I know this signing is well below people's expectations but expectations of supporters do not mean a lot to DC because he's the manager not the supporters and he calls the shots. It was DC that raised everyone's expectations!! Didn't he say he was after a goalkeeper from a championship club or was there something I missed ?

Looks like we've signed a back-up 'keeper for Puddy....they call it competition for places! I now expect Puddy to start v Walsall, with the new lad 'breathing down his neck'.

I do get the frustration - honestly I do. But there are some on here who have clearly made their mind up entirely.
I get the trepidation - but this lad may be absolutely unbelievable for all we know!
Yes we've had some shoddy goalkeepers on loan in recent times, but in the past we've had some good ones too.
So yes - I totally get the frustration and, on the face of it, it is a little bit of an anticlimax.
BUT
None of us have seen him play; he may just turn out to be the best signing of DCs managerial career.
So let's just try and reserve the negativity until he's at least stood between the posts and cross our fingers until then.
Good luck Joe!

It was DC that raised everyone's expectations!! That's the issue if DC had said after the Shrewsbury game he hasn't got a pot to p1ss in and not to expect much in January we would have moaned about it but not built up our expectations we were going to get some experienced players in. Perhaps DC knew the awful truth but was trying to put some pressure on Wael to give him a bigger budget but who knows the true picture.

If Puddy starts against Walsall then D.C. deserves every piece of criticism thrown at him. Unlikely the Radio Bristol post match interviewer will have the courage to come out and ask why but his false loyalty to a decent bloke who is simply not up to the job is Gross mismanagement, and unfair to the individual and to those connected with the club on all levels.

It was DC that raised everyone's expectations!! Probably better if DC goes back to not giving any info away. Aye. He's not the only one who need to stop saying so much!! I promised myself I wouldn't get sucked back in....!!

Yep our tea lady spotted Nigel Martyn playing non league in Cornwall and that turned out alright.

Everyone is entitled and all that, but there is a lack of class here. Any chance of welcoming the bloke in? It's not his fault he is here is it!!

We should have kept hold of Chapman. Good luck to the new lad, he's young and will be raw. He may surprise us but I think he's been signed as cover for Mildy anyway. I'm not judging the player but all the well wishers, are you honestly saying you all did a little fist pump when we announced the LOAN signing of a kid? It's not about the player himself, it's the message it sends out. We are desperate for a decent keeper. Not a world beater but a decent pro with a few years behind him. We keep being told WAQ has cash and will back DC. We keep being told DC knows what's wrong and will fix it. How many of you really think this sends out the right message that we are hoping to establish ourselves as a top L1 side or that it will solve our problems? Personally I find it a very strange signing. I will fully support the lad and I will not judge or get on his back, but I would be lying if I said I was filled with enthusiasm for our business so far this window. Hugo, this is one of the worst poems I have ever read; doesn't rhyme, doesn't scan - but I like the sentiments, had me in tears.

Ha ha!! Now can we have a left back, right back, two centre halfs, an entire midfield and two million pound strikers. Cheers 👍

He's already spent month each at Morecambe and Stevenage but never even managed one league appearance at either club, meanwhile Roos played 20 games for Wimbledon last season, you do have to question whether Lumley is up to league 2 standard buy I guess he has to start somewhere.

I genuinely feel for the lad. We were promised players that would improve the squad and that would help is kick on. It's not his fault that our expectations were raised by the club. I don't expect us to go out an spend a fortune but I also don't expect us to say one thing and do the exact opposite. It's bloody frustrating and has created an unnecessary situation that this poor youngster now finds himself in. I'm normally pretty quick to knock moaners and to defend DC and our players here but this is incongruous with the stuff DC has been saying recently about the players he needs/wants. To be fair, and I think we all need to remember this, we had a very immediate problem. Last Saturday we had a GK on the bench that had never before (as far as I know) been in a matchday squad. I believe we had to solve that problem quickly and that could well be Joe's role here. There is still plenty of window left, so the solution to our 1st choice GK problem may yet still happen. PS. Forgot to say earlier - your original post was top drawer - nice work!

I wonder if that cheeky scamp Darrel Clarke is teasing us....
Announce young Joe today and tomorrow we will unveil another more experienced keeper who will be the No1 for the next few years.
Can hear the interview now ...." Listen... you should have heard the moaning, people think they know best, apparently over the last two years Keith Brookman tells me we have done this or that better than everyone"
Perhaps he is playing a joke on us ... the teasing lovable rogue!

Holloway wouldn't stitch us up, so he must be a decent keeper. When has Holloway done us any favours since he left? He does not work for us and like any professional will do what's right for the club that pays his wages.

Good idea to get someone in on loan ,"try before you buy". Could be a keeper. Good luck Joe, make us proud.

He does not work for us and like any professional will do what's right for the club that pays his wages. Of course Holloway "will do whats' right for his club". Having said that it would surely not make any difference what Holloway said about the young keeper. I would certainly hope our club is fully aware about what the lad can or cannot do from other sources other than the manager of QPR. Having seen posts' in the past on here about Holloway "not doing us any favours", it was only a matter of time as far as I am concerned that an old chestnut like that came up.

Well, the forum is living up to one part or its name - the Gas bit.
what a sh** storm over a sodding goalie.
He's a Gashead now and he'll do his best and will be welcomed with open arms.
Some truly bizarre logic on here at times.
- Goalies with limited experience must be poor - so how did the greats ever get started? - If you go on loan and don't play you must be poor - oh, come on people, show some intelligence - using that logic Andy Bond is amazing because he played, whereas Oli BcBurnie must be gash because he hardly got a look-in with us - Young goalies are not what we need (oh, but BTW we don't want old ones either...) - We must get a permanent number 1 now in the January 'joke shop' window - Most teams have 3 keepers so who says Joe is definitely the last keeper coming into the building? he might well be, but with Mildy out and Puddy injury prone, Joe might not be the last in
BTW - the lad may not have played many games but he had a game in the Championship at Blackburn in front of 12,000, and an FA Cup game at Notts Forest in front of 14,000, when QPR were rubbish (still are)
It might not be much but at least he's been in front of big crowds / big grounds and felt that pressure, so shouldn't be too nervy.

If the long term No.1 DC was looking for wasn't available then a stop gap was a better option than wasting money on someone who was way down his list of targets.
That said, I'm a little surprised we've ended up with someone who has pretty much no league experience whatsoever. You have to wonder why he never appeared for 2 of the clubs he went to on loan and why no other clubs have given him the chance to play a few games. Surprising lack of appearances for someone aged 22.
Also, given our defensive frailties I would have prefered an older more experinced keeper.
I'm probably wrong but reading DC's comments about Lumley being 'competition and cover' I do wonder whether he still hopes to bring in another keeper before the end of the month.
Anyway, good luck to Joe. I hope both he and us benefit from his stay with the Gas.

f**k me there's been some absolute bollocks posted on here.Lee Nichols played a major part in getting Northampton to the league2 play-off final and Kelle Roos played a similar role in Wimbledons promotion last season. The supporters loved them and would have been delighted to retain them.We signed up these keepers because they were proven to be bloody good at that time and I can't recall anyone on here protesting how sh** they were, can anybody else?Yes,they both ended up being Dam disasters with us but hindsight is a magical thing for the football fan and dulls the memories of the pre signing days.Maybe, just maybe,Joe Lumley without a gold star from earlier loans will prove to be the best of the lot, then go elsewhere next year and be sh** for his new team! Football is great innit.
