Would be a big loss for Argyle especially to another L1 side.

You've just got to be so grateful for the loyalty of DC. After winning back to back promotions with us, he could of easily left to triple his wages at either Leeds or Norwich, two massive clubs. He's not from the area, he's from Mansfield yet his attachment to the football club is second to none and he has stayed with us to finish the job that he has started, I've got a lot of respect for that. That kind of loyalty is rare in football these days as evidenced by Hurst jumping ship not once but twice to manage in a higher division. Hurst was on his way to Ipswich before the play off final - horrible way to treat a club who gave him his chance in L1. He won’t last 12 months there!

Indeed. I'm pro board but when they make statements that are then proven to be false and they give their own deadlines then fail to meet them, it's a little worrying. In fairness, this is no different from the previous Board. Personally feel the opposite, they are like chalk and cheese. I too am impatient for news and off field progress. However under Higgs all I could look forward to was more doom and gloom. There have been enough positives in the last two and a bit years for me to give them a bit longer to produce!

To shine: Bennett, Sercs, Upson, Lockyer, Broadbent ..... Nichols! Struggle: Gaffney, Craig, Sinclair, Mensah, Lines By struggle I obviously mean quality wise, not through lack of effort. Think Lines legs will go, and Craig’s already have. From what I’ve seen of Mensah I really haven’t been impressed - hope he can turn it around in pre-season. Gaffney and Sinclair try hard and you can tell they are great characters in the squad, but not L1 quality (Sincs community trust work is arguably worth keeping him for alone). Rather harsh on Lines and Craig who both made excellent contributions to our season - but then you obviously know best!

The consensus is that we a 2 or 3 players short of a play-off or promotion push. With that in mind, which manager that we could realistically employ would have managed us to a better finish than 13th? I think we have suffered the usual 2nd season syndrome, and as such it wasn't too traumatic and was managed very well by DC. Provided we don't lose any key players this window, and DC is allowed to bring in the 2 or 3 players needed, next season should be a belter. I will watch with interest how Plymouth, Portsmouth and the other 2nd season promotion teams fair this season. And as for Shrewsbury, I fear they may bomb. What at do others think? The good news is that we have signed a good midfielder. The bad news is still to come and the reason we have not signed other players just yet. DC stated that apart from the players he released that some other players under contract would likely leave. i.e. either pushed or poached. But who? Sercombe, Harrison or Lines poached or Gaffney and Nichols pushed. I think DC is waiting to sort out these issues before any new signings. Beginning to panic now??? only 6 weeks window left to sort it out. Wild guesswork!

Yeah, that would be terrible if we had another four years like the last four. I get that you don't warm to him. I don't share your opinion, but I understand it. What I can't understand though is the implied criticism of his record. It's a fact that he's gained two promotions. If that's not good enough, then is it not possible that you may be setting the bar a little bit high... His record of promotions is great no problem with that but my gripe is that he only has experience of lower league football and for us to move forward we need a more experienced manager. the inconsistency last season showed it just look at November and December and probably the last 8 or so games it all fell apart. I did did not think that I set the bar too high last season my bar was set at a top 10 finish and a positive goal difference something we should have been able to achieve , I did not ask for top 2 or even top 6 , under DC we are not ready for that Pretty difficult to please then, personally I would rather have DC than almost anyone else realistically within reach of our club. Keep on doing what you do Darrell. UTG

David Templeton & Ali Crawford have decided to move on from Hamilton Accies who are by some way the lowest payers in the SPL. They could both do well in L1. Gary Warren whilst now 32 has been told he can leave ICT - I know he would love to play for the Gas but time not now on his side.

Hope this doesn't give DC itchy feet. He's as ambitious as Hurst, they're similar in many ways. .....except perhaps one of the key issues - loyalty??

Why worry about Chapman when we have 2 decent L1 keepers on our books. Nothing special when here on loan.

Only worth getting anyone in who is better than what we have or has the potential to improve us.
Northampton signing 9 players is just bookers, thankfully we don’t need to go down that route.
I’m not an Otis Khan fan. Looks a bit lightweight to me & we already have Nichols in that mound. As for Tony Craig exceptionally experienced player who would no doubt add something to the squad.

Northampton pulling away from the bottom and really splashing the cash. I think the Van Veen signing could be an inspired bit of business. Some might say he isn't a great goalscorer, but he is certainly a scorer of great goals. He is quite versatile as he can play in a wider role or as a no. 10. A technically gifted player who will also create goals. Reliably told he doesn’t try too hard & Scunny quite happy to let him go for a small fee. As for Northampton 9 signings in window so far suggests they found that £10m that they “lost” whilst trying to build a new stand. Personally would much prefer DCs approach to getting the right man. I hope Northampton go back down!

Gregg Wylde [Plymouth - Morecambe] Loan - thoughts? Good signing for Morecambe. He has been shocking since he left Plymouth a couple of years ago:- Awful at Millwall hardly got a game. Awful at Northampton on loan, subbed after half an hour against us as not contributing! ...back to Argyle - awful. on to Morecambe.....last chance saloon!

Just seen Wael & DC at the Academy game - they are calling off the signing of Tony Craig because quite a few on this forum don’t think he is what we need, that’s despite in November/December everyone saying we needed an experienced organiser in defence & a defensive coach.

Would be an outstanding signing 400 games at mainly this level or above, 3 promotions from L1, I have been saying for ages that we needed an old head around on the pitch & in the dressing room & perhaps the answer to our defensive coach issues who knows!
Really hope this gets done!

Ollie Cook 20 yr old Southampton FC centre back. Played mainly for u23s, seems highly regarded. Could be a loan option, DC said he wanted another CH to back up Tom L Tom B, Sweeney & Mayo.

Yes - on today’s showing I would take Harrison & Gaffney over their two front men Taylor and Wyke who I thought did very little all game and didn’t work anywhere near as hard as our two lads!

Partington got turned inside out several times by the little winger today, but he isn't a fullback anyway. But will become one of our best players. Bola seems to have drifted somewhat. He's ok but his distribution can be poor. He also took ages to get back in position after attacking down the wing. Problems arise when two many are played out of position. Not to mention Lines who contributes nothing. But quite rightly Gaffney was taken off today. One of his poorest games today I felt. But the others really came to the fore today. Sercombe really is a class act. Had to laugh with Mensa. He went mental when the third goal went in. There will be no shortage of banter with him in the changing room. ....& there was me thinking Lines & Gaffney we’re excellent today.

Better than Sercombe?!? No chance. Ellis works hard but his output isn't good enough to put him in that category. Yes, better than Sercombe. Not sure he is better, they are both quite different & in their different ways contribute a lot to the team. Ellis is effort, energy, commitment & quite a bit of ability whereas with Sercs it’s that bit of extra quality in the top third especially as the game gets stretched. I wouldn’t want to risk my life on Sercs making a match saving tackle though!

Northampton aren't mucking about. Another signing. 3 goals from 83 appearances for Chesterfield in 3 seasons. None for Forest. Northampton really have uncovered a gem there ! Absolutely awful for a very poor MKD earlier this season - not one that got away!
