers, so he's no mug clearly. Ahh yes but you are forgetting that it's tradition on this forum to write a player off before he even plays ! Or the exact opposite, evidently.

As with all signings I'm quite happy to see how he does before I say I'm overwhelmed, underwhelmed, good signing, bad signing etc. Welcome to Rovers Luke.

I'm just excited for this signing because the name Luke James fits nicely into the Will Grigg chant.
Hopefully he will be terrifying League 1 defences.

I think (hope?) that the off season will have done wonders for Gaffney. Did well when he came on loan, loan, so good after. That might have been as he was feeling a bit of pressure to keep it going. Now it's a new season, pre season to get his confidence up then I hope we'll be OK. Topper Gas, never failing to pull out a negative from any situation. Who the heck are you to question the quality of DC's purchases after back-to-back promotions on a fairly tight budget? Gaffney has had less than a season with us (and wasn't even a regular at CU). Good grief if you're that moany, jog over to Trashton. So where do you feel our goals are going to come from if MT moves on, BB & MT are DC's only signings who've scored regularly last season, so it's not as if he has a brilliant record of finding goalscorers there's a long list of failures, White, Blissett, Cunnington, Fallon to name a few. LJ looks like a long term project to me not somebody who will come in this season and get us 20 goals.

I wouldn't call Cunnington a failure at all - he scored goals and I and many other Gasheads rated him. Blissett did a job and scored a few goals in his first dozen appearances, and he played his part in us going up (but we as a club progressed too quickly for him). Fallon was a stop-gap, nothing more - we were hardly reliant on him coming in and making an impact in the slightest. White didn't work out and DC quickly spotted that and moved him on - it happens.

What a lot of nonsense at times on here. We will not be signing a 20 goal a season striker full stop. We NEVER have. We sign strikers and develop them , then some succeed and some fail.
We have never spent £500k plus so we have never bought a confirmed 20 goal a season man. If DC can develop our strike force with the same success he had with BB etc, then LJ and BB will become more than enough. Then if we can finally get the enigma that is Ellis to show what I am certain he is capable of, then goal scoring will not be a problem. Not to mention Gaffney, who I feel could become another little gem.

Lambo scored 22 in his last season with Rochdale. Apart from him I'm thinking John Taylor from Cambridge, albeit in a swap for Bruno, but he was certainly proven. Can't think of any in the middle but I'm sure someone will come up with a name - My memory is awful!

Agogo scored 19 for Barnet in the Conference the season before we bought him. Nearly 20!

Did we pay £100,000 in the end for the Duke ?

I think DC has a great set of forwards now and we should see plenty of goals. I would like to see some back up at full back and someone to do the ball winning in midfield.

Matty Taylor is not a guaranteed 20 goal man anyway. He has done well for us in the conference and lg2. If the side struggles with the step up, any striker would do well to hit as many goals.
Wow, not so long ago Taylor and barn door were in the same sentence on here!

Perhaps the GAS brings the best out of Matt Taylor and this may be the case for his replacement if of course Matty leaves hopefully we will know soon enough!!
