DC has had his fair share of criticism on here this year. I just want to highlight what I see as brilliant management in getting the best out of our players.
He has brought in Roberts, Boateng and Colkett, along with Clarke-Salter to come, who all arguably have technical quality to improve our team, but he has used their arrivals as a challenge to get even more out of the existing players at the club, and it is working. On Tuesday and today, none of those players started. A combination of 9 players from our conference squad have started at least one of the two games; 7 started on Tuesday and 8 today. Amazing that he has taken these players this far and that they are still coming up with the answers. I'm sure that our loan signings will be very important to us at stages this year, but their presence alone is kicking our players on. Well done, DC and the lads. I can't wait to see what they are capable of over the rest of the season as they continue to surprise and excel, regardless of the level.

Annoys me when people refer to our squad as a conference squad at present. (Not aimed at you, you haven't done so in your post)!
The squad have proved their level at League 2 at the bare minimum, and are doing so in League 1 at the minute. We have players who aren't the best in their positions in the league, and probably not close to being so except for Taylor, but they all fight for the shirt, give their all, and work together.
DC & Co have really gave us something to be proud off.

i love dc and dread the day when he leaves to manage cardiff city or derby county. he has created this situation where everyone feels a part of the team and nobody knows if they will be in the team in the next game although he usually selects tom lockyer and lee brown. he makes mistakes but we have a fit team that never knows when there beat and the players seem to love each other and help each other while also competing against each other for places.

Love DC to bits, but he still began today's game with the wrong shape. He then has to use two out of three subs to correct it later in the game.
We have to play with width. Port Vale were woeful, but yet again we concede first, albeit this time it was a bit of a fluke. But you could se a goal coming.

Love how when interviewed,DC begins sentences with,'Yes No'. Sometimes though,'No Yes'.Think we have an impressive coaching staff and DC leads his team splendidly.New Guy ex Torquay now with the U 21's a good addition so let's keep on progressing.Tough challenges coming up but Bramall Lane is a somewhat more exciting prospect than Alfreton.

But you could se a goal coming. its only the wrong shape in hindsight though,at times we have looked undermanned in midfield with a standard 4-4-2 so today he tried a narrow diamond midfield and in truth it didnt quite work so he introduced a normal 4-4-2 with wingers. port vale were not great but they worked out our diamond shape and exploited it to there gain today. if you look at the dc period it mostly involves dominating 2nd halves of games with fitness and good use of subs. you could argue dc dosnt get it right from the start or dc uses subs to brilliant effect,i lean towards the 2nd option.

although he usually selects tom lockyer and lee brown. This is a fair point although Tom Lockyer had to earn it during the conference season when he was played out of position and sometimes not at all. He does appear to be a pretty permanent fixture now though.

Mercifully the conference season already seems like a lifetime ago!

We won the match, limited PV to only one clear change..and that was an unlucky deflection, dominated the majority of the game apart from the 10-15 mins after the goal, and probably could have have won by 3 or 4 in the end. So clearly DC got it spot on again........but of course you know best and we had the wrong shape from the start......tell me how do you know what the correct shape should have been, and can you guarantee we would have won the match if we had started with this 'correct' shape?? I recall on this forum a number of people berating John Ward and others because they had no plan B............now if DC changes things through the match...which he does so well, he is critiscised for not starting with this formation.

Spot on tinner. The self-proclaimed experts assume that changes are made just to rectify mistakes in selection. They don't seem to get that changes are part of the original plan. Presumably they would always finish games with the same 11 that started.

DC ? Is that you ? ........ Nope just somebody who understands football and is happy to defend the only manager in our 100 year odd history to gain B2B promotions, and is doing a great job. Don't tell me despite us winning well yesterday you would rather we had started with a different formation???

I'm clearly not worthy to debate with you as your knowledge of football is on a different level to mine and others on here , DC is a football god who doesn't make mistakes and anyone who dares question him knows nothing about football. I'm sorry for replying to your post sir , I'm not worthy.

He filled in at LB when Brown was injured and at CM when Mansell was suspended.

Across the football world its quite a common practice to play inexperienced centre backs in a full back position. To help them gain experience but not be in a position where a mistake can be critical. Don't be surprised if the young lad from chelsea plays at full back.

Apart from, I think, the Walsall game (where Etheridge played a blinder) in every match DC's had to change formation to grind out a result in the second half, so you do have wonder what would be the outcome if we started 4-4-2 every home game rather than mess about with odd formations every home game before reverting to 4-4-2. Although nobody is really criticising DC but just putting forward their own views, which surely it what the forums all about?
