Politics? Freedom of speech? It would not take much observing Gary Lineker over the years to realise that the guy is a humanitarian. He cares for and speaks out for fellow human beings and has often been drawn into such issues when they cross boundaries into football. Take Ukraine? Take the stories of him giving a home to refugees? This is not about politics or freedom of speech first or foremost, although those issue have been drawn into the whole affair, first and foremost this is about one human being standing up and speaking out for the welfare of others. The day that care for fellow human beings is wrong is the day everyone should hang their heads in shame.Yes your last comment is spot on, and of course GL, as you say, is a humanitarian and he does speak out. And I quite like him as someone who does a good job. Watching him do his job shows the difference between someone doing his job well and someone doing a similar job. But…. And I think he has every right to tweet what he liked. But unfortunately when he added “30s Germany” to the tweet he crossed the line imo. Keep it as an unpleasant and nasty policy and he’d have been ok. The moment you liken our government to ‘30s Germany’, or other unpleasant terms ‘holocaust’ or ‘Nazi germany’ (which by implication he did) then you cross the line. And that’s the same as anyone. Introduce those terms and you take a perfectly acceptable view to an exaggerated pov. Imo, of course. No one in government in this country is like that and for the implication to be voiced is just wrong. Not only should the BBC, as it stands be impartial, it must be seen to be impartial. Too much hypocrisy floating about here. GL against our government policy yet happy to go to Qatar with their appalling human rights, Shearer happy to see Newcastle do well now with their Saudi supporters. I bet others could come up with other examples. The world has become a place full of hypocrisy and counter argument. Hey ho. UTG! To be fair he said the language used is like 30s Germany and if you look at the language used by our government regarding immigration and asylum seekers in particular it is very similar indeed. He was only telling the truth.

It is possible for some people to have empathy for people without their situation actually effecting them you know 🤣🤣 It certainly is - but in no way could I defend GL 🤔💙 Why what’s he done wrong in your opinion ?

Few dinosaurs on here at the moment 🥱 😂 I’m female, guess in this pc world I should be defending woman’s game - but I don’t ! If that makes me a dinosaur - so be it ! I think women commentating on men’s football is awful but it works when commentating on women’s football. Men should do the men’s and women should do the women’s. I’ve often wondered if that’s sexist or just my preference. Some women would probably find it sexist but I don’t really care.

He is one of a long list of champagne socialists none of the issues of open border immigration effects them. School places - private school. Health care private policy. Community - living in exlusive neighbourhood. NO Linekar is a p***k It is possible for some people to have empathy for people without their situation actually effecting them you know 🤣🤣

Great result , table looking good, much more solid defensively with belly back and Quansah and Bogarde have been good loan signings. It’s been a decent season other than two bad spells the first when all our defenders were injured the other when Belshaw was dropped but other than that our forms been play off form.

To me this issue is larger than Lineker or the nature of his views. You may agree or disagree with them that's beside the point. Sports journalists shouldn't get taken off air for expressing views critical of the government on their personal twitter accounts, period. We live in a Western democracy not China or North Korea. We rely on the BBC to be independent of government for impartial programming and when one presenter is taken off air for views critical towards the government and another is protected for views critical of the opposition, that independence is called into question. Agreed and I hope this snowballs in to a mountain of sh1t for the bastards because that’s what’s needed. General election next year and here’s hoping for more of the same the more people who speak out against the wrongs of our government and their right wing propaganda media outlets - yes I’m looking at you BBC the better. Well done Sir Gary.

If he’d said that he totally backed the Tories immigration policy and that he agreed that asylum seekers should be treated in this way do you think they’d have taken him off air for being impartial ? Well that's a hypothetical question,it also begs the question as to whether the BBC is truly independent or just the mouth piece of the government. If the former then my answer would yes,in the end all comes down to what his contractual obligations are and has he breached them. I have to try and retain some hope that the BBC is independent or might as well go in live in Russia😕 13 years of Tory government + Brexit = authoritarian state I’m afraid. I’m with Lineker on this and everyone who has backed him. It’s the “ I am Spartacus “ scenario needed to stop the above from happening. It might not work but at least Lineker can say he did his bit. Thatcher wanted the UK to be more like the USA. That included no state owned broadcaster. That's been carried on by the Tories ever since. A while back Murdoch was schmoozing Cameron, presumably to curtail the BBC. It's barely disguised that they'd close or cut it back radically. Lineker is an excuse to persue that agenda. Similar to Jonathan Ross, who popped up on ITV with no comment. I have to say though that the BBC don't help themselves. I've just Googled Ross Parker and Kriss Donald - two murders never reported by the mainstream BBC. Conspiracy theories everywhere,is it not more simple?. He signs a contract in which there are clauses curtailing his activity on Social Media,it was not signed under duress and he subsequently breaches his contract, what may I ask are the employer meant to do ?. I know that if I had public criticised Barclays,I would have been compelled to resign or be sacked. He had a clear decision to make and made it but with it comes consequences bearing in mind he has form here . I have no issue with what he said but he did it knowingly ,cannot be surprised by the outcome surely . If he’d said that he totally backed the Tories immigration policy and that he agreed that asylum seekers should be treated in this way do you think they’d have taken him off air for being impartial ?

I agree with Gary’s remarks but to be honest I don’t think he’s a good fit for the BBC as he’s basically working for one of the Tory party’s biggest media outlets. I think he’s a great presenter and I do enjoy match of the day but I can’t see him or the bbc backing down and I reckon he’ll end up leaving.

Whether or not he’s ready for championship football that he’s been involved in over half of our goals scored with 15 goals and 10 assists makes him hot property. There will be plenty of offers for him in the summer without a shadow of a doubt.

From a football point of view you’re probably right but I wouldn’t begrudge him a move if he was going to earn 3-4 times the money. Would that include if he moved to Ashton Gate ? No.

Maybe just maybe he won't leave, he signed a 3 year contract and we've been told he loves it here Depends whether a championship club would come in for him, we recently played Ipswich and Barnsley who are both in the promotion race he struggled against Ipswich and didn't really shine against Barnsley, so he may struggle against Championship teams. Both the snake and Clarke- Harris struggled in the Championship. I think he his better staying here and helping us to promotion. From a football point of view you’re probably right but I wouldn’t begrudge him a move if he was going to earn 3-4 times the money.

Reckon our only hope would be to ground share with Swindon Way too far to go. Their ground holds nearly 15,000 but we wouldn’t take as many there as we’re getting at the Mem now so would be pointless.

So having watched that Bellhaw reflex save where he pushed it over the bar he wasn’t exactly flapping , he was there in the middle of the goal where he should be arm raised to punch but couldn’t get through and a rovers player headed it away. I wouldn’t call that flapping, if you move position to punch or catch , miss and end up out of position that’s flapping Belly’s position doesn’t change ,because he couldn’t move no goalkeeper has the ability to pass through players , they’re not ghosts. Also what a save !

Weird how people can see things so differently. The calmness belly brought to the defence was everthinh balcombe wasn’t. And when our defence who were excellent today failed, he saved us. Everything balcombe wasn’t. In joeys defence. He has got belly back to his best. MoM Gibson, Balguard or Marquis tho. Personally I don’t think Belshaw has played any better or worse for being dropped and I didn’t expect him to either.

Barnsley’s crosses / corners were brilliant , right in to the danger zone and Belly and his defence struggled with them all afternoon but didn’t concede and got the job done. Clean sheet. 2 games back - 2 clean sheets. Look in the book my friend. Look In The Book. 2 clean sheets you are right but he so nearly cost us with his flapping. Sometimes you need a bit of luck and he certainly got that today. I personally think the return of Gibson is the major factor and Connelly is dropped as he has made huge errors all season and looks a shade of the player from last year just like Evans. All about opinions this game. Yeah you’re right it is all about opinions. In my opinion there are many reasons we’ve relied on the brilliance of Belshaw over the last 2 seasons , some of them are down to the gung ho tactical ways that we play at times and some are down to individual mistakes in defence and midfield and also at times down to injuries in key defensive areas without having adequate cover for those positions, but our keepers been brilliant 99% of the time. Without his player of the season performances last season we’d never have won promotion and if Barton had dropped him earlier in the season and not brought him back in we would be in a relegation scrap now m. Glad Barton’s worked out what the problems actually were, it’s frustrating because as fans the majority of us could see what our defensive frailties were this season and last.

I don’t get this Belshaw poor distribution thing at all. With the ball at his feet there isn’t a better goalkeeper in the division and consistently finds rovers players in difficult situations where most keepers at this level would either smash it out for a throw or not even come for it then find themselves in a 50/50 which would end up in a goal conceded half of the time. He’s a sweeper keeper who is an excellent shot stopper and had another fantastic game today. Belshaw was never the problem . The problems with our goals against were…. Coutts out of form Finley injured or out of form Rossiter injured Not replacing Taylor Gibson out injured a lot Playing too attacking when we should have seen games out with better game management. Starting games far too attacking particularly away and playing way too open with a high line without quick players at the back who could cover balls over the top/ through balls. All of these things contributed more to our poor goals against tally way more than Belshaws performances and that’s not just this season is it I mean we won promotion and he won player of the season last season when we were very open at the back and conceding loads of chances and that’s with Taylor and connelly forming a good partnership !! V Ipswich and Barnsley we set up how anyone in their right mind with a bit of tactical knowledge would do and we were fine and kept clean sheets. Belly was hung out to dry and I respect him even more than I did before because he’s bounced back and I don’t think he’s improved I think he’s the same old Belshaw but Barton’s realised it wasn’t Bekshaw that was the problem and sorted out the things that were the problem. At least he got there. I will pull you up with your Belshaw view as today i kept a close eye on his performance and I done this due to being very critical of our fans for there treatment of Balcombe which was out of order. Belshaw today kicked the ball straight into touch 4/5 times and punted it straight to there keeper twice. The save he made in the 1st half tipping over the bar was due to him coming twice and failing to get anywhere near a cross in a crowded box so caused the problem. Just after that he got very lucky flapping at a cross which lucky fell straight back to him. He made a good save one on one and everything he did in the 2nd half was routine and shots were straight at him. Yes he is a good sweeper keeper but he is nowhere near the top 10 keepers in the league. I love Belshaw and what he brings to the team enabling us to play higher up the pitch but he also has plenty of faults but noone gives him a hard time. If Balcombe had made those errors he would have got dog abuse from the Thatchers and I feel is no worse the Belshaw. Anyway that's just my opinion but so glad we seem to be gelling in the middle of the park and Bogarde is going to be some player who is impressing me the more he plays. Great team effort today and shows we can challenge any team in this league and give them a game (unless they are in the bottom 4) Barnsley’s crosses / corners were brilliant , right in to the danger zone and Belly and his defence struggled with them all afternoon but didn’t concede and got the job done. Clean sheet. 2 games back - 2 clean sheets. Look in the book my friend. Look In The Book.

Don’t ban him. You can’t ban somebody for being childish and irritating. Can you ? I find him and the responses from other posters to his ways quite entertaining. But mods do what you feel is right. UTG.
