last season i said in a weird post before the season started "we will get promoted" now im saying we will at least be in the play-offs. there is something about our manager and group of players that is impossible to work out ie just how far can they go ?? well ive had a look at us and we will be in the play-offs at least in my opinion. any thoughts?

I actually share your optimism. I don't think we have much to fear in this league and this squad are well capable of a playoff place, if they can just stop giving away silly goals

From what I've seen so far of league 1 we are definitely in the top half and could possibly be in the top 6 best teams. Long way to go yet though.

We're one place off the Play Offs having had a difficult run of games to start the season, why wouldn't any Gashead think we couldn't make the Play Offs?
Whether we do or not, or do even better, is far too early to speculate on as anything could happen, given we almost lost DC & MT in the summer. I just wish DC would keep the side he finishes a game with for once!

Early days but why not?
One thing that is interesting is that people seem surprised at how well we're doing and talk as if the squad is the same one as it was in the conference.
Only 8 of the 18 man squad yesterday played for us in the conference and 11 in league 2. There's been no whole sale changes but the manager has kept the squad fresh and introduced players slowly to improve the squad while retaining those who are making the step up.
I think that's the foundation of our success, a together squad which is never disrupted. All playing for one another and knowing how each other operate. No egos, no one player is better than the team. Long may it continue!

Have to disagree. We won't be in the playoffs, we're going up automatically

Sometimes certain managers are just good fits for certain team, Ediie Howe at Bournemouth for example. It seems that Darrel Clark is a good fit for us, in fact all the way through the club things seem to be fitting together nicely. We have an owner who really seems to get us, and seems to have a good rapport with the manager and we have got a group of players we can finally be proud of. I hate to jump the gun but I have to agree with the optimists, I see no reason why we can't finish top six. The difference now, compared to say the Trollope era, is that we are often the better side, I always felt before we were just squeaking games but now we are actually outplaying the opposition. You sometimes have to pinch yourself to realise it's happening but its a great feeling.

This is the benefit of the tinkering approach. In a normal rovers situation the fans and players get used to the same 13 or maybe 14 players starting games week in week out...and whilst there may be positives to this...the positives of playing the tinkerman way are...
No complacency in the squad. Encourages more collective goals as everyone is involved. Makes it more of an issue for opposing teams to get briefs on who and how the team will play. Everyone becomes accustomed to many many players, in the normal setup if a regular is injured or suspended it's oh no how will the team cope hope we don't lose this game mentality. In the tinkerman approach all players are familiar so an injury or suspension means very little to the psychology of players or fans. Most teams in this league have 11 first team players,7 substitute players and a fair few fringe and inexperienced youth players.DC has 20+ first team players and some inexperienced youth players.Across a season that gives BRFC a big advantage. Substitutes at BRFC are not seen as weakening the first team through necessity due to tiredness or injury ,they are seen as continuing the effectiveness of the team or improving it.
People groan at the..oh another 3 or 5 or whatever changes but seriously on the bigger picture what has that approach achieved ? Two promotions and currently a squad sitting in a very comfortable league position so far. Don't take for granted how difficult it can be first season after promotion look how BCFC struggled to stay in the championship last season desperately trying to stay out of the relegation zone all season.
Where will BRFC finish the season ?..who knows . What I do know is that a relegated team generally gets about one point a game on average and it's said 50 pts will be enough to stay up on average seasons. One point a game..or relegation form from now on....will see BRFC end the season on 51pts. So theoretically BRFC are almost safe from relegation already .

If you look at the table, we have played 4 of the top 5 away from home already, which makes being 7th at this stage even more impressive!! We seem to have decent cover for every position now and can play s number of different formations. We also seem to improve every year as the season goes on, think we start slow as DC works them hard during pre season, but then we see the benefits a month or 2 info the season. Things are certainly looking good.

Whilst his tinkering still annoys me i think predictions of play offs are starting to gain substance. This league isn't as tough as i thought it would be, also players i thought wouldn't be good enough for this division have pleasantly surprised me, although Bodin has been a disappointment and lockyer has struggled somewhat. Finally the additions are starting to show their worth, hartley for all his faults could get 10 valuable goals and is commanding when playing against a big man, Moore looks a quality act and the club deserve enormous credit for securing the services for a year of what could be two future England internationals. Just need a positive uwe announcement and it's roses all round!!

He must have played 2 games every week nearly, since the season started. Now Clarke Salter is fit, might see him and Hartley for a game or two. No one should be guaranteed a place, for some reason he hasn't played to his normal high standard.

Yes we have massive strength in depth and in every position, very pleasing to see gaffney was back to his best yesterday after struggling so far. Interesting that boatang who sheff utd fans think they should sign in jan didn't even make the bench yesterday, that's how strong this squad is looking now.

There is a reason we have such a good team spirit/mentality, and with such a big squad of first team standard players, and that is how DC does things. And he gets results, from those same players that struggled at the start of the season in the Conference. Or in Bodin, Moore, Gaffney etc cases players that struggled at other clubs. So much of how a team performs at these levels is organisation and team effort/mentality, because many teams don't have the consistency and will go missing in certain games (such as many of ours since 2001). Considering where we were three years ago, and what we could of ended up with, we are so lucky to have the current board and management, we have hit the jackpot. I may disagree at times, but it's great to trust them with the decisions knowing they will get most right. Onwards and upwards

Without getting too carried away, how nice would it be for our last season at the Mem to be in the Championship - our first there.

Towards the end of both seasons he does begin to settle the team- particularly at home.
I think the deal keeps everyone involved it means should we suffer injuries or suspensions- replacements aren't so much stiff debuties, but first teamers- who'll have started at least 10 games or so.
But by the end of the season- he keeps it going simply because it's the business end.

I'm looking forward to a match where colkett, Moore and Taylor all start together. I was shocked we had a midfield of Moore Colkett Lines Bodin in the latter stages yesterday.. but pleasantly suprised. I do wish we would go out at times from the start like the second half yesterday, but easier said than done. A mindset thing maybe.

Onwards and upwards It does concern me though that we may be doing a little too well to early in the season. With teams like derby and villa struggling in the championship ,would DC or the club be able to resist their knocking on the door ? I hope DC sees the off the field improvements with staff, facilities and a new stadium being closer ,alongside a squad he has built and a fan base and board that'get' his way of doing things as enough to continue the project. That the prospect of starting from scratch at a new club which has problems ,disgruntled fans and maybe not the tolerance for him to set in place his methods. As a reason not to be tempted away.
