I'm loving this thread. Got the lot. Drama (queens), bad language and hardly any relevance to the original point. This is what we want during the long hot summer.

That is all very true. But what does it have to do with military expenditure and tactics in 2024? Who said it did? 🤣 Well you did, when you said: "I honestly weep and despair at how (all) politicians have managed to put this island nation in such a sh** awful position with a service ( and the other services to be honest) I was proud to serve for 22 years and during which time friends and colleagues of mine paid the ultimate sacrifice defending this country of ours across the world. Bless them all….and a plague on the houses of the spineless gutless politicians who have no idea what a sense of duty and comraderie is all about." It's difficult to have a debate about the value and future of the Royal Navy when it's punctuated by well meaning but possibly not relevant comments about how brave they were in the Second World War and other conflicts, which have little to do with the modern world. Next thing that might happen is someone accusing me of being insensitive and unpatriotic, which isn't true and is missing the point.

I've said before my Dad was 19 and a RN medic he was on Omaha first wave to triage casualties, would rarely speak about it ,however in 2012 him ,my Nephew and I were sat in the early hours on the terrace if the Sorrento Hilton and he was talking about it for really the first time,in an electric moment and elderly guy on the next table got up came over and with tears in his eyes asked in his strong American accent if he could shake my Dad's hand as his brother was on Omaha!!. Wow Dad being very modest didn't know what to do just grabbed his hand and mumbled a few words, for myself and his grandson it is one of our most treasured moments. Heroes don't speak, their deeds do!! And their deeds continue to speak to this day. Nuff said…..👍 That is all very true. But what does it have to do with military expenditure and tactics in 2024?

Do we really need a Royal Navy in any way comparable to the past?
Ships are slow, expensive, vulnerable and resource hungry.
Maybe in the past when manpower needed to be moved and the big guns trained on foreign shores and fleets.
But how much does this still happen? They'll be taking out destroyers with plane-launched drones soon.
I know the Navy is a source of great pride, and both my parents served in it, but times, tactics and technology change.

I feel your pain. Fancy being forced against your own will into your 32477th post by such an unnecessary question 🤣 Topper is a busy man and I shouldn't trouble him with tiresome questions when he's got so many people to disagree with.

It does, not sure "bitter" is appropriate, nor is a laughing matter, though. 😶 Incidentally, it's "you're". 😘 Oh Christ not another member of the grammar police. My humble apologies that I don't check what has been typed before posting. It's a shame that you don't check what has been promised before voting.

Aghast is 2024 yours is 2021 ……. If I’m reading things right? Aghast has not posted anything to back his claim that crime rates were higher under Boris! Yes I have, if you read the sources I chose, but can't be bothered to trade internet links because we'll both choose sources which attempt to back up what we say, and you can find anything you like on the internet.

I think Man City will need to win both. Which they probably will, but pressure gets to everyone and Spurs will be difficult since they still have a chance of Champions League qualification.

Francegas highlights London because it's a visible target even though overall serious crime in the capital is well below other cities like Bradford, Birmingham and Manchester.
You can't win with an analysis like this. Obviously major crime is committed in the biggest cities. Even though crime rates are lower under Khan than Johnson and Birmingham with a Tory Mayor exceeded that of London. It's not something that can be correlated with a Labour administration.
Not that I'm blaming the mayors. It's inner city life, deprivation and poverty that cause crime, not the mayor.

Only for the handful of "normal" fans without a mobile device, all ten of them. I'll introduce you to a few of them first home game. Based on people I know I'm pretty confident there will be several hundred in that position. Maybe not all at every game, but paying fans nevertheless.

It's got to go somewhere and some people will inevitably be unable to see it.
Maybe we can have seat-back OLED screens for everyone when the stadium redevelopment is done.
For now we, like every other club in the world with one screen, have to accept that some won't be able to see it.
Another area where the club just can't win. I don't mind criticising where they've been careless or incompetent, but this 'I won't be able to see the screen!' stuff is a bit much.

We have higher standards, they said. Funny how this was scaremongering at the time, another predicted consequence. "While Britain was in the EU, a national chemical and ecological survey of rivers was conducted annually. After Brexit, the WFD was transposed into English law. From 2016, the government decided to test water quality under WFD every three years rather than annually. This has now been delayed further; the government has said it does not intend to deliver a complete update until 2025, the latest permissible date under the new WFD." www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/may/09/englands-rivers-to-remain-in-poor-state-as-eu-laws-ignored-post-brexit-says-watchdog Absolutely shameful. This is NOT the sort of thing the gullible voted for when they ticked 'Leave', but it's the sort of thing that can now happen as a regulation free cost cutting benefit, and also the sort of thing many of us feared would start to happen. American food standards on the way soon no doubt unless it's halted. I have some but not certain faith in Keir Starmer stopping this deterioration in standards.

It's reasonable to charge for a physical card because it costs a lot more to provide them. Manufacturing, admin, handling, packing, postage.
What isn't reasonable is to introduce the charge after people have paid. It's clearly a decision taken recently or it would have been announced at the time renewals were offered.
This could all have been avoided if someone had planned in advance and told people about the £15 some months ago.
It's all a bit shabby and amateur, but I suppose we're used to that.

From someone who stands on the west terrace near the tunnel it isn't good for me, but hey ho,but as long as my fellow gasheads can see that's fine by me. Maybe we can put a concave mirror on top of the East Stand pointing towards the hospitality? As the sun beats down on the East stand it'll be like a sort of Death Star laser beam. 👍

Will always be a favourite of mine, loved how he came back to help us get back into the league. Never understood why GC was a bit odd about the exact number of appearances he had made - he deserved to celebrate it without any doubt being cast. Yes GC was a bit petty about that, refusing to acknowledge 500 appearances. Bit out of character really, so they obviously fell out about something or other. It was a shame and unnecessary.
