I would say we are a couple of seasons behind S.U. In terms of squad development. We are several decades behind them with regard to stadium and infrastructure development. Hopefully the Al Quadis are attending to the latter but will necessarily require about 3 years to implement.
With reference to the squad I think DC's approach is correct. He is shopping for the future, the centre backs he has signed will hopefully be developed and if he proves himself in the loan period I think DC will try and sign Sweeney next summer.
I reckon he could do worse than make a cheeky bid for the Swindon keeper, and their left back didn't look too shabby either. Apparently they're a selling club, so you never know.

Some of his saves were luck more than judgement I'd rather have a keeper who's save's were "more luck more than judgement" than a Puddy or Roos.....

If we paid £400k like Swindon did for their keeper I'd be so disappointed.
Got very lucky at times and his distribution was far from good.

The Swindon fans were giving him some stick at the HT whistle - I thought it was unfair as he'd kept them in the game - but I guess that tells you all you need to know about how good he really is.

I dont think there is any chance we will sign sweeney stoke only signed him last august for £250,000.

Stranger things have happened in Football, I agree it is unlikely at this stage although it really depends what other centre-halfd Stoke have got in their squad and their eyes on.

Given we've been top 10 all season why wouldn't any fan not want us to now challenge for a top 6 spot, why bother watching football if it's not to watch your club win/achieve the best they can. In my opinion we are not set for a top 6 spot and our gd/points/squad backs that up atm. I believe in learning to walk before you run and am pretty satisfied with our progress of 3 years. This league is the natural consolidation level for us I think, as the champ is for wba/Sunderland. We are a year into new ownership, have a squad that is wearing medals from the conference and facilities that wouldn't look posh in conference south. I am hoping we see a purposeful, organised assault on the next level when we are prepared. Rather like Brighton and Swansea yet unlike Yeovil. Topper is spot on with this. Still, let me know when we've learnt to walk 79, and I might start coming to watch them again. Thankfully, your opinion is way off. If it's there to win, then you go for it. You can't pick and choose when you want promotion. We could have stabilised last season which looked to be the choice with the Stevenage team selection, but we were still in it and went for it. Perhaps we should get relegated and look to re stabilise.

Anyone on this thread suggesting we buy the Swindon keeper either wasn't at the game, or spent all the time checking FB. One decent save in the first half, the rest of the time he was ensuring he got the vote for the 'worst keeper display at the Mem 2016/17'!

Yet before the game they were saying he's their only asset. Tbf he was made to look sh** by their tosser of a manager and his players from the back tactics.

You cant base anything on 1 game.
I posted a week or so ago that we could do a lot worse than signing Swindon's keeper. I still stand by that as only he and No11 Brophy came out of Saturdays game with any credit imo. However I think he will go to a Championship club at least.

Well, based on that one game, he looked like he had his shoelaces tied together whenever he received the ball. I thought he was trying to get the ball onto his stronger foot all the time, until I realised that he didn't have one.

If fans think we are in a position as a club to rub shoulders with Villa, Newcastle, Reading or even the teds, week in week out, then I really am at a difference of opinion. The dead wood is being cleared. We haven't shown any real evidence of spending power even at this level. Our ground is a fecking dump. If you are saying you don't even go to watch? What's your point, since this is the best we've had for a decade!

That's fair comment, I thought he was one of their better players and from memory only conceded 1?.
Hopefully any player DC signs he will have more than 1 report on though.
