Why do some fans get on Ellis back there just waiting for him to make a mistake if you're not happy with him keep it to yourself.

I've been on and off the fence about Ellis for a long time. He frustrates me. But yesterday he reminded me of what's good about him. Other than Bodin, very few players are capable of just that little bit of magic that can open a game up. Sure, he was quiet during the game, as were the whole team but he does have something special. His tracking back and defensive work, particularly after his goal was superb. I think it would be a mistake to let him leave. Ellis ran to Marcus Stewart to celebrate his goal, and Stewie spoke very well of him in the after match interview. He was certainly a different player for the last 15 mins or so, amazing how a goal can lift the confidence. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be with us next season. I also Noticed DC only gave him a thumbs up signal when he ran over....... no hug or group hug from him.... Must have been thinking about his telephone interview with Birmingham City's board post game... is that why MS did the radio thing after the game

I'm guessing that Marcus has been investing a lot of time in Ellis, I thought that DC sort of joined the back of the group hug, but with my eyesight it might have been Yatesy!

Marcus definitely seems to have belief in Ellis. His interview yesterday and at the Weston meeting tells me that. He believes Ellis is a confidence player who needs the fans behind him.

Hes not good enough at this moment in his career to get in a league 1 promotion side that much i agree with. But unless we spend some serious money he wont need to be imo. So in your own words Ellis is an above average league one striker who gives most centre halfs a hard time but is not good enough at this stage of his career to get in a league one promotion seeking team. Make your mind up. Its quite clear what i said. We will need better than "above average" strikers if we want to get promoted but to me he hasnt looked out of place in the division and would get in most teams.

As I was leaving the ground though I heard a fan moan to his mate that Ellis hadn't run to the fans to celebrate.

It won't be important at all. Aye. The goal difference can't make any difference as Southend are miles ahead on that score and for us to finish level on points with Millwall we would have to draw next week and Millwall lose. Even then, with those extra 2 goals not conceded we would have to beat Millwall 9-0 (have been corrected on this - actually would only need to be 5-0, but still.....) in the last game Feasibly the point could make a difference in catching Southend but it's still a massive long shot and it's most likely it won't even go to the last day. Had we won that Gills game, though, we would be right there now, level on points with Southend, ahead of Rochdale and where we need to be with Millwall. Going for the win was obviously a gamble worth taking and any manager worth his salt would have done the same thing. Them's the breaks. Faint heart never won fair maiden. Remember when we dropped out the football league. Those last few games for all the bottom teams contained 876 different permutations , of which only one would send us down. Everything had to align perfectly, it did and we plummeted through the trap door. The football gods have our plums gripped in their icy talons ready to apply the final crush, twist and rip. But you just never know with football, eh. Hope is not lost.

Think I need binoculars instead of specs!

It's no surprise Ellis had lots in the tank for the last 15, he spent more time either stood still or sat on the floor than he did getting in to attacking positions for the first 75 minutes.
Fair play though he took the goal incredibly well and defended superbly after scoring.

Those last 15 minutes show what a confidence player he is. Completely different from the proceeding 75 minutes.
At only 23 you could argue mental toughness can be coached into him and maybe we will see the Ellis of the last 15 minutes more regularly?
I'm still on the fence with him tbh

I'm still on the fence with him tbh Unfortunately we need him to play for more than 15 mins per game though unless he comes from the bench of course. I like Ellis, I'm not sure what it is with him we all know the ability is there Northampton was a prime example but it's all a bit to hit and miss with him, is it attitude I'm not sure? We have been saying for years now that he needs to step up but each year it's just glimpses. Is he out of contract in the summer? If so it's a tough one for DC.

Today's match was a dull affair and ok Harrison scored he was awful until then...Marcus Stewart didn't fill me with hope after the game with his interview by saying it doesn't matter how he plays as he scores a goal as in my eyes he's not our answer and even as a squad player, With James and Harrison upfront either can't do any link play or hold it up...James is on the floor all the time and Harrison's first touch isn't good enough... We missed leads and Ollie today. We deserved the win but not a great performance but considering We played Friday and with a less effective team selected a great 3 points... We need to offload Harrison/James/Moore/mansell and hopefully buy lumley(not looking good though as qpr first keeper is wanted off a lot of teams so I can see him going back) or buy a proven keeper And bring in another left footed centre back better than Hartley and as good as sweeney( who will be playing championship football next season) and a left winger and 2 proven strikers but on a tight budget it could end up being another mix season. Let's hope the board and dc can do some good business over the summer to keep the momentum going..UTG Strange how the manager and assistant manager the coaching staff and players rate Harrison but the cognoscenti on here know better, thank god you are on the terraces and not in the dugout

I was just commenting on the fact that he can't even celebrate with Yates and his teammates without someone finding a negative in that.

Ellis has been with us long enough for fans to give an opinion, don't you think? Meanwhile, to those who think we need to spend big money... How much have we spent to go from the conference to the top half of LG1? If Taylor's release clause was double we might have scored an extra 6/7 goals by now and be in the top 7!
