He's also a very good and successful coach, which is probably more suited to his skills.Plenty of our fans would have spit their coffee out if you had suggested DC was a good manager after his first 12 games here. Discounting his achievements here, as so many strangely and disrespectfully do, is totally unfair.
I did say on my original post that he is a good post, just a poor manager imo.
One decent season with us doesn't make him a good manager, Buckle had a decent season with Torquay on a shoe-string budget.
We can agree to disagree about his value as a manager.
The one season wonder who guided us to promotion and an FA Quarter Final in two consecutive seasons.

I'm glad we've left the puns behind and gone onto the more important stuff that we haven't talked about before. Good old PT, splitting supporters in half since 2004

I suppose we'll have the fans and legends charity match to talk about as well. That could take up a couple of days ...

Yes, we did, by making sure we got into the play offs thereby getting an 'extension' to the season!

Funny how people say anything to try take away Trollopes achievements here. I cant see anyone trying to take away his achievements here, just that he isn't a very good manager as was found out when Lennie left and when he tried again at Cardiff.

Looks like no consensus on Trollop but general agreement that it's unlikely DC would want to go to Wigan and the bookies agree.

Were going to get this every time a half decent job comes up i suppose? Wigan totally failed to invest any money after their promotion back to the championship and started this season with a small squad while burton and barnsley who got promoted with them made signings within their limited budgets and will be in the championship next season because of that. I think dc can do better than wigan should he be tempted to leave.

And all through this success who was beside him in the dugout? None other than the redoubtable Lenny Lawrence. When he was fired PT floundered hopelessly and left us in a relegation position. You can trace our years of struggle back to PT's solo effort. He isn't a manager. Promotion, JPT Final and an FA Cup Quarters on the CV of someone who can't manage. Really? LL was undoubtedly an important member of the management team which was led by PT. Prior to PT's final season, the budget was cut drastically which clearly had a disastrous effect on the club. Clearly regrettable decisions were made in terms of recruitment but that doesn't take away his achievements. It was always my impression that the management team was very much led by LL. P T always seemed a step or two behind, basically doing as he was told. I always remember how LL said he advised the BOD to invest £50 k on David Pipe. I wondered at the time who was really running the show. PT returned to management with Cardiff after some years as Hughtons No2 at a couple of fairly large and successful clubs. He was also an International teams No 2. The sort of grounding that would surely equip him with the skills to be a successful No 1. Remind me how that ended will you?

Just a little useless info, when mike flynn was appointed newport manager with 12 games to go and the club looking doomed to relegation out of the league who did he appoint as his assistant manager? lennie lawrence
