How on earth can a "small" club like Exeter hold out for huge fees on their players yet we can't? DC Explained that very well in his interview yesterday - release clauses etc

How Higgs must have wished he had come up with a line like evolution not revolution. It's an excuse to do and spend nothing whilst giving the impression you're building the club from the bottom up! Inspired. The debt remains we just owe Dwayne Sports instead, there is no new stadium, we don't have a training ground and we have bought no new players of any worth since they took over. I hoped and believed that Rovers would move on from Ragbag Rovers after the takeover, but a year on I haven't seen any evidence yet, except the new scoreboard of course! #evolution not revolution This must be a joke or a WUM, absolutely must be! Since the al-Qadis have bought the club nothing has changed, only from a forum point of view it seems

Outside bars around the ground Free face painting for kids Wonga loan gone Training ground Renegotiating a terrible deal with UWE (ongoing) Not losing any players in any window 2 promotions Refurb of South Stand Improved positive media coverage Retention of successful manager Better coaching staff I'm sure there is more... Other than that you mean?

How on earth can a "small" club like Exeter hold out for huge fees on their players yet we can't? Have you been on the moon for the last week? Please select one of the following options: 1. You top goal scorer leaves for nothing in the summer ...or 2. You top scorer leaves for 300K in January having scored 19 goals in the first half of the season. Now if go back further, then the wider issue is that MT's contract actually ran out.......but of course as we all know, for the past 5/6 years we have suffered heavily offering long contracts, (Blizzard, Kenneth anyone?) and many on here were adamant that we should no longer offer out such contracts...which is the successful route we have gone down, leaving a squad full of players with the right attitude etc. With regards to MT, promotion from the Conference was the opportunity to have extended his contract to avoid what has happened, but of course, at this point he still had many doubters on here, and I believe the club was quite right in not breaking their new policy of keeping players hungry on shorter contracts. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I would suggest given we have had B2B promotions are new approach is working overall as evidenced by our position in the table compared to Exeter!

Agree Socrates but I am puzzled about Bolton. Aren't they meant to be something like £150m in debt? They are buying a lot of players and although I obviously don't know the contract terms, they might be on peanuts but with their debts I'm surprised they are doing so much business. Im glad we have meltdown about not spending money rather than spending money we might not have. I think that's good business but I know many won't agree with me. UTG! Most of Bolton's debt was written off by their previous owner Eddie Davies. Although the club are losing over 800k pm & have a transfer embargo in place, think they have only brought in a loanee & free agent as far as I am aware. They are also under watch or something by the League. Think they have issue with their council re their rates, and although they were taken over last year, the main shareholder is in dispute with the company who run the hotel & there is a feud with Dean Holdsworth & Sports Shield that could go to court, they desperately need investment. If they don't go up this season, they have about 16 players out of contract & will find it difficult to survive IMO. Much happier doing it the way we are and when you look at what was inherited here it was nowhere near as bad as at Bolton - excellent example of high paid players not up to the league they are in, or not making the effort for the team and also have long contracts - I have heard that somewhere before! To be honest I could care less about Bolton if they were well run then looking at the size of that club they wouldn't be in league 1 would they ? The other day someone said why can't we be like sheff Utd ? What a big club that's massively underachieving and should be at least one division higher than they are? That was us 3 years ago why would we want to be like that again ?

I was not really getting at us but more the case that How can Exeter hold out for big fees when they are run by Supporters with very limited income. I would have thought that they would be struggling to hold on to any players at all.

I guess our financial struggles under NH meant we couldn't risk offering MT a better contract following our promotion, or DC simply didn't think he warranted one, by the time we realised we should offer one it was too late.
Then again MT, or his agent, stitched us up with the low release clause.
Have we now bought the training ground as that seems the impression form posts on this thread etc?
