Compared to others on this page I haven't been following the Gas as long, however coming up to my 10th year, without doubt the last 2/3 have been amazing and nothing short of a dream given how most of the previous 7 went.
I have spent all 9 3/4 of those years on the blackthorn terrace and IMO in terms of atmosphere it is worse than it ever has been, even worse than the Buckle years. It amazes me that the club is arguably at it's best for decades, yet the songs & numbers trying to generate an atmosphere is minute and nothing short of shameful. Tuesday wasn't as bad but on Saturday when we needed that lift trying to go for the winner it was silent all around.
I know the opinions on here ' If you want an atmosphere you gotta make one' and that is exactly what I tried, I stood at the back of the terrace behind the goal and when I started belting our Rovers to the tune of hey Jude, nothing but awkward stares and groups of young teenage lads just laughing at me.
I do think if it continues to deter then something will need to change (JUST NOT A DRUM). I'd like to think it wouldn't be hard for the younger boys to organise something on Facebook/twitter. What's the opinion on here?

It was something I noticed at the playoff final; the Grimsby fans had a much greater variety of songs/chants than us. You can only sing Irene and Come on You Blues so many times in a game.

Its been poor for years mainly due to the club banning a lot of people.

I don't think the current volume and poor quality of the tannoy helps - you can't outshout it, impossible to get an atmosphere going before kickoff.

Our fans at home are not very good at generating an atmosphere. it's loud for 10 minutes at the beginning, if we score and at the end. There is a lack of togetherness within our fanbase which manifests on here and I'm not suprised people were staring and laughing. They'd rather do that than join in or have a laugh.

I was in the "away terrace" on Tuesday and was surprised how loud the ground was!! Its actually louder in there than it is when you are closer to the Thatchers terrace, I guess this must be to some tunneling affect to the sound. I'd be pretty impressed if i was an away fan. But in between noise there were periods of relative quiet. Whatever happened to "the gas are going up, and now you're going to believe us"? Use to love this at Twerton, come on singer generator persons, sort it out!

Well I didn't hear you, so you obviously weren't loud enough!

North end attendance is up a thousand or so, so prob take a few games for newer crowd to settle in. I only sing if the people around me do, but i stand in the corner.
Like others have said tho, a lot of nutters have been banned unfortunately.
Need to see a younger crowd in the north end tho, worried that the average age must be creeping up.

The middle is full of 13-18 year old football factory wannabes who sing songs 10x too fast

Most visiting managers report how intimidating the atmosphere is at the Mem, so we must be doing something right. Happy also that there are some new songs emerging. I'm not sure I agree with the comment above about needing a younger crowd, we've got plenty of 40-50 somethings that still sing, especially the group to the West side of the Thatchers End that give a good rendition of some of the older songs from the Tote end. Older voices add a bit of bass, which tends to sound more threatening than a bunch of pre-pubescent teenagers anyway.

That's for sure. We are not so good at getting behind the team unconditionally though. The away fans seem to be better at this.

In the days of the Tote End, everyone knew three or four verses of Irene, now we only seem to get the chorus.

For some reason it does seem that the bigger the crowd the worse the atmosphere.
