I really like the comments where people say "He's a manager, and your just a fan". I don't know why but it tickles me every time.
It means, I have no debate left so I'm going to state a point which cannot be argued with!
The managers recruitment of player has many more facets than a supporters wish for a player... We just want someone who is good, primarily. We often will have no idea on the character, minor injury history, financial aspect, other players recommendations, fitness/form, personal circumstances, etc etc.

well moore signed a 2 year deal with us and has played nearly 300 mostly league one games so i think dc is hoping he will be a regular. we differ in that i think we need to give the present team a chance and you would rather replace 5 or 6 of them from game 1,it will be interesting to see who is right. Where have I said I would rather replace 5 or 6 of them? I have not said that. What I have said is that of the three signings we've made, IMO only of them is certain to start (Hartley) and one may start (Moore). Luke James is likely IMO to be backup. On top of that, Hartley was in L2 last season (in a team that finished below us) and Moore was relegated from the league we are in now. I'm not saying that they won't be good players (as DC has proved time and time again he can improve players), but the ENTIRE POINT of this thread was to say that I've obviously raised my expectations too high. With our chairman's rumoured wealth, whilst I didn't expect us to go out and spend a million quid, I did expect us to spend some money - at least £50k and maybe £100k-£250k overall. I rate our boys, I really do; I just think it's unbelievably naive to think that a team of players who were non-league players 2 years ago cannot be bettered at L1 level. For me, the bulk of the team is fine, but IMO CM and GK can definitely be (quite easily) improved if there really is money available. DC is an incredibly smart and talented manager and I very much doubt he doesn't see that too. As such, I will have to assume that if we fail to strengthen in those areas by the end of August, it will be because the funds aren't available, rather than him being unable to find better out there. Again, this is just my opinion. moore was at port vale who finished below half way but were not relegated,,the team are not conference players now they are league 1 players how they perform remains to be seen. moore has played nearly 300 games mostly in league 1 so surely he fits the bill for the type of signings your keen on? i think moore and hartley will start if fit on saturday,i partly think james was signed in case taylor didnt sign his new contract. i think by the end of august dc will hope to add 1 or 2 players depending on what the team performs like as well as move some out on loan. im not sure its that important to be paying transfer fees for players at this level is such a good idea myself. i think the best signings are the players we managed to keep leadbitter brown lockyer bodin and taylor but we will find out soon enough.

I'm not sure why so many fans are hung up about getting a GK as Mildenhall was fine last season, assuming he can keep that form going then there's nothing to say a goalie DC brings in will do any better, Nicholls who has joined signed for MK Dons being a good example. Likewise when did we last have CM's better than Lines/Mansell/Sinclair?

Do you know what! After 2 seasons I'm quite happy to leave it to DC. I got other things to do without stressing over who we should or shouldn't sign.

TBH i'm quite happy to start the season with the players we have,i'm sure they will as always give 100% and then lets see where we are after 6 or so games.Think a few of our lads will surprise ....UTG As long as the kettle is still under warranty and it's agent is not trying to get a move away, we'll be fine. if it could put in a transfer request, would it move to 'Leads'? As previously stated on other threads The Kettle has a lifetime contract with The Gas and so has it's owner .....UTG

We have a lot of options up front, and haven't worked out why Muzzy was watching us?
Looks like Towell is hoping for a chance at Brighton but seems eager to just play games. May be a good long term loan shout?
Richie Towell

Although you didn't answer the question as to when we last a midfield better than those three. I doubt our Div 1 team of Campbell & Lines was any better, so you have to go back to Holloways Mauge & (?) midfield.

Younger fans may not appreciate that

Think Brighton have washed their hands of him.

DC says he will be bringing in 3 or 4 regardless of the performance on Saturday. Personally cannot wait, leaving BS31 at 7 a.m.; if we are honest, we all know the boys did great to get promoted last term, but we currently need a bit more quality and experience at div 1 level. For me a goalkeeper is a must, a player in the middle in the mode of Ollie in his pomp and definitely a winger with a trick and pace who can beat the full back and deliver a quality ball into the box.

How many of our squad are non league players? Why bother with half of the threads on a public footy forum at all? Did we miss Monkhouse?

What when we have so many 'experts' on this forum who know better than the man who took non league players and moulded them into a promotion team - twice! Where is anyone saying he doesn't know better? My original question in this thread was more directed at our new owners. I've no doubt DC wants to strengthen the squad and I'm absolutely sure he realises we could be stronger in CM and GK but I'm simply wondering whether or not we really do have the financial clout that many of us assumed we did when the new BoD took over. Seems you can't say anything about our new owners, chairman et al without getting your words twisted, deemed negative or an armchair "expert". F**king pointless posting in reality.

So fed up of this place at that moment. Literally no debate, literally no controversial opinions - agree with everything the BoD and chairman do or f**k off basically. What I'd give even for tbone to call Mattee useless or DC clueless.

What I'd give even for tbone to call Mattee useless or DC clueless. I was going to say that I think you're a Special lady garden but then I realised that's not controversial either... Joking aside; I know what you're saying but I think a lot of us on here have stressed and worried for so long that now we've got a semblance of credibility back of house, and a very, very sharp young manager out front we're happy to allow them a bit of blind faith and just keep believing that things will happen as they should. For myself, I imagine that I will revert to type ('feet-firmly-on-the-ground-not-getting-my-hopes-up-ever' optimistic pessimism) after our first loss, but until then I'm happy to let WAQ & SH worry about off the pitch matters, and I'm more than happy to let DC keep doing what he does. I think that probably goes some way to explaining the lack of debate, and while I don't think that any so-called naysayer should be hounded for having a different opinion, there are definitely some on here who have taken things as they have been under the new regime as a personal affront - not to mention those who clearly love a moan for moan's sake! As soon as the football starts things should pick back up, off-season is always sh*te. You've made it this far, don't lose it now!
