They have signed hanson from bradford which must have cost quite a bit and o"shea from chesterfield a winger with a good goal record on loan,2 experienced proven performers at this level. So why are we not getting players like this into our club?

It's like comparing Bournemouth with Man Utd.

Yes they are really going for it. Lost 0 - 2 at home to fleetwood last night. The blades were blunted by a smelly old bit of cod, our result against them on Saturday doesn't look so bad now?

They have an average £20k gate each week which allows them a much larger budget than ourselves.
In another thread I saw a £6m a year budget banded around. Frankly we can't spend that kind of money without bumping into FFP.
Evolution not revolution.

Spending money and making signings doesn't mean you are going for it or going to be successful. There's proof across the river.
Also it is unfair to compare Sheff Utds activities with ours. We are in completely different transition periods and all of the ingredients are different.
Tbf, this is a silly thread and the OP probably knows that.

Better gates. But mainly because they are first.
If we were in there posistion I would expect that we would go a little more.

They are a much bigger club, with a real burning ambition to get promoted with people who want to invest in the team. As DC says we are being run on a bottom 8 budget. Our ambition is to simply stay in Div 1, that is why BRFC only bring in kids from other teams reserve sides on loans. Its just what we are. UTG

Maybe we should go all out for Championship promotion like Leyton Orient did? That worked out well. Massive wage bill in a relegation dogfight to stay in the league.
Do you seriously think James Hanson would come to us from Bradford for anything other than a fat pay cheque?

I will only attack the post and not the poster - what a load of old bollux Nearly every post from this chap is "Why, What if"; simples my friend we are the Gas and don't go beserk at every opportunity. As GH79 says, look at the other lot from sarf of the river. A glowing example of what throwing money at a team can produce.

We are in transition, with the need to re-build a squad that has gained promotion 2 years in a row. We we also have a manager who has never operated at this level before and he needs a season to assess the league and what is required to be a success. Sheff. U are in a totally different situation to us and are massively under achieving by being in league 1. Also, I wouldn't put too much credence on the old "bottom 8" budget claim. A bit of kidology methinks to discourage greedy agents from demamding inflated salaries and fees for their players, because they think momey is no object with our Middle Eastern owners. Not once have we heard Wael mouth off about money and DC is following his lead.

If anything defines the difference in philosophy between the two bristol clubs it's this.
To be fair to 82, they do have a tradition of wanting to play attractive football. In aiming for this countless millions have been paid.
What I always liked about the gas is that we were about battling, backs to the wall guts and commitment. Not necessarily pretty but I always felt that we want committed, hard working players before fancy dans.
So, I couldn't care too much about transfer fees. Far better to have Stuart sinclairs than Gary Kenneths.

We will never get near Sheffield Utd because we have about max out of revenue streams with the mem being pretty full most home games and lack of other streams coming on line....
Thats why we need a new Stadium with all its facilities to put us near Sheffield
We could have a LONG wait for that to happen

Burton & Bournemouth didn't have new/big stadium before getting promoted and I doubt Rotherham's as a bigger capacity? What happens if Wael can't do a deal with the UWE by August, do we just tread water in Div 1 for 5 or more years whilst we come up with a Plan B, if we do, will DC be happy to stay around?
I still don't get where all this FFP talk suddenly come from as attendances are higher than we could have expected, so why are we suddenly worried about maxing out salaries wise when DC was only talking about bringing in experienced players only last month? Was TW back doing the accounts(!) or have we lost some funding, it's all baffling how DC's suddenly seemingly happy to accept a mid table finish.
