Firstly, I prescribe to thoughts that for our first season in league one we are doing fantastically. To be within a point of the playoffs is a brilliant achievement albeit having played a game more.
However - we all now must kick on and target another 12 wins for the 20 games left. A return that should see us in those playoff positions.
We have 9 home games left. With some tough teams to come- but should our home form last out we have a fantastic chance. We travel to some clubs that aren't as well placed in the league. We have the experience of 'the run in' and understand what's needed.
A playoff sneak would be an unbelievable achievement.

At this point I'm happy to get over the 50 point mark to guarantee safety.
A playoff push would be nice, but like you said we've got some tough games coming up.

At this point I'm happy to get over the 50 point mark to guarantee safety. A playoff push would be nice, but like you said we've got some tough games coming up. From our current position that only represents marginally over half a point a game, which is far from ambitious and requires merely 3 wins and a draw. Were far more capable than that and whilst we may not be as good as we'd like to think we are, the doom mongerers were shown up by the performance yesterday and the Charlton game and our current away form shown to represent blips. How many other teams are consistently putting in an average of 3-4 goals a game at home? we should be looking up the table and using our strong starting point as an opportunity. We've had half a season to embed ourselves in league one and learn what it's about. With a few January improvement systems which it seems like Darrell will be making (despite what the doom monger would have you believe) the next 4 months will get very interesting.

I said a few weeks ago that if we keep using wide men and find the screen defensive midfielder to play alongside lines we can make top 6 and lately we've had that and are looking good. We do need cover out wide though. I'm not convinced by Moore or Lawrence and with a couple of injuries we could find ourselves in the diamond or 3-5-2 again.

Pretty much would all depend on February, come through that unscathed and its a fairly decent run to the end.
Can't see it myself, inconsistency means we'll struggle to break that top 6. Which is still well above my expectations for the season!

Is it just me that thinks promotion would potentially be a disaster and at least a year too early?

Is it just me that thinks promotion would potentially be a disaster and at least a year too early? I don't know whether it is just you or not but I disagree with you. You have to take the opportunity when it comes along because there is no guarantee that it will come along the next season or the next or ever. Look at Accrington, missed out on promotion last year, battling relegation this. Equally Wimbledon got promoted, last season, favourites to go dow5 but comfortably mid table.

If it's there we have to go for it, would be pointless spending money to try and achieve it whilst the stadium isn't there but if this group of players can achieve it with maybe a signing or two why not? Burton are surviving and Brentford do ok with a similar sized ground. Would guarantee a sell out at the mem every game in the championship and put the pressure on to get the stadium sorted.

Is it just me that thinks promotion would potentially be a disaster and at least a year too early? Get what you mean, we don't have the infrastructure at the moment. But tbh you could argue that promotion is 4/5 years too soon. Clearly we need a ground for the level above. But I can't wait till all things are perfect. I wanna see my team as high as possible as soon as possible.

I get what you mean, it would be a shame to get d1cked senseless every week and loose a load of young fans because of it BUT hands up who doesn't want us to be the first ever team in English football history to achieve triple consecutive promotions?

I feel our away form is more than a "blip" as there seems clearly an issue with the way we perform away compared to at the Mem, DC needs to address the away form quickly if we are to make the Play Offs this season. gasheads.proboards.com/thread/8904/It'll be interesting to see if our defence is made stronger, or weaker, by McChrystal's return on set pieces etc at Fleetwood. As if we could avoid defeat there we can say we've finally turned the corner. Lose though and the gaps back to 4pts plus they have a game in hand and superior goal difference.

I can't see how are defence could possibly be weaker with McChrystal back in after the shambolic defending we saw at Charlton! I agree that this game is going to be a yard stick of just where we are at present? Fleetwood are a tough side especially at home, stop the away rot and get something out of this game and we will be truly in the mix.

I think promotion this season would be too early. You only have to look at the idiots over the river who won this league at a canter then got beat week in week out in the championship. Would of course be a great achievement if we could do it but I'd be happy with a top half finish this season and a promotion assault next

I don't think going up would be a disaster.
Going up and spending money trying to compete in the championship would be a disaster. Not without the infrastructure.
Going up would:
- attract national and even international attention to the club - bring in a load more money (given we don't spend)
The big issue and potential disaster from a 3rd promotion is losing Clarke which I feel would be inevitable after 3 in a row. Established champ clubs would want him. Whether he would want it, not sure. I doubt he has lots of contacts at that end of the game.
What I want to see is a push for promotion and all players guaranteed contracts and the club being straightforward with supporters - survival is all we can hope for whilst at the Mem.

Steve Hamer told me that we would get £6 million Share of TV money if we get promoted against the less than £1 million for being in league 1

I notice you mention our last 6 home games, yet only mention our last 4 away games. Got to be some balance surely? The last 2 away games that you "missed" off the list was a win & a draw.

He looked a bit of a shambles on that game.

Don't think we have a chance of play offs unless we get a keeper and 2 quality defenders - our away form is now a big worry - losing to teams at the bottom as well as higher up.
As someone else mentioned we also have to play Scunnie, Sheff and Brad at home.
We know our front 6 can get us into the top 6 but you also need to keep the goals out when you face the inevitable pressure away. So if Darrell lands some good signings very soon, I'll be very optimistic. If we have to wait till Jan 31 for players who are only going to be cover for ones already here then we'll probably have to aim for top half.
