That was my point if Burn isn't good to dislodge this season's two CB's, when we're "only" going to finish just inside the top 10, is he going to be good enough for a team which is, hopefully, aiming for a top 6 finish, he didn't look particularly strong at Coventry although at least we'd kept a clean sheet before he went off injured. Our defence in the second half of the season has been good enough for a top 6 finish though. Since the first game Sweeney and Lumley both played, we have conceded 16 goals in 17 games which is certainly good enough. It's our defence in the first half of the season and our lack of attacking threat in the second half that has cost us a top 6 finish unfortunately.

Sean Maguire Cork city in Ireland, leading striker in Irish football, wouldnt break the bank, a lot of interest from England recently, preston seem interested, would be a great signing.. Yes, certainly well worth looking at but he's under contract so would involve a fee.

John Terry at the Gas what a horrible thought, particular with his Mum and Dad coming down to regularly watch. Would really help us create a nice family atmosphere.

how we approach the transfer market depends entirely on what the current owners see as worthwhile investment.... sadly i wouldn't blame them not to put a penny more into the pot than is necessary to hold our league 1 status at the moment....

There's £300k from the snake and a £300k windfall from the Chelsea game - if DC has this extra at his disposal for wages or transfers that would seem reasonable to me.

That would be a very dangerous game, if we start off badly and don't recover we only have January to put it right.

'only' in the top 10 forgets that Sweeney and Lumley weren't here in the first half of the season and you expect Burn to dislodge the ever present captain and Sweeney who looks far too good for this level who we don't really have a chance of signing.
Burn hasn't had much chance to impress, but I am sure he will going forward

Then again you can't overlook there's been some shocking defensive away performances recently, Bury, Gillingham, Peterborough but still neither Burn nor Partington have been able to get into the team on a regular basis. As far as the £300K from the Chelsea game is that stuck in a bank gathering interest, or gone towards paying for DC's January signings?

Loanees ,Clarke-Salter,Lummers and Sweeners have upped our standard from some of the no hopers we used to borrow so we must ensure our future loans are of similar quality. The other Chelsea loanee didn't really measure up and Boeteng blew hot and cold. Essential we continue to aim higher but ideally would be great if we saw all three again.Think all three have not only benefited from being here but really enjoyed their time with us. P.S. Hope Milders gets a few minutes Sunday.

To be honest the game was destined for 0-0 until Harris and Brown couldn't decided who was at centre back and the confusion let their bloke in.

Partington played a big part in the ultra defensive tactics at Wimbledon and looked decent imo.

I prefer early signings as I think it just gives them more time to play together and develop an understanding of one another over a longer period. No idea how it works in real life, trying to get the players you want though. You seem to have wandered in from mumsnet.

So not sure about that although I think we need better in midfield to keep the ball better and help the defence out when out of possession.

I don't think Sweeney played at Walsall didn't he sign a day too late, I guess that answers the question on the Sweeney thread about it being Lumley who's helped Locks, as he had a shocker at Walsall!

The Walsall game was before Sweeney's debut. 16 goals in 17 games is an average of 0.94 goals per game which is certainly good enough for top 6. In fact if we'd have had that record all season we'd have conceded 42 goals in our 45 league games, which would be the joint second best record in the league. We've also kept 8 clean sheets in that time. UTG!
