The AGM is being held at the Mem on Thursday 2 November 7pm.
A good chance to ask questions and get a face to face reply.

Ethan Clarke is the clubs new marketing executive. (Not sure if the title means he is an exact replacement for David Bright or not - head of sales/ head of marketing) Anyway, I sent him a few suggestions and he has replied and advised that in fact some of the changes were already approved. Already that's an improvement on the previous incumbent! Obviously to come in and look to make changes mid season is not the best time, but he has already said he has looked at the matchday programme and a few quick win improvements are in place. He seems open to suggestions, so if anyone has any ideas which can help the club, please let him know. It is an important role, so let's hope he hits the ground running. Says he has been in the role since July 2022 on his LinkedIn? Maybe they have amalgamated the roles and he is now more hands on? Whatever, at least he seems more helpful and approachable.

I don't get the time to come on here all that often, so just thought I would use the opportunity to give this a plug.
There is a bit of negativity around, so always good to remember some of the better aspects of the club.
There's no doubt that Adam and the Community Trust are top drawer.
As we start to head towards the winter, a reminder that the Extra Time club offers a warm space and a few friendly faces, plus a cup of tea, for anyone in the over 65's that need some companionship and provides visits to places of interest, and exercises of the brain and the limbs.

I am not working in Bristol, so by the time I get back to Temple Meads, I might not get to the Mem till 7.15ish.
Anyone who has a bit of spare time to sell the programmes and 50/50s would be appreciated.
If you can, can you pop in and see Jamie in the SC match day shop.
Thanks

A great team performance and difficult to single out one player when several were contenders for MotM, but no doubt Marquis made a real difference.
Hunt and Thomas look a great combination but how many times in leagues games earlier this season have they broke the back line and looked up, only to see Brown and Collins on the edge of the box and therefore had to play the ball back instead.
He might not have got a touch to the cross which led to Hunt's goal but his presence was enough to create the space for Hunt and wrong foot the keeper.
How many people noticed the effort he put in for the third goal? He chased down the back line from near the West Stand right across to their left back, making him hurry his clearance and give us possession.
Earlier it was his clever run which took the defender out of position that allowed Evans to run at goal before skying his left foot chance and again when Collins had that run in the second half beating 2 or 3 defenders, it was Big John's run off the ball that created the space.
For his goal he won the ball in his own half and held it up, before laying off a simple ball, before making the run to get in the box.
His pressure means defenders don't get full clearances. I think yesterday was the most times in a game where we shot from outside the box, rather than having to collect the ball ten yards further back and having to go sideways.
Held the ball up well, harried the defence and fully deserved his goal.
I am not sure of the stats, but would expect there is a marked difference between Rovers goals scored this season when Marquis was on the pitch, compared to those when he is not.

The upcoming trips for the CT's over 65 club are;
This Tuesday is a Rock-'n'-roll special at the Little Stoke Social Club. Coach leaves the Mem 10.15ish.
On Tuesday 3 October there is a behind the scenes tour at the Old Vic. Coach leaves the Mem 10 o'clock.
Other forthcoming Tuesdays are at the Mem for tea and biscuits, games, quizzes, gently exercise and a natter.
Costs £3 a week or £5 if a trip.
As it starts getting colder, I think I am right this is a designated "warm space".
Maybe you have a lonely relative or neighbour who would like the company?
More details are on the CT website.

Went to Gay Meadow quite a lot over the years and we always seemed to do well - apart from Ian Stevens who always seemed to score against us and when a fit Frankie Bennett absolutely tore us apart. Re possession football, when Sergio Ommell scored an injury time winner, we were totally outplayed and it was probably only our second shot of the game. Never saw the man in the coracle though. True football folklore. Remember the Sergio goal. A group of us went including a staunch City fan who went as it was a new ground. With the atmosphere, the Weetabix and the last minute winner he absolutely loved it. He had a fair bit of mickey taking when he appeared on HTV news the next night jumping up on the fence to celebrate!

I suggested to Dave Bright the club should look at some sort of sponsorship, maybe with a Weetabix Trophy to the winners.
Could have raised a bit for the club coffers, even it was just matchball or programme sponsorship.
It's the sort of story that Colin Murray and Clem would have absolutely loved on the old FL highlights programme.

I remember one game when the stewards and police were searching fans and confiscating any weetabix they found - some even had crumpled biscuits in their pockets!
Unfortunately, they did not search the older ladies from Coach One, affectionately known as the knitting circle, who sat with Ralph and Jean (Half an Hour!) Shaw and they brought in loads of the stuff and the melee began.

There were a few times, admittedly not many, but when we have the ball in front of goal from 25 or 30 yards out, with defenders slow to close us down, why not at least have a pop?
How many goals did Boris or Penny etc get from rebounds from shots from Jocky, or Reecey?
The policy of recycling the ball wide may be valid if we can win the header from crosses, but I lost count of the number of times Thomas or Hunt got to the bye line, looked up and there was no one in the box, so we had to go backwards.
On the West stand there were constant shouts of "there is nobody there" when the ball was crossed in until JM came on.
Aarons two efforts came when he drifted inside. We have several analysts and backroom coaches but if we had a poll now of Aaron playing as a no 10 or out wide, I would expect it to be 90+ to say if he plays that's were he should be. We may not have a professional football upbringing but surely that many people can't be wrong?

Missed this at the time. Great news.
I heard the club are still paying him as he rehabilitates, but when he is well enough, it would be great to see him back at the Mem.
Maybe the FFSC could sponsor a no 16 a home and away shirt for this season - there is no player allocated with that number this season - and it can be raffled for a cancer charity at the end of the season?

For the first time for ages for a league match, there were lots of unsold programmes.
If you know someone who was disappointed to have arrived after the SC volunteers packed up, they can see Jamie in the match day shop on Tuesday or next home league game to complete their collection so far.
Not sure if it has been mentioned elsewhere but got to say it was a great speech by Lance and a fantastic reception by the crowd (home and away) to honour David Thomas.
Hairs on the back of the neck stuff when Goodnight Irene was sung.
Well done to all.

When the idea of switching the game to next Saturday was mentioned on here, after the Reading game got called off, I emailed Tom, as I thought it was a good suggestion.
He replied to say the club expected a few of our own players to be selected for international duty, so were sticking to the Tuesday date.
To me, that seems we are going to take this competition very seriously this season, so whilst some squad players need games, I would expect quite a few of the players who have started recently to be in the match day squad and a very strong starting 11 will be chosen.
That said, personally I hope there is a space for at least one of the younger players to get some game time.

With the additional time being played, suspensions and hopefully a cup run, we are going to need a big squad.
I can imagine some of the early pacesetters may run out of steam, as it will be a long season.
It is a work in progress, but we have a very good squad and you get a sense that with a bit more of a settled side and players learning to know how eachother plays,we will get more wins and move the ball quicker, get attuned to the forwards runs and play more attractive football.
A week on the training pitch will be a big help.
The last few promotion runs have been based on stepping up a few gears from February onwards - Trolls, DC and Joey. Fingers crossed!
