We need Vitālijs Astafjevs! Sadly long since retired!
I see that Joe Ledley is available and lives within an hour of Bristol. In my view a poor man's Astafjevs but with player salary's as they are now way out of any League 1 clubs budget (especially ours). Pity really as I would see him as a great fit into our problematic midfield & a real solution to what we are missing. Joe Ledley if fit would be an excellent signing on paper, but like you say would represent a very high wage and therefore a very high risk if he wasn't guaranteed quality for us. We could do worse than to offer him a pay as you play type deal. I had not considered that. A really good idea!

I would agree with the original post, we are lacking in midfield - yes we won - but with a creative midfield player, we could be so much better. But a good win and we are doing well with what we have available. We need Vitālijs Astafjevs! Sadly long since retired!

I say one last chance tonight and if it's as crap as we think it's going to be we need to go and get Holloway Why oh why do want people want to go back to past? There's a reason he's been unemployed for 12months well past his best as a manager!

Just Back Home. Hard to watch. Attack is fine for league one. Defence is fine for league one but the midfield is I think the worst functioning unit I have ever seen in Rovers colours. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is fundamentally wrong. This has to go down to the Manager and what he is asking them to do. What happens before the transfer window closes will define the season. Do nothing and we will be relegated. The right Two experienced midfielders and a change of shape and we could be in the top six at the end of the season. Is experienced midfielders the answer? Our midfield had plenty of experience today.. And as for the right 2. I'm pretty sure no managers goes with the intention to sign the wrong 2. Last season's Midfield (without lines), last season's Problems!

Agree, and he says the investment is in place, so I am assuming price is agreed. There well may be a shareholder who doesn’t agree, but may have no choice if all the others have signed a contract on the proviso of agreed planning. Just feel he wouldn’t make this public unless he was sure of his facts. Although 2 years, if it gets the green light, is optimistic, unless it’s further down the line than we think. To be putting in planning, there must be some stadium design already, everyone could just be waiting for the green light of the permission to build and have bull dozers go in. Alistair Durden tweeting today that no offer has been accepted by stakeholder is bit conflicting. Never easy Rovers, it's about time our luck changed though. I think this backs up the version of events that got ad far as WAQ making a statement on Saturday. BCC advised in an informal chat with BRFC that the The Fruit market could be available. BRFC (Starnes) advised Dwayne Sports. Dwayne sports hesitated. Higgs heard this realised that every commercial property developer and his wife Would React. So he reacted before open bidding by putting an agreement/bid in place. What I don't know / understand is if higgs acted alone / with someone else (certainly not BRFC / DW).

When I was talking to Directors back in the summer they said they were looking for a site with close rail links as after a recent survey results showed that 80percent of fans travelled to matches by car and this was far to high, the club are looking at laying on buses for fans traveling to the mem. So this site fits in with their strategy. I believe Councillors recommended the site to the club, so when it comes to getting planning permission it should be easier to achieve. Although traveling by car to the ground will not be easy so the club are hoping most people will use public transport. Another advantage of this site is that it is not in a heavy residential area so hopefully fewer objections by nimbies. Sort of. Clarke's wood was compulsory purchased down to the van sales for the new school (1600 students) university island is 5000 student's. Totterdown Bridge is 7 tower blocks of residential (in breach but agreed by the council's planning policy) The idea and concept is to move the city centre to the rear of temple meads. This would make the 'new' stadium just off the city centre. Millennium Stadium style (not that size)

Very Doom and gloom tonight so I thought I would put a positive slant on things.
We only 3 points off the automatic promotion spots!

Lets all get greased up and have an ITKOff Who wants some? Quite a number of people have been talking about this openly for a while including on Gaschat. In the past a proper investigative journalist would have all the facts and figures detailed out but both the Post (Inparticular the post), BBC west and ITV west country don't have any journalists capable of using anything other than Cut and Paste.

2 years is very optimistic I must add considering nothing is public knowledge. In Fairness to WAQ I don't think he understands what he has been told. I think what the Professional team would have said was "2 years to get planning permission". Glad WAQ has now confirmed this.it has been an open secret for too long. The interesting bit if it's true that Higgs has actually bought the land and if is selling all of it or a percentage of it to Dwane Sports.

Enjoyed the game, thought we looked alright. Rodman and Upson in particular had good games IMO. Also pleasantly surprised by Bath, who played the ball around really nicely operating in a Wilder-esque 3-5-2 with overlapping CBs. That big lad Bower won everything in the air (not hard when Reilly only came up to his crotch) and looked like he could play too, astute signing from Cheltenham it seems. Bath City were Excellent on Wednesday. It will be interesting to see their results against Newport and Exeter in preseason. I would not be surprised if they beat one of them. I predict a very good season for them on that showing.

Like Bonham we only lost out on this signing because of Family home location.

I bet the PA system is dreading having to say his name on a match day "Jordy 'Dutch Boy' Van Shot Stopper". What exactly is difficult in the say about that?

Hare can play right or left back and little has played centre back before now so we are well covered at the back just need to sort the goalkeeper. I noticed Conor Washington has been released by Sheffield utd, scored for Northern Ireland recently, didn't do well in the Championship for Sheffield but got a few goals for QPR and had a good scoring record at this level over 30 goals in 90 games. I know GC was meant to have met up with the UTD manager maybe a player on his radar. This is a very good observation about Conor Washington. If it's not us I think he will end up playing in league 1 next season. Interesting to see if it's us or someone else!

Surprised and disappointed to see the amount of people on here who aren't renewing and choosing not to support the club. If it's for non footballing reasons it's understandable. However it looks like we'll be playing L1 football and ticket revenue remains our single biggest source of income. Clearly the link between supporter backing and our chances next season are obvious so let's hope the majority stay loyal and get behind the club. Renewed our two tickets when we got home yesterday. Unlike 'some' I actually think the season tickets are really good value, especially the Under 11's & junior tickets.

Three really tough games coming up - Donny (A), Luton (H), Coventry (A), would take two points from them if offered. After that we've got the "big three" games that are going to decide our fate: Bradford (H), Wimbledon (A), Rochdale (H). If we go into those three with 0 points from the above games, the pressure is really on the boys, so hoping we can get some points on the board before then. This. But....... Doncaster are on a terrible run. one win in eight & are for the taking tonight. They have big injury issues in the midfield.

Charlton have not lost in 7 games. They have to play 5 of the teams below us. That was a massive point against a good organised side. Others won't get points off them.

The start of this thread is unbelievable! Some of the comments any utterly amazing. It just shows people's prejudices andhow they prejudge player's. Currently I believe the biggest seller in the food outlets at the memorial stadium is Humble Pie. gaschat.co.uk/post/407378/threadGosh Topper that took some finding? Almost Stalker like? I standby my statement on the 24th July 2018. After watching Dom Telford for a whole season I think we missed out on a good player that would have added to our Squad, certainly over the first half of the 18/19 season. That is VERY different to the criticism of JCH before he had even arrived let alone kicked a ball that litters the start of this thread.
